“Pricey but hassle free. Sold!”

★★★★☆

written by on 08/08/2013

Sold my Ford Focus after 5 days of being on the site. The fee of £40 to post is a little steep but i found it to be worth it considering i hadn't gotten a single call from other sites such as gumtree. I think people expect to get more for their car then it's worth, put it up at a fair price and it will sell. 1st to view has a short test drive and gave cash on the spot. I had a friend with me to show i wouldn't accept troublemakers. I would recommend leaving your email address off and using telesafe as your get countless phishing scams. All in all worth it.

I like Auto Trader. It's an easy website to use and also has a good range of cars. Haven't bought the car yet but I like the ease of using website. Will come back with an update on purchase shortly (hopefully).

“Pricey if your selling but always get results”

written by on 10/06/2012

I have used this site for years and have bought and sold many times. A vast range of vehicles are always available and it's great for comparing prices. The only issue they have failed to deal with is scammers. Everytime i advertise i get calls from other agencies trying to flog my car for me - hopefully they'll get this sorted out otherwise they are a valuable resource

I have used this site for years and have brought and sold many times. A vast range of vehicles are always available and it's great for comparing prices. Those who complain that they did not sell - how is that Autotrader's fault!? There are many people trying to sell poorly advertised vehicles or over priced, unpopular models. The only issue they have failed to deal with is scammers. Everytime i advertise i get some foreign scammer with a odd 'English' name emailling me. I let Autotrader know and nothing. More to protect us please.

★★★★☆

written by kingofreviews on 22/09/2009

Autotrader is the default website for UK users looking for a secondhand car. Certainly the market leader by some margin, it has moved more mainstream than it used to be and I suspect that the majority of cars for sale are now from dealers, whereas at the outset this was much more about person to person. A great resource if you nkow what you want, but falls short if you need help deciding - review content, specification comparison and test data are all very much playing second fiddle to classified ads - they make money through transactions of course. Go elsewhere for research, use Autotrader to find what you want.

Auto Trader is a great place to trade in vehicles but a word of warning:
When I advertised my email address I got a couple of replies which were obviously (to a trained person like myself) attempts at fraud. Don't believe those guys who want to buy your car and "send shipper" without even having seen the car.

Autotrader is beyond doubt THE number one website in the UK for buying or selling vehicles of all types, you can purchase anything from a digger to a Ducati.
Exchange and Mart used to be almost level pegging with Auto Trader but it lost its way a few years ago, with an over complicated website. I also used eBay for a while but got fed up with time wasters phoning me with stupid low offers when selling, and dishonest sellers posting a description of the car which was a work of fiction.
Autotrader consistently delivers a wide selection with the best search engine. Their customer service is also superb with emails quickly answered. Recommended.

Big Dave Midlands's Response to Big Dave Midlands's Review

Written on: 20/10/2009

Since I wrote my review, the Auto trader website has undergone a great deal of revision, and I am sorry to say not for the better. Previously we had a clear and easy to use website with simple navigation and drop down menus. Now we have a heavily rebranded live site that is still being beta tested and developed that is slow, has fisher price icons, crashes regularly and is basically a rebranding disaster that ties in with their recent TV ads. For me the main issue and fundamental flaw is that navigation of the vehicles that are for sale is slower and more cumbersome. Every time you click on a picture of the car is launches a separate screen that is slow to move across, and why when I am looking at 2nd hand vehicles, do I need to be told how many new vehicles are available? They have also tried to be clever and introduce a comparison feature but this simply slows the site even more, and it is nothing I couldn't do myself by launching a separate browser window by right clicking on the mouse or clicking my thumbwheel. I could go on and on about how poor the new rebrand is but instead I will summarise by saying that if the site doesn't switch back soon, I would imagine the competition, especially a certain well know internet auction site will be rubbing their hands with joy at the extra revenue coming their way.

I've bought several vehicles through the Autotrader with no problems whatsoever. In fact it's the first stop for me when looking for an exchange or new vehicle, even car parts.

“I have sold 2 cars on the Auto trader UK site. I have...”

★★★★★

written by JamesO on 09/08/2006

I have sold 2 cars on the Auto trader UK site. I have noticed that the price had gone up quite a bit in the interim period, now 15.99 for 2 weeks. However, the site has worked very well for me, selling both cars within a few days of advertising, although they were the sort of cars that go quite quickly (Alfa GTV & Accord Type-R). I have also bought my last 2 cars on the site (the Honda & a Boxster S) and it has all worked out very well.

The site is well set out and easy to use; registering allows extra search options, which is very useful. In all, I have been very satisfied with the results, much better than the 'bandits' that canvass you on the phone after having seen your car on the Autotrader website. Generally, Autotrader UK is a very good site.

“I have been using Autotrader for the last 11 years to...”

★★★★☆

written by dizzyfizzy1 on 23/05/2006

I have been using Autotrader for the last 11 years to both buy and sell cars and bikes as I get very bored of my vehicle's very fast and need a change.
The last car I sold using Autotrader was a 1997 BMW 520i SE at the beginning of May 2006. It had done 207,000 miles but I still managed to sell it to a car dealer for 1300 (he was the 2nd guy to respond to the add on the Thursday the Trader came out). This was the 5th car I had sold using Autotrader and apart from the odd time waster it gets me good results.
The bad thing about buying a car using the Autotrader is that there are a lot of dishonest people out there. I have looked at a number of cars over the years that have been described to me as in perfect condition, they even said they were in great condition when I phoned the sellers up but unfortunetly when you see them they are not. So be prepared to drive 30 or 40 miles to some back street garage just to come back home disappointed. For instance I went to look at a Frontera Sport 2.8TD two weeks ago that I was told was in perfect condition, after driving from York to Leeds the car had an oil leak, no service history (the ad said FSH) and major rust running up the side of the windscreen. The dealer said you wouldn't have come if i told you about the faults on the phone so just make me an offer so I just drove back home.
My tips when phoning about a car in the trader are as follows:
1) Ask how long they have owned the vehicle (if a private sale).
2) Ask how many owners it has had.
3) Ask whan the last service was done.
4) Ask how much MOT is left on the vehicle.
5) Ask for an honest description of the vehicle and if there are any mechanical faults or damage/rust to the bodywork.
If the car then sounds good take a look at it.

If you don't know much about cars take somebody with you who does or get a check done by the RAC/AA and have a good drive in the car (make sure it is insured before driving it).

If you follow these tips you can find a good car in the Auto Trader that you will be pleased with.
As I said earlier I have been using Autotrader for 11 years and it is a good way of buying a car and in my opinion it is the best way to sell your car fast.
Also if your not sure how much to sell your car for then look at models in the Trader and see what price people are asking for them.

★★★★★

written by sportdonkey on 06/05/2004

I recently used the Auto trader website to buy my Peugeot 206. I was very happy as the website is easy to navigate, and I quickly found the best car for me. The search tools allow you to find all cars of your designated make and model with in a set distance of your address (using your post code). Then you simply click the link to email the seller and do the business.

They have got all major cars listed from Ferraris to fiestas, it feels like a guide to ever car on sale in the country at that particular time. The only real downside is that you have to register to enjoy some of the bonus features such as searching by year, engine size or millage. But to be fair joining isn't really a major problem and well worth it for these extra benefits if you want to buy a car.

I would highly recommend this site to buyers and sellers even if you want to just compare the going rates for what you re buying/selling.
