“As respected as Cosmopolitan magazine is, I have to...”

written by ellieB on 31/10/2005

As respected as Cosmopolitan magazine is, I have to say that people who use it as their bible are either as thick as a plank, or as shallow as a puddle. If a magazine that tells you how inadequate you are, and only shows pictures of size six women, making you feel obese for being a normal(ish) size 10/12, is worth paying that amount of money for, then fine, but personally when you're not fighting your way through the adverts, you're drooling over items you can't, and never will be able to afford, and looking at amazingly stunning models. It makes me feel like I should aspire to be better than I am, which isn't what I look for in a magazine frankly.

Though I have never actually bought a copy of Cosmopolitan, as I'm still reading the hugely popular teen version, "Cosmo Girl". I have glanced the pages looking for the remotely interesting stuff, which appears to be nothing to do with fashion, but music and movie reviews. I noticed the increasing amount of advertisements in the magazine as well as insurmountable pages dedicated to diets and celebrity tips.
The amount of articles based on men and sex is out of proportion, how can Cosmopolitan call themselves a "Fashion" magazine when it is clearly become more like a porn style mag.
I don't think Cosmopolitan deserves all the credit it gets, with its lack of real issues, poor amount of fashion features, and self-obsessed diet articles (as if there aren't enough of those around!) it's not a magazine based on reality at all. I know for certain when I'm 35, I won't be a consumer of this magazine, I'd rather stay to true to reality and true to myself.

<br>Yes I agree. It really takes away from the magazine. I'm not saying sexual is bad, but the way Hollywood reflects sexual relationships (or one night stands) is reflected in this magazine. And that's coming from an 18 year old!
