Good Points: It's a Ferrari! More affordable than other more expensive models.
Bad Points: Lacks the good looks normally associated with the marque. This could put many fans off...
General comments: Replacing the 410, the Ferrari 400 Superamerica (SA) continued Ferrari's tradition of custom supercars and was one of the most exclusive road-going cars of the 50s. Each car was specially built with Ferrari's successful motor sport engineering and no two were alike.
Ferrari's last "America" model, the 400 Superamerica first took to the highways in 1959. Produced in Coupe, Spyder and also Cabriolet forms the 400 carried typically stylish coachwork in all variants.
Powered by a 3967cc V12, breathing through triple Weber carbs the 400 produced around 340bhp, giving it a 160+mph top speed.
All-round disc brakes helped keep the this rapid 2 seater in check, an overdrive gearbox also eased the cars high speed cruising ability.
Just 47 examples of the 400 Superamerica were built, including both the series I and II cars. 32 examples featured a distinctively rounded rear-end which were called Aerodynamica Coupes
