The Sodastream works great, just like advertisement says. I have made seltzer for wine spritzers and loved it. The only drink I have tried so far is the diet cola. I was expecting that it would taste like Diet Coke or Diet Pepsi or even Refresh Cola from Safeway. No Luck!! This stuff was NASTY. It had an after taste that was bad and lingering. Luckily I just made 1 liter from the sample that came with the device. Try it before you buy it. (read more)

I tried the flavorings that are offered by Sodastream but was not impressed. So I was at the supermarket and thought I would try the newest thing out (Mio) or other water flavorings. These are small and have the ability to flavor a little or a lot. And at about $3.00 I get many more bottles for the money. So give them a try. They do not have (soda) flavors but you can get fruit, tea and many other varieties. I am quite happy with the Sodastream but wish the flavorings were a little... (read more)
“I really like the ease of making the flavored water ”

I really like the ease of making my own flavored carbonated water. I also like not having so many bottles to recycle from bottled soft drinks and flavored water. It is economical also, cheaper than sodas and flavored waters. My only question is: I have installed my second CO2 canister. When filling a new water bottle there is no 'loud buzz" as is supposed to happen. Anyone...any idea why? (read more)

I like water and also the carbonation of a coke hitting the back of my throat. I started cardio and riding my racer bike (50 miles 2 days a week). The flavors are too sweet and it has a funny taste if you drink the cabonated water without flavor. Tried Crystal Light with it but there is still a funny taste. Am I the only one that's noticed this? (read more)

I have tried using less flavor and sometimes it helps.The regular coke taste like diet coke to me.I find it hard to determine the exact amount of flavor to use,and the exact amount of carbarnation. This should come with better instructions.This is made the same way that is done at a fast food resturant and it is hard to get the right mixture.

I have had my sodastream for a year. At first it worked great. But after a year it has gotten so that it doesnt always work well. After putting in the latest carbonator I have been having trouble with the o-ring not sealing properly. It does save money, but it is a pain to get fixed. A lot of things, like the o-ring the company expects you to fix yourself. Not very good customer service or support. But the machine is handy to have and does save a lot of money. I have pop drinkers in my house and this is just great for us! I am saving big, and reducing the sugar intake for my little people as well as myself. “great product but”

Once in a while you can't find refills locally. Sodastream is sold at Kohl's along with flavors, but enjoy it for a brief time because they don't sell the refills. Unbelievable. I don't need to go to Kohl's again for anything. I normally get refills at Bed Bath & Beyond but of course they were out of refills. How does a store run out of refills? Don't they want to make future sales? (read more)

My kids give the machine 5 stars, but the flavorings two stars. I hesitated to buy the machine because of the flavorings having sucralose and acesulfame sweetners in them (splenda in the diet flavors). I didn't want my kids drinking that. At least I know what sugar is. We use it mainly to carbonate the water, filling the bottle below the line 4 oz, and then adding 4 oz of syrup made with Kool-Aid and sugar after carbonating. Received my soday stream as a gift for Mother's Day. We love it. Save alot of money instead of buying sparkling water we use this. We do not use the flavors but I have tried them and think they are too sweet. I do not use the entire small samples when I use it. I use maybe half and it is sweet enough. I really love our new SodaStream, I am so excited about it that I am telling all my friends!! I bought my father-in-law one for Fathers Day and I felt like a sales person for SodaStream while demostrating to him how easy it was to use!! We live on the 3rd floor and I cannot carry more than two bottles of anything at a time up those stairs!! It saves money and wear and tear one me!!! Love it love it love it!!

“missing gasket”

We bought the kit a few weeks ago and a package of extra bottles. One of the bottles in the package was missing the gasket. I emailed the company to see if the could send a replacement gasket. Within 20 minutes a rep called and said they do not have extra gaskets to send. She asked the color of the top and said they would send out the 2 bottle package as replacement. When using Soda Stream Tip the bottle at a 45 degree angle when pouring in syrup after the carbonation process. Do not sit bottle upright until you put the bottles (cap) on tightly at a 45 degree angle. Then put the bottle upright. I never spill my soda... ever. Make sure to pull bottle's (base)... forward... to release carbon dioxide pressure off of the system... before unscrewing bottle from machine after carbonating the bottle. I got one of these for christmas and the little one loves using it. It's cheaper tha buying coke etc from the shop and as there are loads of flavours you dont just end up drinking cole or lemonade all the time. Also its helped me out twice in drinking emergencies. 1. I bought my machine for about $100 and also bought some flavors, some extra bottles, etc... Got it home and opened the box to the machine. It comes with a sample pack of some common flavors. ALL the sample flavors have the main sweetener as Splenda. I HATE splenda. Even the "regular" non-diet flavors are sweetened with this stuff. i bought mine from macys, which was a very bad idea, because they charge 30$ more than the actual company does, (which i didnt have to pay because of a coupon) and 2 of the sample flavors were ripped open and partially dried out, coating the inside of the box and the other samples with sticky syrup. other than that, the actual machine works perfectly. however, once you have to get the co2 bottle refilled, its a nightmare. they charge WAY WAY WAY too much to refill them, and the valve is... Initially I was quite excited after watching many glowing reviews. I spend over $60 on soda a month. Soda stream is a lot cheaper. I made a orange soda. I almost gagged over the taste! Although I like making our own seltzer, we have not gotten 60 liters out of one carbonator. Maybe 25 to 30 at most. That takes away the economic argument. But it is nice not to lug cans and bottles from the store and we are drinking more. I just feel a little betrayed by the promise of 60 liters. (read more)

Oh my god - mine has done the same!! I have been trying to get through to soda stream but they don't answer their phones. I am just about to write an email to complain. It's interesting to see that it's not just mine. The soda stream is clearly NOT fit for purpose. My disappointment is with their customer service though. I will let you know the outcome as soon as they reply to their calls or emails.

