“Missing Corsica visit, Huge disappointment.”

Written on: 05/04/2013

This was our first cruise and a major reason for us booking this was that it included a visit to the Island of Corsica, which would be a chance to see somewhere not often available on other Med.cruises . Imagine therefore the huge disappointment felt by us and many of our fellow cruisers when the Captain announced on the first night, that due to a supply of contaminated fuel we would need to re-schedule the itinerary in order to refuel at Barcelona, and as a result we would not be visiting... Sorry to hear that its not up to scratch... we are due to go in a couple of weeks... not too fussed for the standard restaurants, dont mind paying a bit extra for a la carte restaurant. Heard about coffees. Re all inclusive, is the wine included in the a la carte restaurant? Is it likely to be cold on board? Not sure what to expect, our first cruise!

“Just off The Island Escape”

Written on: 05/10/2012

This is the second time in two years have been on this ship. Was told two years ago cabins would be updated, but they are just as bad and now need a complete refit. The bathroom was very poor the plug in the sink did not work, the shower was awful with a horrible blue plastic shower curtain. The beachcomber restuarant had wobbly tables and split seats and was very 70's. The theatre was so uncomfortable with really old fashioned chairs and tables. I must say that the cabins are kept... We booked Island Escape Glitz and Glamour and Best of the Med, 21st Aug -4th Sept 2012. Our first experience of a cruise ship holiday for our Silver Wedding Anniversary. We were not dissapointed. Everything the brochure said it did. The staff were very welcoming and worked so hard to make our stay a perfect one. The ship areas were always clean and again staff worked very hard to maintain this. We did do a few excursions, Rome and Cannes but next time will try to explore more on our own. We... (read more)

My husband and I and two friends enjoyed this cruise last june2011,we had a really good time so good we booked for this June. Yes we agree it is a tired ship and does need updating, but all the staff etc were very friendly. The food was excellent, the 24hr restuarant was also good. Some reviews say it had plastic cups and plates, so what it was all very clean. Yes this is an old ferry( never north sea ferries though). We went on it last year and are going again in may. The food was always nice, the entertainment good and all the staff so polite, pleasant and always attentive. We have been on other cruises which are more upmarket but so is the price you pay. Make sure you do your homework before you go so you are not in for a shock to find the Island Escape probably the smallest and oldest ship in every port you go to. At the end of the day this is sold as a 3* cruise so you cant expect 5* food and surroundings. The crew are so good i think Thomson should seriously think about buying them a newer ship!!!

“Island Escape 2011 Holiday”

Our Island Escape' cruise ship holiday was the best time we've ever had! It may have been our first experience of a cruise, but it will certainly not be our last! To wake up every morning to a different sunny location and eat breakfast on the deck and just take it all in, was priceless. The entertainment on our trip was something else! “Worst introduction to cruising.”

Written on: 06/09/2011 by hamiltro

Had better school diners than the food onboard. Decided to pay the extra in the waiter served restaurant, I've had better pub grub than what they served up. Seen better entertainment in the local pub then on this cruise. Pestered by waiters and photographers all day and night, must be on a rating system. Cabin very old fixtures. Not enough sunbeds or even chairs outside, miniscule sized pool. etc. etc. etc. Our 1st cruise, never again, put off cruising for life. (read more)

“Island Escape a poor cruise ship”

Written on: 01/09/2011

The Island Escape used to be a ferry and it shows - the ship was not built with cruising in mind and needs to be pensioned off. Thomson is not doing itself any favours in renting this ship. The food is excellent with a good variety of options at all times of the day and night and the staff work hard however, the ship is sadly lacking. It is tatty, shabby and tired. We were on this ship last November for the Colourful coasts cruise
<br/>I totally agree the staff are not helpful even the other passengers were not that friendly, on disembarking the staff would have had us coming off the ship 20 minutes after our plane took off and they were adamant and quite rude about the timings. Was not keen on dining room and preferred to go the the restaurant and paid the supplement every night although this was costly, and other ships do not charge for this If this had been my first cruise it would have put me off but luckily it was out 5th. We have just come off the Destiny and the difference was just No comparison! would recommend this to anyone but Never again on Island Escape.

Just got back from a cruise on Island Escape. My husband and I both got Norovirus and were quarantined in our cabin twice for 24 hours. The ship should be de-commissioned. Read reviews when we got back. Norovirus outbreaks on board have been going on since 2008. How many people must be made ill before this ship is stopped. This is an old ship and the virus must be part of its fabric. A so called clean-up was taking place as we left. General basic hygiene is what is needed. Dirt... (read more)

My new husband and I have just returned from our first cruise on the Island Escape. I have to admit I was very apprehensive having read several reviews, some good and some absoulutely terrible. i needn't have worried.. from the very moment we stepped onboard the Island Escape we were made to feed very welcome. Yes, the ship is moving on in years and could certainly do with a makeover, but the ship is one of the cleanest places, large well known hotels included, that I have ever been on. The... (read more)

As with all other people that went on the Cruise from Hell from Falmouth the holiday was a joke.
Bad organisation from Thompson and the %25 refund after everything that went on is the biggest joke of all.

I would NEVER go on a Thompson Cruise again !!!

1: lost 2 days at sea
2: Told would lose money if did not continue with holiday
3: Ship broke down
4: Bad substitute locations - guess thats due to the port fees.
5: Small cabins, unclean.
6: Rubbish entertainment apart from the comedian... (read more)

Just came back from a fantastic holiday on the Island Escape. We were in a party of 13. My partner and i have been on this ship many times but not for a while. Having read some of the previous reviews lately we were a bit sceptical because every one else in our party had not been before. We had nothing to worry about, the ship was spotlessly clean, the food excellent, and all staff were very helpful and friendly. Could not fault this holiday, and all rest in party agreed as well. We have been... (read more)

Just returned from our 2nd cruise on Island Escape, had a great time.....I don't know how people can complain.............the problems reported have not been the fault of the ship. The staff could not be nicer, they make you feel so special, food great and varied, it is worth the extra £15 to visit Oasis, the service and quality is excellent.

Yes, the cabins could be updated but they are clean and comfortable.

I hope to visit again one day............. (read more)

just arrived back into Palma yesterday. The ship is looking in need of refurbishment but is generally clean. Cabin was as big as you would expect - it is only for sleeping in and showering after all. Food was very good with plenty of choice - can`t see how anyone could complain. Staff very friendly and helpful. Shows were good. Overall a good value cruise. We have been on the Escape many times previously and the Thomson ships over the last 13 years and have enjoyed hem all. I think some... (read more)

Written on: 14/05/2010

Wife and I just returned from our very first cruise. We late booked a week on the Island Escape on the Mediterranean Discovry itinerary. After reading some of the comments we were a little apprehensive but we had a fantastic time. The food is worth a special mention, it was excellent with plenty of choice, catering for all tastes. There are two buffet restaurants, the Beachcomber (open 24 hours) which has plastic plates and mugs but this is to allow meals to be taken out on deck and the... (read more)
