The Sony RDR GX3 had to be repaired twice because it allways shows the message: "No disk".
    I'm tired of it.

In the very 1st. time I tried to use Sony RDR GX3, it failed, with this message: "NO DISK". After have it repaired, it worked well, but only for one week, and with the same message.

Code C1300 keeps appearing, this is a 13 month old machine that has only been very little used. This is a poor buy and Sony should be ashamed of this product

The Sony RDR GX3 is now well past its sell by date in the market. Can be slow plus no hard drive, so expensive for what it is, bought too early, at time of purchase it was a good item.

I had the 'disk dirty' problem that got progressively worse over the last few days. Since DVD lens cleaners should not be used on DVR's, I shot some bursts of compressed air into the unit (with the tray open) and my problem seems to be solved!

The Sony RDR GX3 has worked fine until three weeks ago. It then locked up with a DVD produced with Nero. E-mailed Sony - no reply! After reading comments showing that this is a very common problem. Disk is spinning, cannot be read, when switching off, says POWER OFF and stays in that state. Some said if you leave it overnight it will eventually release the disk. I tried leaving it for for hours, then I pressed the eject button and pulled at the disk tray front until the disk started making a noi ...

I also have had the same problem with the dvd recorder,
The dvd got stuck in drive and it wouldn't open or stay on so i sat down and thought for a mo and this is what i came up with.
I found out it was just the dvd rom drive that was the problem not the rest of the recorder so i took the dvd rom out and put it in my PC and the PC found it straight away thank god lol.
Ok now it was in i still had to find a way of opening it so i chose my nero smart start and this is wat i did...go to nero smar ...

Generally I was as frustrated as anyone with this product but I still use it. One thing that may have to be done is for everyone to buy a DVD cleaning kit which will clean the dusty lasers inside the machine and this may improve.
Also make sure your DVD Recorder is not blocked in a small cabinet or has other equipment such as a Satellite Receiver or VHS player on top as this may block any cooling vents for the DVD Recorder and could get too hot for it to function properly.

My Sony RDR GX3 stopped working after 26 months and a DVD got stuck. The display read power off and it kept restarting and restarting. Nothing works anymore. The eject codes do not work (eject, play, stop, or power, stop, forward and eject ) and neither does the inside ejection button. So it's the end of the line for this product. That may be okay for a cheap China made product but it was not a waste product, this was a precious buy and a top end of the market deal. I feel cheated by Sony. Won't ...

I had just got used to using my Sony RDR GX3 recorder and thought it was OK but today it refuses to switch on or off, just displays "power off" and nothing works. Tried powering it down over night but still the same. I think it's had it and that must be one of the most expensive 2 years hire yet! Does nothing last these days??

Here's a solution to the blank disc problem of the Sony RDR GX3 DVD recorder:

It seems to me that I'm not the only one who had trouble with this player.

It won't accept any new, unformatted, or PC formatted discs. So far I can still use discs formatted by the unit itself.

The solution that works for me (however troublesome) is...
Copy an earlier used disc (never mind the content) on the PC, using Nero or other DVD copy software.
Insert the disc into the Sony GX3 DVD recorder, and eras ...

My Sony RDR GX3 DVD recorder has ceased to read any DVD disks, including ones previously recorded by the unit itself. The really annoying part is that it lasted 366 days!

After a year of trouble free operation, just after the warranty ran out the Sony RDR GX3 unit started to go wrong. It won't read discs and comes up with C1300 Disc Dirty error all the time . The timer is malfunctioning and won't record, very annoying as I have missed some important programmes that I really needed to record.

As a Sony product very disappointing and obviously rushed out without proper testing to grab a piece of the fledgling DVD R market.

The best thing Sony can do is to ac ...

I thought I was unfortunate and had the bad luck to buy a lemon like the Sony RDR GX3 DVD recorder, but it seems I am not alone in my misery. Despite reading the user manual umpteen times, getting this machine to record was always a hit or miss affair. In fact it just does NOT do what it's designed to do on a regular basis. I say WAS a hit and miss affair, because after so many failures I have finally dumped it in the garage and cut my losses. I have always had Sony TV's - excellent, but thi ...

Nice machine to handle and no problems for 2 1/2 years now though not used it very much. Now suddenly its impossible to use DVD-RW / DVD+RW discs. An empty DVD-R / DVD+R is ok but all my recorded DVD-RW / DVD+RW and also my emty DVD-RW / DVD+RW suddenly became unreadable. After insert and the machine is checking it comes up with "ERROR" "CANNOT READ DISC" This is strange but from previous reviews I understand that this is a hugh problem with this machine - DO NOT BUY THIS

The Sony RDR GX3 is the most tempremental piece of technology I have ever come across. It was unreliable and irritated me constantly by not formatting disks when I needed it to and generally spitting out clean disks halfway through recordings or while halfway through a film. After only 18 months of use the unit broke down and would not load any disks at all. The price of the repair was more than I paid for the unit 18 months previously. I am rather glad as I didnt really want it back anyway. I w ...

Unreliable, you set the timer but the Sony RDR GX3 does not always record.
Unpredictably, some of the recorded DVDs become unreadable and you have to throw them away.
When used in conjunction with Sony TV via smartlink it is impossible to change the recording chanel on the DVD.
