“Reading all the terrible reviews the night before we...”

Written on: 14/11/2010

Reading all the terrible reviews the night before we left I got a bit worried, however, when we got there, I wondered if they were talking about the same hotel! I (16) travelled with my brother (10), my sister (12) and my mum. We were there for 2 weeks, arriving on 10/10/10

Our room - On arrival(about 7pm) We got given our all inclusive wristbands and had to fill out some forms then got taken straight up to our room which was not the cleanest but definitely not as dirty as some people say!... (read more)

I'm gonna start by saying that you shouldn't read these reviews; just go with an, open mind. I (17 year old girl) went with my 13 year old brother and our mum, and we actually dreaded leaving by the end.

Arriving, we found the reception staff welcoming, friendly and helpful; they gave us our inclusive bands and yellow cards, and told us to get a drink and wait until our room was ready. We were waiting a while, but a lot of people were arriving and you have to remember that there are still... (read more)

Written on: 26/03/2010 by PAYROLLER (1 review written)

We spent a six week holiday here in Jan.-Feb. 2010 having been at the Royal Kenz for each of the previous three years and got a little disappointed at falling standards and rising prices there.Having read some of the reviews on the Soviva we were a little apprehensive at what we might find, though we had spoken with another couple, who had also become disenchanted with the Kenz, and who having stayed at the Soviva, stated that while it was a little basic,it was OK. We took the view, that for... (read more)

“I want to be fair to Port El Kantaoui, Golden Soviva,...”

Written on: 20/04/2009 by traveller100 (1 review written)

I want to be fair to Port El Kantaoui, Golden Soviva, but the bottom line is I would not go back in a hurry.

Our room was so-so, if you don't mind cigarette burns in a badly fitted plastic sink and paint stains in a grubby bath. The beds were very hard. The balcony door did not lock properly, though it was probably safe. The view was pleasant, overlooking the deserted pool! Many of us had a dip, and even a slide (when slides were turned on on demand; they were not running according to the... (read more)

After visiting the Soviva in June/July, I can now say that all the bad reports on here are rubbish. I read the reports before going and was a little worried but once there, all my worries dissapered. The hotel was large but immaculate the staff were very friendly. Yes you have to queue for a drink ticket and drink but it is all the same queue, you dont have to join a queue then join another. They do this to speed the queues up and in my experience it was proved to work. After our first day... (read more)

The food! I thought the food looked okay and of what I ate it tasted fine, but after a couple of days I had major stomach cramps and was in bed for couple days. I do not know if it was the food but after that I was very wary and survived on melon and bread and the odd bit of freshly cooked chicken. The food was boring and the same thing every single day!
The hotel was clean and tidy; the staff were mostly nice. The pool was big and nice although there was a pathetic rush for sun beds at the... (read more)

We had a nightmare holiday at the Golden Soviva from day one. Rooms are about 200 metres from bars and restaurant and is not in covered access. In wet weather you are slipping everywhere. Corridors are dark with minimal lighting. Variety in the menu is lacking. Entertainment is fine if you are 7 years old and like the same six songs every night. Otherwise, take a board game or cards. Everyone was going to other hotels for the entertainment on the evenings. (read more)

We had a great holiday in Port El Kantaoui but will not return to the Golden Soviva due to the fact that the hotel next door was so much better. The Royal Kenz was far better and also 4 star. We spent a lot of time in there at night.
Taxis to Sousse should cost no more than 6 Dinar despite the fact they all ask for more.
Tunisia is a country where haggling over prices is expected, therefore the asking price is always higher.

Do not do the Pirate Ship sailing trip, as it is very poor indeed.... (read more)

Just back a few days from The Golden Soviva. It was a great holiday with exception to the hotel room. The staff were great, very courteous, extremely friendly and fun. The animation (entertainment) team were OK. Their evening shows were a little tedious, so beware of their definition of comedy, as it was painful! However, they did provide great entertainment during the day around the pool!!

When we stayed a new addition of Ukrainian Go Go dancers were added to the evening entertainment in... (read more)

Been to Club Soviva and Golden Soviva, and both times was absolutely amazing, went for my 18th birthday and all the staff that knew went out of their way to make it a great one. I got balloons round my table, a cake and all of that stuff you expect at a birthday, but when night time came all the bar staff got me a drink and I also got a number of drinks on the house anyway, I highly recommend this as a holiday for anyone. We did have a good holdiay due to the people we meet, but I wont be going back to the Golden Soviva. The staff do try their best and the food was ok the pancakes are to die for. For the price we paid for this holiday we did not get our moneys worth we could have gone to the Dominican Republic for the same price. The hotel doesnt make it clear what facilites you can use and what you can't so we just used any. Some of the snacks bars you have to pay in so be warned as they are not clearly... (read more)

The accomodation was abit on the small side! One room with a choice of 3/4 beds, a bathroom. Recommend you take your own towels, as they may not be replaced for days. Or the maid will leave you with half a dozen hand towels between 4 of you, leaving you no bath towels at all. Are airconditioning wasnt working and very noisy. The patio door was damaged and we couldnt open it. We only had our bedding changed once in 2 weeks. Although they made a lovely display of your pj,s often. The same could not be said for cleaning of the rooms. The people ie waiters were pleasant and security staff, though the receptionists were not that pleasant and were unhelpful. 7 out of 8 of us had food poisioning, the food was presented well but tastless. They cant cook chips. The pool was good for everyone, and clean. The animation team got people doing arobics in and out of the pool, a game of water polo or volleyball, french bowls. They were a great bunch of lads on the animation team, when visable. The evening entertainment doesnt kick of till 9ish, enduring kids disco till 10ish, agado do do do, musicman, okay cokey, bingo bongo. Then the show, if you haven't fallen asleep. Beach is awful, you can only go out afew feet and its full of seaweed. Parascending and banana boat riding and jet skying was good. Also the camel caravan and quad biking were great. Dont go to the local market, unless you want robbed, its all tat more like a jumble sale only worse. Do barter for things, ie souvenirs. There is one horrendous smell in nearby towns, the drains. Not to worry though as after the first week you will smell as bad. Hotel **
