I moved from MCE this year to Bennetts for my annual motorcycle insurance, mostly on the purported quality of service from Bennetts. MCE had annoyed me continually with their complete refusal to communicate by email and continual attempts to make customers call them on premium rate phone numbers. I received my certificate from Bennetts promptly enough, but no mention whatsoever of the EU breakdown cover which they took full payment for. I contacted them by email asking politely for details... Avoid Bennetts like the plague. My bike has been SORN for over a year awaiting the funds to do a bit of work to get her up and running, but due to moving house, kids etc. etc. it's sadly taken a back-seat for now. Last year, they automatically renewed my insurance and took the money from my account. In fairness I had moved a month before it was due and had not received the letter, so I just had to take that one on the chin. I was, however, prepared for it this year... Despite this, and due... The negativity and incompetence by Bennetts staff is of a scale seldom seen. I have been a customer with them for 12+years without making a single claim and when I weent to change my bike they got the details of the new machine wrong on the Ins Certificate. I went back to them to have it corrected and they cancelled the whole policy and could not offer me a policy to replace it.
My advice? Don't have anything to do with Bennetts unless you like hanging on the phone listening to 'sad' music.

It's theft, pure & simple, contact your card provider with all relevant info they'll sort it for you. In future always contact your card provider after the first payment has been made, by email, stating that they're not to pay that again unless directed to do so by yourself via phone/email.
Ask Bennetts for the contact details of "The Insurance Ombudsman" they cannot by law refuse to give it to you. Always time & date any contact with Bennetts & ask for a name of the person you are speaking to, they may not give you their surname, if they don't ask what position they hold within the company, this usually gets them to put you through to "The Team Leader"
This is a ploy you can use with most financial institutions, "The Ombudsman" must be related to "The Jabberwocky" seems to scare most into action.

After I reported an accident in 2010 (being reversed into by a truck when I was behind him on a hill!), but with no personal claims, my telephone was constantly badgered by a legal personal injury company based in Manchester. I phoned the part of Bennetts (Zenith I think it was called) that dealt with this side, and they said it was nothing to do with them. It took until the end of last year before the calls stopped. A possible explanation is that somewhere in Bennetts information is being sold on to these badgering companies. On a different note I would add, and I see from the internet copious complaints about the same thing, that Bennetts have adopted a devious cancellation process, whereby they sweetly tell you one thing over the phone, and then out of the blue send an unitemised bill for cancellation if you're paying by installments, ie, what it would cost to insure to the end of the insurance date four months hence. What was the point of cancelling to save insurance money? None.

To add to your words of warning about this company, after I reported an accident in 2010 (being reversed into by a truck when I was behind him on a hill!), but with no personal injury claim, my telephone was constantly badgered by a legal personal injury company based in Manchester. I phoned the part of Bennetts (?Zenith?) that dealt with this side, and they said it was nothing to do with them. It took until the end of last year before the calls stopped. A possible explanation is that somewhere in Bennetts information is being sold on to these badgering companies. What was the point of cancelling to save insurance money? None. I shall be making a complaint to the Ombudsman, because even if this body does nothing (they're within their legal rights blah blah) at least it adds to the volume of complaints and maybe like with PFI they'll start to do something about this company.

Hello I used Bennetts from 2006 to 2010 fully comprehensive, the price was the best each year, a crash writing my bike off in 2010 was paid in full in record time with excellent service but Bennetts linked me to minsterlaw to recover my NCD loss and personal injury claim. Do not use minsterlaw for any legal work as it has been over 1 year with no progress and for the last 2 weeks all of my emails have been ignored. I have been informed that the payment was made and minsterlaw keep the... (read more)

FSA WILL BE CONTACTED IMMEDIATELY I took out a Bennets insurance policy on my Lexmoto Tommy 11th September 2011. It broke so I tried to cancel it today, only to be told that I would be charged £30, which I accept, PLUS 40% of the premium! I had already paid a month up front of £37 and they wanted me to pay £61 to cancel! I read through all my terms and conditions, read over my policy documents and nowhere does it say 40%. All it says in the tiny Cancellation Rights section in the Policy... (read more)

I recently took out a new policy with Bennetts thinking I had a reasonable quote. A few weeks in, my first correspondance received was from Bennetts explaining that my policy had been cancelled due to them not receiving NCB proof. This was the first contact I had with them after taking out the policy. I don't think its a great way to do business and subsequent discussions have been short, sharp and extreemly unfriendly. I have now had to pay an extra £40.53 (cancellation and overdue balance)... (read more)

I'm in the same position. Can't get tax on mine. Fair enough that they have problems with their email but it's been over a week and they still haven't fixed it or made some other arrangements. I asked them to fax a copy direct to my post office 'can't do that just email and post' well just post really and it's taken over a week for that to arrive. Sitting and apologising is no good. The management just need to take action. It's not rocket science just employ some temps and get them to email out policies from a gmail or yahoo address until you get your email system fixed.
