General comments: For the honeymoon couple that want to get away from it all to the perfect romantic setting then I can't recommend anywhere more guaranteed to have you gazing into each other's eyes than the Hotel Aliki on the Greek island of Symi. From the moment you step on the ferry from Rhodes prepare to be transported to a lovers' paradise.

Situated overlooking the historic harbour at Yialos, this is a traditional hotel with all modern comforts. With no traffic the only sounds you wake up to each morning are those of the waves lapping against the harbour wall below your room.

Air conditioned throughout and with en-suite in all rooms, the Hotel Aliki is a cool oasis of good taste. The private roof garden with its bougainvillea a magical spot from which to enjoy the sun and the views across the town.

Symi town rises up sharply from the harbour where sponge fishing and boat building provide a way of life for the locals. Strict preservation orders mean that old properties have been restored rather than new ones built. Access through the town is up steps and lanes, your progress only impeded by the occasional donkey.

To escape the daily influx of day-trippers from Rhodes, honeymooners are recommended to seek out the quieter beaches at Pedhi. But in the evening, when the trippers have returned, then enjoy local cuisine at any number of tavernas around the harbour or in the town.

After two days you will feel like you've been there a week. After three days everyone will know your name. After a week you won't want to leave your honeymoon island.... ever.
