Absolutely dreadful from start to finish. Staff rude disinterested looked like they'd just come from school. The food was awful. Cold chips and soggy battered fish. I assume the price was so inflated to pay for the "Ikea" type chandeliers.
Dreadful and will never go again you have been warned.
ps. Your review for atmosphere should include at least one unsatisfactory option and not be forced to choose options available that certainly are not suitable.

Been going to Harry Ramsdens since I was a child but never again. Went to the one at Blackpool and sat in the restaurant. The fish didn't taste fresh and the batter was all soggy and seemed like it had been fried in old oil. The portions were very small for the price paid. When we told the waitress that we didn't enjoy out meal she said there was nothing she could do as we had eaten it and we should have told her this before. Also the toilets were filthy the soap didn't work and the hand dryer d ...

First off, of COURSE it's more expensive than the local chippy, because you are paying service and to sit in.

Second of all, I would ALWAYS recommend Brighton. It's always busy and lively, and the fish is always freshly cooked.

To be fair, it's usually all prepared in the morning, so it tastes nicer the earlier you go in.

I have never had a bad experience there, all the years that I've eaten there with my family. Harry Ramsdens is lovely, it really is.

    I wouldn't recommend the last servic ...

This was a Harry Ramsden "franchise" linked to a Moto Travel Lodge just off the A30 near Exeter. Forgive my ignorance, I didn't even know there was such a thing as a Harry Ramsden franchise, (possibly in "takeaway" format but not as a restaurant). In fairness, we hadn't eaten in on of their restaurants for some time so obviously changes had taken place. Most of what has already been said is our recent experience, also. We used to really love Harry Ramsden's fish and chips - it was always a rare ...

We were seduced by the menu outside Harry Ramsdens, offering interesting menus for children. Once seated inside we were given child's menus that offered only basic ice cream or yoghurt. My son's drink arrived with lipstick on it from a previous customer. The chips were completely disappointing, looking and tasting like oven chips. The adult dessert menu had my wife's first four choices unavailable.
The meals were very over priced (£32 bill for 4 lots of fish and chips with tea and squash!) ...

We ate at the Blackpool Harry Ramsdens beleiving that we might get a reasonable meal given the claims that the chain makes about the quality of their fish and chips. I had scampi and chips, paying extra for mushy peas and was disappointed at the small size of the meal. My husband had a meal deal and said it was OK. However, I suffer from Crohn's disease and whatever was in the food has brought on a 'flare-up' of my condition. I would not recommend this restaurant.

I wish I had read these reviews before I went with myself, husband and son to harry ramsdens. We were £33 for three fish suppers, two cokes and a glass of white wine. Fish/chips were small portions as described below - I don't mind paying the extra if there is a real difference in taste etc, but there wasn't- the food was bland and tastless - I wish I had went to our local chippie which would have been tastier and far cheaper. I did advise the waiter when he asked if we enjoyed our meal ...

Harry Ramsden is utter rubbish.Tiny fish. Chips all over the floor. Uncooked Pizza. Just plain rubbish. This was Harry Ramsden's Gt Yarmouth. Don't go. Get your fish from any other Fish & Chip shop in Yarmouth. There's dozens better. Really. Dozens.

I thought I'd give Harry Ramsdens a try about ten years since the last time I was there. I had heard a lot of bad rumours but decided to give it a chance. Big mistake - a fool and his money are soon parted.

Tiny portions (fish looked more like a fish finger), ridiculously overpriced, staff would leave you waiting for ages (although it wasn't that busy!). The atmosphere was awful and I have never seen so many disappointed faces (of customers seeing their food arrive in front of them) in my li ...

I have always been a fan of Harry's since i was a kid. The great thing i like about it is you know what your getting. Plus unlike over places their fish and chips are prepared daily in the kitchen using fresh products. The fish i had last week was honestly the best i have ever tasted. whilst the size is not as large as my local chippy, the quality is so much better. and to be honest, who wants to be eating fish and a mountain of chips, it just ruins the balance of the meal. hat off to you Harry ...

Overall the meal was a huge disappointment and to cap it off the bill was over £25 for two fish and chip meals, a glass of wine (nearly £5) and a pint of guiness.

Keep trying this place but it never gets any better for me, the chips are so over fried, they are dry my 3yr old wouldn't eat them. I feel that the food is cheap quality but very overpriced. Greasy batter. Went today, 5hrs later we still feel sick. Wont bother trying again. Harry Ramsden would be turning in his grave. Lakeside, Thurrock, Essex.

This was a horrible experience for me. I took my partner and his three children there for a birthday meal. I will never go back. I felt it was overpriced, for instance, I was charged almost £5 for a trifle that was mostly dry sponge. There was nothing about it that I could say I enjoyed - such a shame that a restaurant with such a well known name should apparently fail so dismally. Nobody came to check whether the meal was ok, or whether we wanted more drinks. The fish and chips weren't e ...

Proper fish and chips - ie as made in Yorkshire - is a great and tasty tradition. And the original Harry Ramsdens on the outskirts of Leeds was a local institution 30 years ago when I lived there. So what a shame that on every occasion I've tried this franchise I've been greatly disappointed. The Nottingham branch was usually empty yet the service was slow. Worst of all was the one at a motorway service station: I counted the chips - 13 of them! and the fish was 3 mouthfuls. All this for £ ...

This is one of the worst places I have ever eaten in. Like many of the reviews here me and my girlfriend had heard of Harry Ramsden's fish and chips so decided to try the brand, big mistake. The staff that served me and my girlfriend ( Bournemouth ) seemed disinterested and appeared not to want to be there at all. They seemed impolite and hostile towards me. I ordered fish and chips. The fish portion was the smallest I have ever had. I'm CONVINCED this hasn't even seen a fryer. It appeared just l ...

I took my four grandchildren and their parents to Blackpool to enjoy the last weekend of lights, we had a lovely time until deciding to eat in a Harry Ramsden restaurant which was the downfall.
I will never eat in one again, my opinion of this particular one is that it is overrated, over priced and certainly not "A good English fish and chip shop"
The tables were piled high with dirty dishes and staff were serving desserts around them until I asked them to be removed.
My 7year old Grandson as ...

Over priced and under fed. Harry Ramsdens in Salford is a load of rubbish. The corner chippy is better value, and you get bigger portions.

I had heard that Harry Ramsden Fish Restaurants were the benchmark of quality for fish and chips. Apparently, according to a newspaper report, people in some areas of the country queue along the street to purchase this 'world famous original (made popular by the gentleman Harry Ramsden) recipe' product. I purchased a portion of the humble cod and chips and when sitting down to eat it, found it to be the worst piece of fish I have ever experienced. The chips were equally inferior. All I can state ...
