Good Points: Pictuce quality was great when working, 100hz quality, teletext worked well, remote was easy to understand / use.
Bad Points: Not reliable - blew up after only 18 months of home use. Difficult to repair and get parts for in Australia. Sharp dubious about warranty on new TV bought through EBay Auction House.
General comments: This Sharp 81FW57E widescreen TV "blew up" after only 18 months of use. Local Sharp repairers were useless and after taking it apart several times and trying to "diagnose" the problem they told us they needed some parts that Sharp in Australia could not supply. We managed to get the parts from Ireland (!) and still the TV is not repaired. We have since taken it out of their hands and moved it to another repairer. The problem was the standby light was lit but the TV would not start up. (I've read of similar problems with another Sharp Widescreen.) The repair centre said a diode was overheating and "blowing" whenever they tried to turn it on, but they could not understand why. Sharp Australia has not been supportive at all.
