“There when you need them most!”

Written on: 15/05/2013

I first purchased some domain names from names.co back in 2001 and I was happy then. Things have moved on and I have recently purchased another 60+ domain names from them. As we were about to launch our new website, which required lots of domains pointing to one "umbrella" site, we encountered some technical difficulties; at first glance and to non IT minded folk, these technical issues appeared daunting and caused a lot of stress. I called names.co technical support - half expecting them to... (read more)

“Avoid, rubbish support and missing key features”

Written on: 30/04/2013 by rdcrew3392 (1 review written)

Usually moving a WordPress website from one host to another is simple right? Copy all the files and database over to the new server and update the WP Config to use the new DB details if they had changed, I've done it plenty of times before. But with namesco it's a NIGHTMARE, they have no Mod ReWrite they apparently use 'a better system' (even though everyone else uses mod rewrite) which means adding a script file to your server via FTP. But now what? My CSS files are getting a 403 access... (read more)

“Database Driven Websites - Namesco are clueless”

Written on: 18/04/2013

I write database driven websites, and the first rule is that you have two Users. One user only has SELECT privileges, and the second ADMIN user has full administration rights. This matters since the first user allows the outside world to see your products, this user doesn't even need a password because it's only looking, the ADMIN user's password must be input and is never held on the website. The numpties at Namesco have now decided only one user per database is allowed, therefore you must... (read more)

“Diabolical service”

The customer service team - if you can get through (and on this occasion it's taken 3 days, waiting for up to 30 mins before I give up and go and hit the cat) - are surly, patronising and hopeless. Today I was told there was no-one familiar with macs, so they couldn't help beyond what I could read on the web-site. They were happy to leave me with no incoming mail. They are constantly changing something or other, which usually means I can't access my account. I'm leaving, whatever it... (read more)

“After 5 years , finally changing”

Written on: 21/02/2013 by adiadrian (1 review written)

I have been with Names.co.uk for 5 years, but never really happy mainly because they are far over priced from domain names to their hosting which is 3-4 times more expensive then competition. But now I decided I had enough because they had a special offer where the hosting for 1 year was somewhere around £90 but they were gonna charge me the normal price to renew which was £230 telling me that the offer is for new customers only. Well I am an ex customer then. (read more)

I have been a names.co.uk customer for a while and have recommended them to clients, primarily because they have good telephone sales and technical support for domain names. “want unsecure hosting and ridiculous support? Get all...”

Written on: 08/07/2011

Namesco are an appalling company. They hike their prices up once they get you as a customer. They provide unsecure hosting, (we've been hacked three or four times, each time we get linked to a vi*gra site that has been linked to another of their hosted sites. They try and blame it on our poor scripts. (There is nothing poor about our scripts trust me). The latest incident, I had gotten a new ip address and they tried to blame the attack on me! Quoting my new ip... If we didn't have so... (read more)

“Waiting for non-existent support”

Written on: 19/06/2011 by TomHagger

I've been waiting for 4 days for Namesco support to reply to my urgent problem, I've called 3 times and given up after waiting for 30 mins each time. They really are a disgrace. (read more)

“Taken me to the cleaners!”

Written on: 16/06/2011

They wheel you in with great initial offer, but as soon as your hosting or domains expire prices more than double!! they're trying to charge me £48 for a 2 year .com (new registrations are £25), and you can't change to another registrant without namesco forcing you to pay an unlocking fee of £12. They are total crooks.... stay well clear of them. (read more)

“Total c**p”

Written on: 02/06/2011

The most expensive domain renewals I've seen nearly £50 for a .com for 2 years) and although they claim 'no hidden fees' they still whack a £12 'unlock' fee if you want to move your domain to a cheaper provider. My emails often were down - support takes about 2 days to respond (if they bother at all) - it's a big competitive market and I suggest people look elsewhere. (read more)

“Absolutely shocking company. They are total crooks....”

Absolutely shocking company. They are total crooks. Their service and support is terrible. I had many domains with them and hosting packages to. Every one has been a problem and I have transferred all of them elsewhere now. As soon as I said I wanted to transfer away even more trouble was thrown my way. They locked domains, stop me accessing files on my hosting then demanded over £100 if I wanted my domains and files back. They know the internet complaints system won't stop them because by... Bought out by an italian co. last year, ramped up their advertising never bothered investing in hardware, they were forced to migrate to a hired mysql server a couple of weeks ago when their main unit went down. Continual problems from bad customer service to useless harware provision. Will probably be sold off again shortly - definate avoid!!! (read more)

I was without email for a week and all I never got an apology.
I use it for personal use. I can only shudder what it would be like if I used it as a business.
If you want reliability then don't go anywhere near them. (read more)

What a major disappointment. They have left our company with no e-mail going into the third day.(16-17-18th Feb 2011).WHAT IT COMPANY DOES THAT????....... A VERY BAD ONE!!!

I thought I had chosen a very reliable firm - but we have lost many customers through this major clanger that they have dropped. I can't even understand how a company that charges reasonable money for e-mail can fail so badly.

If you want reliable e-mail...go elsewhere!!
