Good Points: Great lens - great image quality Easy to use Auto-settings are great and well balanced Good battery life in comparison to others Good image clarity - other camera owners have commented on my photo's! Great software tools - Image stitching and the zoom-browser software is great! Make sure you download the latest versions as they are greatly improved since the first version I had!
Bad Points: No battery meter - no way to tell batter life until its about to die! A bit thicker than a few other camera's in the same league
General comments: Ive owned digital camera's since the beginning, and this is one of the best I've used.
Its great in every way to me, except if I could, I'd make it a bit slimmer and incorporate an on-screen battery meter.
That's it!

Unless the lighting conditions are GREAT you will not get clear shots with the Canon Ixus 500. The graininess of the photos are driving me nuts! I have tried changing the settings, the ISO, the lighting conditions, etc. But to no avail. I live in the UK and the minute it gets cloudy (every day) the camera struggles to get nice clean skies, less grain. Compared to friend's Fuji cameras I am disappointed, especially since I paid much more.

The Canon Ixus 500 is an excellent piece of Kit. Family needed our first Digital camera. During a stop over at Dubai Duty free, My dad purchased one of these beauties for about 200 quid with a free extra Mem card.
Easy to use controls, with auto focus and simple buttons. If your an amature this is the camera for you.
Came in a Maroon colour and It was so small it will fit in the palm of your hand. Took a few high quality pics and used the memory card to develop the pics at a Digital Kiosk. ...

I had the Canon Powershot S50 which I was quite happy with but it got broken on holiday (a reminder to buy a case) and the insurance money paid for the Ixus 500 which is great. So compact and good looking you can take it everywhere although heavy for its size. Easy to use, easy connectivity with a PC and fantastic picture quality. Good for point and shoot. Battery life is better than most but still not great.
