Owned a 02 for the past 6 years. Bar changing to a facet petrol pump no other problems. Great machine. Seat isn't as bad as claimed, did 500 miles a day in France to get to the south. Won't set the world alight performance wise but that isn't the point. Handling fine but don't forget to leave the chain a bit slacker than recommended. Nothing bad bar the weight really. Can't understand why Honda didn't stick with the bike and update it. (read more)

Have enjoyed riding all over Japan, although more of a week-end rider as living close to work-place. A bit breathless, as you might expect, going up some of the higher mountain roads (especially with a passenger and an air filter that needs replacing), but generally lots of low-down torque and a reasonable top speed. Fuel line problem only now beginning to be an issue and will be fixed tomorrow! Otherwise, no other major issues; regular servicing and a well-lubed chain have given tens of... (read more)

Bought my XRV 750 RD07A from a friend last January 2011 after he'd owned it from 2002. It only had 14,000 miles on the clock. I always loved the look f the AT and sold my MY00 BMW R1150GS to buy it. Loved it from the word go. Light and fun to ride and perfect for driving in the city. In the time I owned it I only carried out standard service maintenance. I did and complete the IBA SS1000 figure of 8 around Ireland on it which is covering 1000 miles in 24hrs. Standard saddle, Standard bike.... (read more)

Fantastic bike...I've been all around Britain and Ireland and the only problem has been with the fuel pump. I'm 6 foot and find the seating position perfect. Lovely, gutsy engine and good fairing. Comfortable for a pillion passenger. For me, the perfect bike (read more)

HONDA XRV 2001.
I only ride this bike around London 6 days a week. 38k miles and standard servicing by myself, valves checked at 36k, no problems with them. I've had a variety of bikes from an original Z1 though ZX6's to Ducatis. By comparison, this bike handles like a chocolate fireguard, but ultra reliable and fun to ride.
Bad points: the brake discs wear down alarmingly quick. That's all so far.
The bike is best suited for someone 6 foot tall, I'm 5' 10" and 72kgs. It took a few months...

ruling out the fuel pomp which ticks off after several rounds of fuel run outs....and the seat which is incompatible with human anatomy...the most optimal machine ever built!

Up till now 114.500 KM and evry day + 110 KM. Service; evry 30.000 KM (begin 26.000 KM) the whole lot (oil, filters, cian, tires (michelin anakee !) etc.). Repairs till now; yes the fuelpump (102.400 KM) and clutchkabel (112.000 KM). Repairs made becourse it was not working 100% but still working.
Drive since 1986 and have serveral bikes but the XRV I simply love. Not only becourse it is a strong bike but it gives a perfect drive position and is very forgiving. A good frend to go to work with...

Te Africa Twin has to be the best bike I've owned since passing my test 20 years ago. Nothing has gone wrong with it and the only parts I've had to buy have been due to wear and tear or for cosmetic reasons. The riding position is great, it's more upright than sports bikes and higher than tourers. This gives me the confidence in it's handling that I just did not have with my previous sports and sport-touring motorcycleas.
The engine sounds lovely, being a V-twin, and although it's not the...

I found this review helpful because...I'm about to buy an 02 Africa Twin to replace a BMW 1150 GS Adventure. No I'm not insane, I've had problems with the GS and the BMW's aftersales is crap. So far all the reviews I've read for the Honda have been mega positive. What the reviews don't metion though is the availability of aftersales parts. Like spotlights panniers crashbars etc. Other than that the bike looks like it could take a direct hit from an exorcet missile.!

This bike is genuinely bomb-proof and capable of going almost anywhere. It now has iconic status and a cult following. it's the best bike I've ever owned (and mine is a '93 K plate) I also have a '55 plate TDM and it barely gets ridden, as the AT is just so good. (read more)

Always wanted one then brought this bike in New Zealand from a guy who brought it in from the UK. I did just what you need for a long trip, lower that a ktm adventurer and a better ride I meet a couple of guys on my trip and they both were on ktms and once they sat on the Honda they liked the riding position much better. This Honda XRV750 Africa Twin bike is awesome. I have done 13,000Km in 4 months on and off road in New Zealand and this bike has not missed a beat. Now has 73,000km. Oil changed every 5000km. Sweet running. Mitas E-07 tyres (good in all conditions except boggy wet mud). Adventure panniers, Givi topbox. Cruises very well at 100kph (NZ legal maximum) but sits easily at 125kph all day.
Off road, it is more capable than you would think. Okay, it is 207kg dry, but keep it upright and you can do...
