Visited an Aldi store for the first time ever this past weekend. I was not impressed with the prices of the generic grocery items they carry. I can find generic in my regular grocery store for the same price. Their customer service left something to be desired. There were two customers in line ahead of me. The customer that was being checked out decided in the middle of her order that she forgot some items, so she went to shop for them. The cashier then announced another line opening... (read more)

Aldi doesn't tell you until at checkout that: 1 - You have to buy or bring your bags 2 - You have to bag your own groceries 3 - Your credit cards are not accepted. Also, merchandise is off-brand and is probably inferior to your local grocery. Nothing that I liked about the Aldi shopping experience! (read more)

Am so impressed with Aldi's. Aldi has gone up the ranks as far as supermarkets are concerned, they are fast becoming a regular with many people I know. And why, it's simple, they have a lot of quality food at very competitive prices. I cannot do my entire weekly shop as they do not stock what most supermarkets do, and also our neatest Aldi's to Maidenhead is Yiewsley which is about 17 miles Way. I thought Aldi was OK and shopped there a lot. Often they had reduced on fruit and veg and I thought this was good - at least they are making an effort not to have too much waste. Now I find their company policy is do dump loads of stuff instead of reducing it. They still reduce provisions, i.e. meat, chicken, but not bread, cakes and f & v - where is the logic in that? I so hate waste. It's not just about me wanting a bargain, I really hate it when no effort is being made to reduce it.... (read more)

I work at an Aldi store. Yes, we try to anticipate the money the customers will give us and try to have the correct change ready to go (we calculate change manually by the way). This is to make the whole process as quick and efficient as possible, so we can serve the next customer as soon as possible. Aldi is run on 'skeleton-staff', so pushing customers through quickly ensures we can get off the registers and help out out fellow workmates on the floor as soon as possible. We will never sit at registers for longer than needed. This is why Aldi can offer low prices.

Thing is, you wont get the same cheap prices there if you dont follow the packing systems as they have to employ more staff so knock the prices up. Till speeds are timed and you get sheer hell if you dont reach 1000 items through your checkout an hour. Hence why there is a system to pack into the trolley then pack bags behind at the bench. Try and see from the staff point of view too! They have to say they are helping as they cant tell you the fact that they are pressured not to open more checkouts than needed as staff are not designated to just work tills they have to get up and do delivery etc as well in between or the store wont meet its daily targets. If there is ONE person over the que a new checkout has to be opened up again but as soon as your que gets shorter, if you are not the "first" checkout as there is a numbered order, you HAVE to close down to get on wirth other jobs or everyone will be stuck on tills and staff will be unable to work delivery, help out customers on the shop floor, tidy the shelves etc... Staff hands are tied, most want to give customer service but they are not allowed the time to helo customers on the tills it's sadly all about getting till speeds and cutting ques. Personally I hate this part of the the job the most but we have to work this way.

I work for adli and would hate to have you as a customer. Aldi doesn't bully customers, there is just a specific way that Aldi operates to serve customers in a quick and efficient way. That is why the prices are so low. If you do not like this method, then you have a great range of supermarkets that will charge you about 25% more on everything you buy, for the convenience of not "rushing" you so much. And the fact you have repeatedly left full trolleys at the checkout would have had you banned long ago from the store i work at. So now you have complained, i assume you will never shop at Aldi again. otherwise accept the methods that Aldi use and be quiet!

I too work for ALDI and I can understand that you may feel a little overwhelmed at the register. The reason why it is done in this fast manner is ultimately to keep staff levels to a minimum. If it was done slower, it would require more staff to be working (like the other supermarkets) and therefore this extra cost would be reflected onto the price of your groceries. We operate on very low margins, and time is money.
With your delicates place them at the back of the converoy belt so they are put into ur trolley last and therefore not crushed. Some people like to take empty boxes from the store and place them in the trolley so as to avoid the packing process. We thoroughly welcome this at ALDI.
Your more than welcome to call the head office and speak to someone in regars to this issue. Just remember that in order to keep grocery prices to the lowest cost possible your going to have to sacrifice some things (such as bring your own bags and the packing process)
