Dire, even by the standards of the UK financial services industry. The way in which abbey national internet banking react to complaints left me wondering how an organisation this bad can still be in business.

www.anbusinessbank.co.uk is free. International transfers only available by fax (who still uses those?) or to 1 other account by phone. How can I have much better service and features from my personal account than from my business account. I will be switching to someone else as soon as I can find someone that isn't also rubbish!- Read Guest's review (58 words)

Has taken a month to close my account and payments never get carried out! The telephone service is poor I struggle to hear what is being said by the advisor because of the background noise and you get put on hold for two minutes while they retrieve you account details.- Read gl1's review (54 words)

Abbey Business Banking have apparently mislaid cheques I have paid in, it sometimes takes 3 days to clear cash, three days to clear wires, charges can be applied to charges and then interest and further charges on the interest and charges.- Read richreeve's review (43 words)

I have been with the Abbey since 2001. In all that time I have found them courteous and relatively efficient (about the same as other banks). I do NOT use internet banking or the auto phone system so I cannot comment on these - I always speak to a live operator and find them helpful and efficient. Abbey is free and I have had no major issues with it. I was amazed at all the negative comments on this site as this is not my experience - maybe I ' m just lucky!- Read eric123ertyu's review (101 words)

They used to be the FirstDirect of business banking and the most intelligent choice you could make. Saved us a fortune. 2008 has seen their service fall apart, payments fail, customer service disappear and basically become unfit for purpose.- Read bkieser's review (108 words)

I would advise anyone to avoid using Abbey National Business Internet Banking "sevice" - I will be transferring as soon as possible. Lately the service has dropped right off - I've waited an age for a new cheque book (essential for my business). No one answers my letters, the automated phone service does not recognise my date of birth so cannot be used. The overseas call centre is also hopeless.- Read sbco's review (87 words)

As most of the communication is done via the phone with Abbey National Business Internet Banking, the rest via post, the phone operators do not appear to know their procedures very well.
Please DO NOT open an account with them, as you may run into trouble with them as some point.- Read stevescage's review (70 words)

They paid my cheque into someone else's account!!! which delayed me accessing my money. When the money was paid back into my account I had a problems withdrawing it over the counter due to a rude, unprofessional worker.
This is the final straw for me after years of problems. Why didn't I leave sooner??????????

In our experience the customer ends up doing all the running when he is a victim of Abbey's lax security. As a result we rarely keep more than about £100 in our account these days which we maintain purely to receive payments from existing clients. The Abbey account would otherwise be too much of a worry for us because we could not rely on them to protect our money and could not trust them to take responsibility when things went wrong.- Read lstewart's review (171 words)

Would never recommend Abbey business internet business banking and we have come to the conclusion that sometimes it is better to pay for business banking because this at least offers some customer service.- Read adolphin's review (58 words)

I switched to Abbey Business from a high street bank that charged me a fortune, paid no interest, and provided little service. Abbey pays me interest, charges me nothing, and in over 2 years I have had no problems at all.- Read jkchapman's review (56 words)

Abbey National are very complicated to open a new Business Internet bank account with, even as an existing user. They make you jump through many hoops before they will let you open another account.
They let themselves down in the account opening process. It is too complicated, and it's a ridiculous way of assessing.- Read truitecuite's review (79 words)

They have cost me money rather than helping my business: if I charged them my hourly rate for the time I've spent trying to sort things out, they would owe me a bob or two!
Question: If First Direct can provide the service they do for personal banking customers, why can't Abbey National deliver anything remotely comparable for businesses? I wanted a simple bank account which would keep my business finances separate to my personal affairs. I got a headache. I think AN have bitten off mo ...- Read Jackie Farnell's review (129 words)

Once set up, the Abbey National Business Internet Banking system works well with only minor irritations.
Minimal charges. Good interest rates for savings accounts. Site easy to use. Transfers simple. Unlike our previous experience with NatWest, there is no daily limit to amounts that can be paid to beneficiaries.
If you go overdrawn accidentally, even for one day, you will be hit with high charges. Only a current balance figure shows on screen, not a running balance - and debits and credi ...- Read Yale's review (92 words)

We have switched here from Alliance & Leicester, and we have found them so much better than A&L, in almost every aspect. The Abbey National Business Internet bank account is easy to operate online or by post (with prepaid envelops), and you can always get them to call you back if you wish to speak to someone for urgent matters. Highly recommended!- Read XX's review (69 words)

I have been 4 days trying to access my abbey national business account online.
I am an experienced net user with a 2 years old macintosh G3 computer.
The site does not work. every time i try to log on it freezes my computer.
The support system is a joke. I got an automated response to my detailed request for assistance. Waited nearly half an hour to get through to telephone support - then got cut off right after giving five minutes worth of details! My follow up email has not even had a reply ...- Read Rhino's review (124 words and 2 comments)

What Do You Want From Your Bank? - Review - Banks are Killing
UPDATE: Although Abbey National is still a long way from offering the sort of services detailed in this article, they are probably the best bank I have yet seen for smaller Internet businesses,
