“disappointed this time”

★★☆☆☆

written by LeslieCD on 17/03/2013

Always liked going to the Exeter Arms to dine, but this time really disappointed with the food. Increasingly expensve (£18.50 RUMP STEAK) and so poor quality it was virtually inedible. The sevice was up to its usual standard, starters were very good but the mains not so good. If dining out, I feel that the food must be as good or better than I would cook at home, not so. I understand that the prices are aimed at the quality of customer that you are trying to attract, but sadly this may be the last time I visit!

The Exeter Arms in Easton on the Hill is, in my opinion, one of the finest pubs in the area. Living local, i have been watching the development of the pub for some time and was completley lost for words at the level of service and quality of food when me and my wife first visted.

As soon I walked through the door the staff welcomed us, even though it was a busy saturday night. We had a drink in the bar before being taken to the table and the place had such a buzz it was incredible! Sitting by the log buring fire we watched everyone around us, the other customers were happy and the staff where always smiling.

The food was exceptional, i had the duck and my wife had the belly pork and the two dishes looked and tasted beautiful! I had a few pints of the Ufford Ale which i found out they brew in a small village called Ufford and it was one of the best pints i have had! The wine was just at the right temprature and we had A vast amount of wines to choose from! A waiter even had the experience to offer advice on a nice wine that would compliment the food.

We left that evening very happy and will be visiting the Exeter arms next weekend if we can get in!

Booked a table for 8:30pm we arrived at 8:00pm bought drinks and the girl behind the bar asked if we had a table booked we said yes and gave our name and time she said that she would tell them we were there, still nobody came to us, they gave menus, to everyone who came in we then asked them for a menu as we had a table booked, we were given them and still was ignored would not go back at all and I would not recommend it either, what disappointing ending to my husbands birthday ended up at the ok diner.

I found this review not helpful because... its a LOAD OF TOSH. Check out the rest of the ratings and you will see that they are consistently 5/5. This is a great place with great food and service. I have been twice and both times all was excellent. These people should stick to Macdonalds and Ok Diner!

My partner and I have just been for lunch at the Exeter Arms with our inlaws. We too had monitored the progress of the renovations and were keen to see the outcome.

The waiting staff were excellent and we were greeted with a very warm welcome. The food that we had ranged from soup of the day, burgers, sheperds pie and a sandwich and they were all excellent. Very good value for money also.

We shall be returning for lunch this weekend with frineds and would highly recommend that you give this place a try..!

We visited the newly refurbished Exeter Arms recently. We had followed the progress of the renovations whilst driving past to Northampton regularly over the previous year and were keen to see what had been done inside.

We visited on a Tuesday at lunchtime and were immediately impressed by the warm welcome we received from the staff. The place has been beautifully restored, the menu is extensive with something for all tastes, and the service efficient and speedy.

The new toilets are very nice, spotlessly clean with all sorts of nice little extras.

My husband and I recommend a visit to The Exeter Arms.

Well, I can't fault The Exeter Arms, the food was superb, the building has been referbished very well, the staff were great. In my opinion one of the best resturants in the area.

When my girlfriend and I visited they were busy, however nothing was too much trouble, we were happy to wait for a table because we had heard such good reports and were pleased we did, the portions were perfect, well cooked and the presentation was fantastic, so much so we've booked for Christmas.

Well done and thanks to everyone there.

Recent visit with my 3 small children for Sunday lunch-just couldn't be bothered to cook! Staff very welcoming, our waitress was very patient with my boys. Beef perfectly cooked, accompanied by roast potatoes, mash, seasonal veg, "proper" gravy and homemade Yorkshire pudding. Liked the atmosphere, and seemed to have the balance between pub/restaurant just right.
I enjoyed it so much that I have booked my staff Christmas party here!

Over priced `pub grub' running off the reputation of the owners `local' reputation! Basically taking advantage of an affluent village & a lovely old pub that's been empty for a few years. we went for a good friends 50th and it was disgracefull, i am a professional chef in the hospitality trade, (and also a local) so I know what I'm talking about. PS IHAVE NO CATAGORY FOR ATMOSPHERE, I had to push a button!!!!

I surprises me that this "review" has not been deleted due to the fact the author of the "review" appears to have no grasp of reality.

It appears that he has problems with the owners of the establishment and furthermore he has problems expressing his views in a inoffensive and grammatical correct manner.

Surely the Review Centre site is for a review on the food, staff and general quality of the establishment not to vent his anger at the owners who may have created competition to his pub?

Lets just hope this "professional chef" performs his duties in the kitchen better than he conducts himself outside of his establishment.

On the otherhand perhaps it would be better to leave a listed building vacant for the local children to play in, only for the locals to complain when a fire is started and the demolition teams move in?

We had lunch in the newly revamped Exeter in Easton today. Verdict:
Lovely restoration job, nice wood-burner in bar, great eating areas & menus. Food was patchy, however. My main (duck, £15) was tiny with one potato and a small dollup of spinach plus absence of some of the flavours advertised on the menu. Victoria's lamb (£16.50, and ordered pink) was well done on the outside and raw inside. It went back and came out nuked. They didn't charge us for it in the end. However, desserts (bread 'n' butter pud, and cheesecake) were sublime and well worth £5.75 each. Service was slow despite it being quiet and there was no offer of bread &oils to break the waiting. Water ordered to come with food arrived after we'd finished. Overall, a bit disappointing, but should be good once they get into gear. The Collyweston Slater up the road needs to up its game big time!

First dish (main course) was crab risotto; served using long grain rice was stodgy and simply a lump in a dish, seemed to be about one teaspoonful of crab meat.

Second dish was chicken and bacon on rosti potato; chicken was dry, overcooked, bacon was singed.

Wait staff were pleasant but my comments about the food received no response from the kitchen. Coffee arrived, after asking twice, with dried spill marks down the cup.

Overall very poor value. No chance of us returning.

The Black Sheep real ale was in good condition and served at a nice temperature

The food on offer at the The Exeter Arms was mainly Game and Fish with the obligatry steaks as well. I had the Smoked Ham and Walnut salad to start and this was very nicely presented and tasted even better!. For the main course I had Partridge which again was nicely presented and was cooked to perfection.
