Good Points: Fantastic food - service and vibe!

Bad Points: Wish we lived nearer.

General comments: We arrived in Twickenham for the Rolling Stones concert - which incidentally was brilliant! We had been advised by your web site that the Austin's Bar and Restaurant has a good reputation and seemed the best place for us all to go to for a pre-concert lunch (bearing in mind that we were looking for a place that was not stuffy nor expensive). Thank you so much for the recommendation, we loved it, really cool place and even cooler people. The food was to die for, one of our party is a part owner of an up-market East London based restaurant he declared it faultless - this was the one person I had to talk in to going here - he wanted to go to a much more expensive place in St Margarets. Thank you for the recommendation; although we live in East London we will certainly make an effort to visit this wonderful restaurant again.

Having read Fay Machelers review of theAustin's Bar and Restaurant in the Evening Standard we decided to try-out this restaurant (it's not easy to find) we arrived late - lost! A lovely young man greeted us, smiled happily and welcomed us as if we were old friends - how refreshing to go into a restaurant these and be met by a waiter -smiling!! The food at Austini's is by far the best available in the Borough of Richmond - Excellent. To start with we had Newlyn caught Sardines grilled with sw ...

There is no way that the other reviewers eat at the Austins Bar and Restaurant that myself and many of my friends do. The place has style, and the food is without doubt excellent. I'm a local person, and I am in no way connected to the restaurant. These are my true comments of a restaurant that needs encouragement, not negative drivel that was probably based on someone having a bad day.

Austin's Bar and Restaurant in Twickenham has a nice interior, attentive staff, funky music, great lighting and absolutely fabulous food! It is the best evening we've had in years! The food was outstanding. The Capesante Scottate was, without hesitation, the best scallops I have ever, ever tasted. The roasted rabbit was a huge hit with us too, but the best mains had to be the organic veal chop with slow roasted fennel. Again, outstanding! Pudding consisted of pannacotta with berry reduction a ...

All-in-all, Austin's Bar and restaurant in Twickenham is a superb and elegant restaurant, with very good staff and wonderful food. We joined some work colleagues (not always the best dinner companions) for dinner on Tuesday last week, and we had the most enjoyable time. The moment we entered Austin's we felt really welcome. We were offered drinks and some warm home made ciabatta, with very good quality olive oil and aged balsamic. All seven of us had starters, mains and puds, and without doub ...

Having been to Austin's Bar and Restaurant in Twickenham on a regular basis, I have to report that this is without doubt the best meal I, or my fellow diners, have had in years! The food was exceptional. This is Italian cooking at its very, very best - and very reasonably priced, as too is the wine. The service was silver-service standard (it was a little sloppy in the past). The Manager was very attentive and cheerful, as were the bar staff. Thank you all. I understand that Francesco Zanchet ...

You should disregard the previous reviews as Austin's Bar and Restaurant in Twickenham is an excellent restaurant with a solid wine list. We will be regulars. They have new management, a new menu and a new chef. We are new customers, so we can only comment on what we ate. We had steak, which was very tender. The scallops were fantastic, and the Tuna was excellent. The Tiramasu will keep us going back.

Both myself and my boyfriend had the worst meals we have had in a restaurant in a very long time at Austins Bar and restaurant in Twickenham. Nothing that arrived related in any way to the descriptions on the menu, and it was lukewarm. The only Italian restaurant I have ever known that considers Smash to be a vegetable! Over priced too. When we complained we were greeted with indifference, and the statement that they were fuller than most other restaurants in Twickenham was not really the poi ...

We went to Austini's restaurant in Twickenham soon after they had had a re-fit and added good pictures etc. We started with the Madagascan prawns and fruttura of seafood, and they were very very good. On the mains it was a mix of veal, steak and skate, and they were exceptional, particularly the veal, which was organic and very well cooked. All of it was really good. We were very surprised by the low price, but are they just the 'soft re-opening prices'? I hope not. We're sick and tired of h ...

Austins in Twickenham is now called Austinis, and is trying to serve Italian food. Unfortunately, when I visited they did not have a chef capable of serving up anything near competent enough - just a pretty disgusting mush. The service was very poor - plenty of staff for so few covers, but hopelessly inattentive. The vegetables were delivered while we were finishing our meal - no apology, and they were vile. All this for a very steep price, and no option on whether to include a tip. This place w ...

Four of us 'dropped-in' to Austins Bar and Restaurant in Twickenham after being told on the phone that the restaurant was full. It was, but we were told to wait and have a drink at the bar, which we did. We were very glad we did wait! It was a great night! The food was excellent! I'm a senior manager at one of the Conran restaurants, so I get to eat very well most of the time. I started with the scallops, and one of my friends had the fresh picked crab, and the other two the the soup ( old Lo ...

Twickenham, Modern British, Austin's Bar and Restaurant - I organised for 30 of my friends and family to meet up at Austins to celebrate my birthday in what would otherwise have been a deserted Sunday evening in Austins....I had a great night, but this was down to the company rather than the venue. The management were extremely unpleasant. It was a real shame as all my previous visits (at least 6) have been faultless which was why I arranged to go there. A lot of my friends that were there live ...

I went to Austin's Bar and Restaurant in spite of reading other less than enthusiastic reviews, the initial impression was good, the menu read well, but there I'm afraid it ended, the food itself was totally uninspiring, between 3 of us we had a fair cross section of what was on offer, the scallops were totally nondescript, the salmon just looked a mess on the plate, the suckling pig was just that on a splodge of mash with a bit of apple and a sliver of black pudding no real distinctive flavour ...

Twickenham, Modern British, Austin's Bar and Restaurant - Is this the same restaurant I visited recently? The bar and restaurant or as it is known locally "Austins," if so, then the previous visitors are very much mistaken. I have visited this restauarnt about 15-20 time since they opened and can honestly state that the service, food and atmosphere is without doubt the best in the area, or, as TimeOut said in the recent review, "A-grade everything." I know the owner, Tom, he is a very profesiso ...

I was amazed and hugely disappointed by the food at Austin's Bar. During a Sunday lunchtime in June we made the mistake of ordering roast pork and 'spring lamb'. Both arrived looking identical -- slices from a rolled and boned joint, the lamb extremely overdone, bathed in gravy (bisto?!), served with roast potatoes that had obviously been keeping hot in the bottom of the oven for several hours and served with hunks of swede (in June?!!). The standard was below the level of a £3.95 for all ...

Our overall experience at Austin's Bar and Restaurant was okay but the spectacle we witnessed towards the end of the evening means we will never go there again. We waited over half an hour for our drinks, 40 minutes for our starters (two of which were cold), and two drinks orders never materialised and had to be chased up. On talking to other diners, it appeared they had the same problems. The table of four next to us made a complaint to one of the owners after their main courses. They w ...
