I bought a .22 Weihrauch HW35 air rifle second hand for £160 in an army surplus and its amazing! First time round i had bought a Walther CO2 rifle with an 8 round mag for £150 second hand but the mag kept jamming and it would fire 1 or 2 pellets before messing up. so i took it back and tried out the weihrauch. couldn't be more impressed! It shoots very nicely and is currently equipped with a 4x40 scope sighted in at 30yards approx with the .22 marksman pellets which aren't ideal but offer... (read more)

I have just sadly bought a second hand HW35, i cant group more than 3 shots any tighter that 4 inches @20 yards (even bench rested.)& at thirty yards trying to hit a 3 pint milk container was a real challenge. i just had a big accuracy problem with mine-the barrel latch becomes grimed up and does not catch properly-every time you load with this problem the barrel settles in a different position-take the barrel off( bit of a pain but not too bad) scrape out the gunge in the catch seat and it should be much better- hope this helps- there are some threads out there on-"weirauch barrel drop"

After fitting it with an uprated ox spring, i took it to remove some rabbits at a garden i was working at. Carbine model with Hawke 3-9x40 scope and silencer which made cocking the short break barrel alot easier, but somewhat annoying for quick quiet reloads. Sighted in at 25 yds to start with the first two bunnys fell to straight through head shots. The gun was really punchy and capable of much better range, so i set it at 40 yds and carried on. More rabbits fell the accuracy never failing,... (read more)

I recently got this air rifle new for £215,
I got home and too impatient to put the scope on, I fired a few pellets with the open sights, I'm not a fan of open sights but the ones fitted to this gun are very good. However the thing I was most impressed with is the trigger, very smooth and just the right pull wight.
over the week end I didn't some tests, (using air arms field diabolo pellet)
Accuracy:
50 yards will easily get 1 inch group (with some flyers, but I've only fire it about 200...

Ahh the trusted name of Weihrauch, again and again their rifles / pistols never cease to please.
I picked up a HW35 mine was 2nd hand (may have been 3-6th for all I know) and was very happy with the £40 bargain price tag. Although this was for just the gun with the factory set barrel and end action iron sights. No fear as a swiftly mounted 11mm dovetail scope was added in no time and being a 3-9x32 scope would provide plenty of magnification for this gun.
First impressions as with all the...

this air rifle is a brilliant starter rifle if the potential owner is new to the sport.
The weight is distributed evenly throughout the rifle.
A karbine version is availble.
highly accurate.
brilliant wood stock and body.
Will last as long as the owner does!
Quite heavy, not ideal for carrying for long periods of time.

Great gun for pest control, hunting or tin cans. I've had my HW35 since I was 15 and that's some 25 years now. I have always found to it to be very reliable and incredibly accurate. I purchased my HW 35L from Air Rifle Headquarters in 1971 when I was a kid. I still have it, just recently reblued everything and refinished the walnut stock. This was my first introduction to high quality air guns and back then nobody my age had one. I learned to deal with the recoil and once I had that down the rifle was deadly to small game and birds. I could nail anything up to about 50 yards.
The only maintenance was to replace the spring and the breech seal. Keep it in good shape...

This air gun has been manufactured for over 50 years what i need to say more. There is no other air gun like it. It shoots great straight out of the box. Its Weihrauch quality. Make sure you buy the "S" version. It's fitted with the famous Record trigger. This means you can adjust first and second stage just the way you like it. It's a near Match type trigger. You can also fit a scope if you like. It will easy do for shooting up to 35/40 yards. (read more)

I found this review helpful because...I agree totally with your comments.I have a 1970`s HW35 ,originally a 0.22.Then I was gifted a bag of HW bits, which included an even older 0.177 barrel. With the tired old original m/spring of the 0.22,my HW35; now converted to 0.177 struggles to do 9 ft/lbs with RWS Super-domes ;(9.4 ft/lbs with 4.52 mm Defiants). But (in still wind conditions) it stil does lovely 5 shot clover-leaf groups at 25 metres!Even with a tired m/spring it is so consistant and is a pure joy to shoot.

Considering it was first sold in Germany in the 1930s (apparently the Hitler Youth used them) and hasn't been updated very much to this day, the Weihrauch HW35 is a surprisingly good, strong, reliable rifle. Its styling and weight might put off younger buyers, but I find it easier to train on target than a lighter gun. (read more)

It was NOT used by the Hitler Youth, production did not start until the 1950s. Air-rifles were the only guns the West Germans were allowed to make after WW2 and were made for target shooting and killing vermin, nothing to do with the Nazis. The trigger design was decades ahead of its time and is still in use now on nearly all HW air-rifles, and is the standard all other air-rifle triggers are compared to. The HW35 is still an extremely solid rifle and an excellent design, small details having been improved over its 50 year lifespan.
