Good Points: 1. value for money
2. useful features
3. good software bundle
4. easy to use
5. very good daylight photographs
6. useful and practical resolution options :0.78MP (for emailing and uploading to the web), 3.1MP for small prints and 5MP for bigger prints.
7. built in speaker is useful when reviewing videos / recorded voices
8. useful voice recording feature.
Bad Points: 1. Photographs taken in low light situations are poor.
2. Some of the camera settings is not saved. needs setting each time the camera is turned on. very disappointing "feature". For eg, the default ISO setting is AUTO with options for 100 and 200. The AUTO mode does not appear to work as photographs are always captured at 100 ISO even in low light conditions. Setting it to 200 is only for the current session. Turn off the camera and turn it on and this setting is forgotten. Similar problem with the flash. The default setting is no flash (which doesnt make sense as it should have been auto flash). Each time the camera is turned on, the first ritual should be to set it to Auto.
General comments: This Mustek MDC 5500Z Digital Camera is for an amateur more interested in point and shoot type of camera with minimal manual settings. For the low price one cannot expect too much and hence I have a few gripes that cannot be considered "bad points".
Gripes
1. very ordinary/cheap looks
2. flimsy cover for the USB/video out which does not inspire confidence.
3. lens cover should have been built into the camera. instead it is separate and cheap looking.
