We went to Clowns earlier this year as a group from work (approx 26) the service was perfect, the food was brilliant even though there was a lot of it and it was very good value for money. They even did us separate bills. We were so impressed we have booked our office Christmas lunch and we are all looking forward to it.- Read Guest's review (62 words)

We went to clowns Restaurant on Saturday and wont be going back. I last went there about 3 years ago and numerous times before then and it was excellent. Not any more - after a short wait, out table was ready, but the place was only half full. We sat down near the kitchen area and the table next to us was still covered with the previous guests meals, although they were long gone.
Service ws OK, but still had to wait about 10 mins for a drink. Food has gone downhill although we didn't have to ...- Read ozfest's review (158 words)

We went to Clown's Restaurant Saturday night for a meal since we were visiting old friends... what a disappointment! We used to live in Colchester a few years ago and this was our favourite haunt, we ate there every week but what a shock to see what was once a fantastic restaurant go down the pan so much. Our friends told us that it has been under new management for a few years but we feel that the old atmosphere, fantastic service and food has truly gone. There used to be queues down the str ...- Read Countryliving's review (270 words)

If you are hungry the portion sizes at Clown's Restaurant are great.
If you have a small appetite or somebody who doesn't too much on your plate you may struggle to eat everything.
The portion sizes are very American, the food was well cooked and the staff were friendly and accommodating. Well worth a visit.- Read SeaBee105's review (55 words)

The food was nice although there was a lot of it. The downside is that some of the starters and light bites seemed the same size as your average main meal. I feel that the portion sizes should have been explained to us, as one older child ordered two light bites which ended up being massive and a lot of the food was left over. I would suggest to anyone going to the restaurant, to ask about the portion sizes before ordering too much and ending up wasting food and in turn money- Read Guest's review (93 words)

The food was nice but there was a lot of it. The downside to this is that when ordering some starters or light bites they were the same size as your average main meal. When me and my family attended Clown's Restaurant, our 11 year old son ordered a starter that was fairly big, and then two light bites thinking that they would be quite small. They were actually fairly big and there therefore a lot of food was left. Obviously the waitress didnt point this out to us and was happy for him to order m ...- Read anon81's review (123 words)

At Clown's Restaurant they moved the furniture to allow access for our push chair and helped keep our children entertained until the food came, we will definitely be going back.
Very friendly staff, great for families with small children, brilliant food and generous portions.- Read RyanLewis's review (66 words)

I haven't been to Clown's Restaurant in years but I remember it being totally brilliant. I feel there is no atmosphere there anymore, the staff did not seem very happy and I was disappointed in the food quality. I'm not sure if this restaurant is under new management or something but it has lost its appeal with me. I think the decor is old now and does not seem to have been kept up with repairs... the toilets do not appear very nice. This used to be my favourite restaurant and I went every Satu ...- Read billybilly's review (176 words)

The old Clowns restaurant was of a good quality for a family meal. I can only think there must be a change in management or supplier as the quality of food had fallen. I definitely will not be eating here again.- Read jamescouchman's review (55 words)

This restaurant clearly is under new management and with it went the quality. The old Clowns was fantastic. The new Clowns is a different story. I went there for the first time in 2 years and found the tables to be filthy, the glasses caked in grease and the cutlery dirty.
Staff seem friendly enough and when I pointed out the problem with the utensils they provided clean stuff and blamed the dishwasher. Fine but it was so obvious they should have noticed. The menu appears to have changed as wel ...- Read Anomaly's review (114 words)
