Good Points: I love Ford Escorts. I myself own a 1974 MK1. I have upgraded from a 1100cc to a 1600cc cross flow gt - it is running very nicely and with a 3in straight-through sounds very grunty, haha.
Bad Points: The only bad thing or things I can say about Escorts or even for all older cars especially ones made 30 odd years back is that if you ding them or don't have parts it is very hard to find replacement panel and parts for them. Also no power steering!!
General comments: The MK1 shown in this photo is absolutely beautiful. I still have a long way to get to that stage with mine. I have already spent (Newzealand dollars)$7000 and I am about to spend another 4.

I owned aFord Escort Mk1 RS 2000 some years ago now, the car was white with blue decals, it was kitted out with minilites, 4 super oscars twin 40s and full competition exhaust. I swapped a capri for the car in Blackpool and had about 3 years of trouble free motoring! Until one day my gilfriend (now my wife) rolled the car and put it in a ditch! The Ford Escort Mk1 is the best Car I ever owned, its very much a classic drivers car and although it may not be as powerful as the RS versions it is still Very Fun to drive. Perfect beginner rally car and road car, teaches you how to drive sideways in total control.

I bought my first Escort mk 1 when I was 21, the car was a bit of a BOMBSHELL but with a bit of elbow grease and hard work it was as good as new. The car is quick and has excelent acceleration. The interior is superb and the car alongside the FORD CAPRI it is the best car I have ever had.

I've had 2 Ford Escort Mk 1 now and i've loved them both, great retro cars with loads of potential to modifiy. Easy to work on compared most and real fun to drive.
My last one has an injected pinto in and is a pleasure to drive, ok on fuel and really reliable!
I recommend not trying to use them as an everyday car especially if you do lots of miles as they can get a bit much unless its in perfect nick then your ok until it rains!

My Ford Escort Mk I is a well built car. She has a large engine bay (there is a lot of unused space) which alows for a larger engine to be installed if required. Her body is very strong and the pannel beating is easier. There are no computerised parts and no fuel injection, so she can be harder to drive, (compared to now-a-days cars) but she will not give problems that cannot be fixed. What a car the Ford Escort Mk I is! Nippy, top handling, fuel efficient (well, until I changed the engine!) and still the best shaped Escort that Ford ever made!