Yes, clearly the base of the bottle was at fault. Just be careful, take great care of the bottles, ie wash only in warm water, and make sure you replace them wen suggested on 'use by' (very faintly printed) on bottles.

I bought a soda stream machine in September. I bought the model with the optional fizz chip which cost more than the basic model. When I got it home I found that the fizz chip didnt work and called the company immediately. I was assured they would send a replacement fizz chip out. I am glad I took the time to read the review. I was considering getting one. I read a review someone had one since the 80's. I just recently started hearing about this and it peaked my interest. I have had the very same problems. But, I desided to forget about the buzz (which never happens,) and I give 4 pumps. The soda turns out great! For the model I purchased, you must slant the bottle, turn to attach, 4 pumps, slant the bottle to unscrew off the machine.

You absolutely have to hold the soda bottle at an almost 45 degree angle while filling the bottle with syrup. Do not put the bottle up-right until you screw the cap on the bottle at a 45 degree angle.
If you follow this advice....the soda will never spill.
Open the bottle slowly at first after rotating the bottle over and over again to mix in the syrups.
My soda never spills as long as I hold the bottle at a 45 degree angle... and put the cap on... before I put the bottle up-right.

I was very hesitant to purchase this machine due to the cost, and the fact that it looked like it was made out of plastic.
The quality is high for being made of plastic, and although I haven't had the machine for very long it seems very well made. I drink a TON of seltzer, and this is definitely saving me disposing of plastic bottles. I do 6 loud buzzes, and this seems to be super-carbonated enough to last me a full day at work.
I love this machine, and would recommend it personally.

We were disappointed at first the water didn't get very bubbly. My husband decided to "give'r" and carbonate away. It was only then that we discovered the real "buzz" sound. If you are having problems just hold it down. I don't know yet if it is just starting a new cartridge issue but we are now really happy and making seltzer every night. (read more)

My take on this machine is that its easy to use and saves a lot of trash that goes out house. Its easy to operate. Just chill the bottle to the line. Screw it up the bottle connector. Press down on the button still you hear it "Burp"
and then unscrew. You will hear the pressure relief and some water over flow.
Add the syrup of your choice. NOW thats where it gets dicey. Some flavors will
seem not enough where as some may seem way too sugary. Your palette will determine your opinion of these...

I bought the sodastream about two months ago and I did not expect too much of this machine. My husband loves his cola and he is very picky about the'real" thing. Well, surprise , surprise , I made the mix for him expecting a lot of complaining about the quality of the cola, but I did hear anything. While the concept and functions are great, I am a little disappointed with how fast the seltzer gets. I called customer service and they recommended that I remove the gas canister and remove the rubber bushing and replace the unit back. The seltzer was better, but after using the Soda Stream a week later, I have the same problem (read more)

I'm inpressed. The taste of the soda it makes is incredible. I'm a pepsi lover. Iv'e been one for years. This product tastes as good if not better than Pepsi or Coke. I don't miss either one. I like the machine - it works fine, doesn't take up much room. But that's as far as it goes. It's fine if you just want to make seltzer. I have been buying seltzer and making my own syrups for a while now, because regular soda is just too sweet for me. But I bought this system because I thought we'd save money in the long run.
Not so. The syrups that Sodastream sells may be inexpensive enough, but they all contain sucralose, which I can't stand. Other syrups have been both disappointing and...

I got Soda Stream as a Christmas present and it took a little trial & error to make the perfect diet cola but now I make perfect diet cola every time! When first making the diet cola, I filled the syrup to the line in the cap (aprox. 1.5 oz) and it was pretty good but had a little after taste. I went on line for help and it seemed most people said add more - fill the cap. We tried that and it still had an after taste. So I decided to try less (1 oz) and WOW! Perfect diet cola!!!! Makes perfect sparkling water instantly. When added to juice, it makes the juice "sparkle", too. It is a little nicer than adding ginger ale to cranberry juice and adds no sugar. I personally don't like straight sparkling water, but a bit of flavoring, lemon juice or whatever turns it into a nice drink. I think this device will cure me of drinking cola. (read more)

I got the Genesis Sodastream as a Christmas present because I had been eyeing it for quite some time. I drink a lot of diet soda, but I'm not partial to any particular brand, so I think that this is a great product for me. My husband compares the taste to fountain sodas. there is a trick to it:
1: Fill the bottle to the line with water
2: Add 5 or 6 pumps of the sodastream
3: Tilt the bottle as you would do when poring a pint then slowley poor in the concentrate.
4: Screw the lid on and shake.
5: Put in the fridge to get nice and cold.
6: after 30 mins open and enjoy!.
