    Product: NAMESCO Designer Hosting

Namesco used to be one of the best hosting providers albeit a bit pricey. However recently their service and support has deteriorated due to an increasing number of attacks on their servers. This has resulted in frequent outages of both websites and email services. The latest issues have been with SQL databases timing out that has disabled the majority of Ecommerce websites.

After having our websites hacked by a malicious javascript we were told it was an issue with the security of our local computers albeit our hosting with other providers had not been affected and we are very conscious about our internal security. Namesco then disabled all ftp access to our clients websites and changed the main control panel login without letting us know. We were then advised to change all our clients logins resulting in a loss of a days work as these new passwords had to be then configured on our clients computers for email access etc.

A couple of weeks later we had the same scenario again and all had to be changed once more.

To top that during all the above problems our bandwidth went over by 2GB and Namesco suspended our account immediately without any notification which resulted in all our clients accounts, websites and emails going down. We had to contact them which is very difficult now and can result in anything up to an hour queuing on the phone to find out what the issue was. Having been told about the bandwidth charge we then paid any monies due immediately and was told our service would be restored straight away. After 20 minutes we called again and was told it would be another 15 minutes. A third call and we were told anything up to an hour.

As you can imagine all of the above can have a detremental affect on any web hosting company therefore I would think twice before considering Namesco as a virtual hosting provider for the following reasons:

    Lack of communications
    Poor security
    Very expensive
    Slow support response
Lack of consideration for clients businesses

By the way we are still without services and are in the process of moving to another server. You also get charged £10 for every domain you try and move away from Namesco.

My advise is to shop around as you will find a better service at a more reasonable price.

I'm very happy with Namesco, previously I was with O2 they told me that the highest speed I can get on my line is up to 2000kbps, well, we changed ISP to Namesco and now we have 5331kbps (http://test.speedtester.bt.com)at peak times it drops down to between 3000-4000kbps but that's not bad at all.
Also we had some SNR problems on our line I've been told that there is not much what they can do about it (previous ISP) somehow with Namesco is all sorted I didn't have to even call them.
    It is a bit ...

I originally used namesco, because although not the cheapest they did promise good customer service. However, 2 things have shown that this is not the case and I have now moved to another host.

    1. When I renewed a domain they failed to update it properly, meaning that although it said that it was in date in my account, it had in fact expired on the Internet and I had 2 days where my business website could not be used.

    2. For one of my domains, they failed to send a single renewal reminder. Ins ...

Names .co.uk used to be good but over the last few years i've had nothing but problems, try calling support aaarrrrggggg, they just try to throw blame around without even trying to fix it. I've never called support without fewer than 9 people being in front of me in the Q, oh, and of course you have to pay for the privilege of waiting.

Too many problems lately to mention. They deleted one account and website and took 3 days to put back up as they were arguing whose fault it was, it was their f ...

I 'm really surprised about all the negative comments on here. I 've been with namesco for several years with very few problems (most of which due to my own ignorance, rather than namesco 's). I 've got their Designer Service which now allows you to host up to 15 sites. I 've got 9 or 10 with them (Linux) and use the Mysql databases extensively. They recently had a major disk error but backed up automatically to a 24 hour-old backup within about 12 hours of the event. I know they 're not th ...

Some of Namesco's technical supports seem to have no idea what they are doing. I have transferred away from them now and I have no problems in uploading to my new provider. I have wasted so much time in contacting them and asking them to sort the problem out.

You can't link to Sql Server from your own Sql Server on your computer - as it "constitutes a security risk".
You can't use custom dll's - so all code has to be in the web project rather than referenced in another project (such as business logic, data access, url redirect etc etc) and anything that would normally go in the bin directory will not work.
They're a hosting company that has been set up for open source scripting rather than microsoft development languages it seems. They may be good fo ...

I had a similar problem to a lot of the people on this board. I had around 20 sites hosted with Namesco. Our clients started having problems; they would remove drive mappings on the web servers (so scripts would stop), change security settings or restrict types of files which could be hosted, and as far as I am aware have not yet let me know! - They simply didn't care when we phoned or emailed! Many a late night was wasted trying to find out what exactly they did (and a work around).Needless to ...

Have an Internet Company called Internet Innovations. Currently going to the wall because the deal I had with UKDomains was for unlimited domain names. Namesco imposed a 1GB limit for bandwidth even on sites that had a placeholder on them. I'm now paying over five times what I paid before and I haven't been able to add a domain name in 2008 as far as I am concerned. I won't say too much because I hope namesco can dig me out of this hole, but bottom line is I'm spending thousands in my opinion an ...

We had a web company using a hosting resellers package from a company called Uk Domains, Namesco took over Uk Domains (virtually no warning) and we no longer have a company.

For the three months we stayed with them the service was unbelievably poor, clients were constantly reporting emails going missing, and constantly reporting their website being down again! This ended with customers leaving. Each time we contacted Namesco, they told us that it was because they were transferring everything fr ...

One of my clients bought a domain with them she owns 3 with them already. I thought nothing wrong with that, I will just go in and add my servers nameserver, like I have done for other clients. Went into my admin on my server, fantastic its found it!Then added it to a directory on my server and normal in a few mins its done (experience with other domain sellers) 24 hours later still showing the namesco page. Emailed them and they said, they cannot help as its nothing to do with them.Hoping the D ...

Fair play to them they answer there emails and phone

Take time to answer the phones, don't seem to have much computer knowledge or server management knowledge in my opinion.
There ok I would go for the linux hosting option after trying the windows one it was a bit glitchy, linux though seems to run nice and smooth.

Poor when things go wrong. Still unable to ftp to my website on a Monday evening because they are still trying to resolve a Denial of Service attack from Sunday.
Ex XSession customers appear to be very low on their priority scale if one exists.

Names Co is very very expensive in both hosting and domains. The £60 per year hosting doesn't even give you php or mysql databases.

To register a domain it is £9.99 and to renew to is £20! They told me that nomninet tell them how much to charge for renewals.

I was with Smartchoice Web Hosting, and then after NamesCo took over all went wrong. I left NamesCo and went with another provider, and recently (just 1 week ago), I came back to them and it's terrible. They state they have 24 hour support, but they don't even have any support at all, and their servers are so slow. I am thinking of moving back to my old hosts.
