I really prefer the original ones . The new version are ok but do not have the tangyness the old ones had. Now they are gritty and way too sweet. I live in Canada and it is not easy to find refreshers. I fell in love with refreshers the day sugar came of rationing. My mum gave me 3d so spend that day . I went to a couple of sweet shops near my school and I think I paid 2d for a packet of refreshers and I was addicted to them ever since until they got changed and they are not the same. (read more)

I haven't noticed a change, they are still tangy and fizzy, I eat 2 packs a day. Last week they were 4 for a pound in my local shop, this week they are 50p a pack but I am not happy as I was eating one tonight and there was a hair right through the middle! (read more)

I used to buy a 4 roll of these and would eat them practically all at once. They were pale in colour them and just pure ascorbic acid luxury. Ever since they have put natural flavours and colours there is no taste they aren't morish and a really good classic favourite has become bland and dull. Until they go back to the original recipe I'm staying clear. (read more)

I can't believe anyone has given these sweets a 5* review.
As a child, these were my favourite sweets. Tangy, fizzy and pretty damn good. When I started seeing them on the shelves again, I was pretty happy (despite being 30 years older!)
However, I might as well have been buying chocolate such was the difference between the 'new' and poor versions, in comparison with those which I used to love.
They're sweets. I don't want to see 'natural ingredients' or 'no added colour'. If I wanted...

I was addicted to the old style Refresher, always carried some in the car. Then they dissappeared from the shops for a while, and when they returned some months later, they were different; no fizz and too sweet, not the same sweet at all. Now the've dissappeared again from the supermarket shelves. Been looking for months now. Hope the original recipe returns again some time. Never met anybody who didn't like the old style Refresher. I have to agree with everything I have read. I also have been a fan of Refreshers for years,It was the texture as well as the taste that I loved. The new variety has neither, they're too hard, that melt in the mouth and fizz on the tongue has gone. Bring back the originals, why do they have to spoil everthing. I say lets boycott Refreshers until they get the message! (read more)

Tasty and frsh, they remain one of my favorite sweets, I think 30p a role is a little much though but I still buy them when ever I can - getting hold of them seems to be the problem as very few supermarkets stock them. I only wish they weren't so difficuilt to find in the shops (read more)

Well I think the idea of all natural is so kids aren't bouncing off the walls all day, I mean as adults they may taste different yeah, but some parents feed their kids junk all day regardless, so if we can make the junk better for you I guess it's all good....maybe we adults need to stop eating sweets like this then we'd have nothing to moan about? Thank god for caramacs though haha x (read more)

I remember picking up a packet today to relive the fond memories of these great sweets. Upon biting the first one I immediately noticed the off taste. Bassetts Refreshers just do not taste right. I'm getting sick of sweets altering recipes to use 'natural' ingredients when all they do is destroy the flavor, which is the POINT of buying them in the first place! If I want all natural I wouldn't be eating sweets in the first place.
I'm not sure if I'll ever look at a pack of Refreshers in the...

I used to love Refreshers, but they seem to have taken something out because now instead of the nice unique Refreshers taste, they taste like chalky winegums, and they all taste the same instead of having different flavours. Possibly they've taken out additives because they are 'bad' for you. I'd rather they put them back in. (read more)

Refreshers have been my favourite sweet since I was a child (now 38). I have been addicted to refreshers (2-5 rolls per day) and love the fruity taste and the chalky texture. I think the new 'natural' recipe is horrible and disgusting, I have tried to like them but they have a funny taste and do not even taste as good as Love Hearts. I just knew there had to be other Refreshers-lovers out there who share my opinion of the travesty visited upon us in the shape of these new foil-wrapped tubes parading themselves as our beloved sweets.
Refreshers are a tradition we grew up on. We like them as they were, that's why we've stuck with them over the decades.
What justification is there for the new ones???

I have been a refresher's addict since I was 14 (now 41). Have weaned myself down from a 5 pack a day habit to two packs a day. Usually buy the 5 roll packs in Morrisons, but recently they have been sold out. Today bought one in the new packaging and have just tasted. Hi everyone sorry to correct some of you but you may be delighted to be reminded that they are actually called barratt and not bassetts. The originals are excellent I have stocked up just in case I do not see them again.
