“Rubbish hosting company”

Written on: 04/10/2014 by rohowo (1 review written)

Extremely disappointed with the hosting service, site has been up and down like a yo-yo. Unable to login to the plesk control panel on several occasions. Asked for complaint departments contact details and was fobbed off with having to email the same support team I wanted to complain about. Service poor, support poor. I will never use them and will be recommending to client they move to a different hosting company. Shame I don't like writing reviews like this but sometimes the truth hurts… Read Full Review

“Terrible Service”

Written on: 19/02/2014

I have had a few dealings with data flame over the past couple of months and trying to get a straight answer out of the support team is like pulling teeth. You sit on hold with a support rep on chat and then it goes silent for about 5 mins you wait they say they are still there and then you wait another 5 mins this keep going on until you give up and leave the chat. “Business practices should be investigated”

Written on: 16/02/2014 by kinglouiethe6th (3 reviews written)

Changing policy as they please meaning customers have the terms of their contract changed without notification. Charging £15 to take a domain away from their service preventing fair competition. Limiting email to 150 emails per hour while advertising unlimited email addresses (that will work). Customer services don't answer your questions, they just quote company policy; the true mark of dishonesty. I dare say a lot of these companies do the same, seems the greedy brigade have taken over. “Absolutely horrendous!!!”

Written on: 02/10/2013 by scottp99 (1 review written)

Absolutely horrendous!!! I paid for a year and cancelled after a month. they refused to refund me the other 11 months worth of payment which I had already given them. The security was so bad that I had to delete all my sites. Support was also terrible. They don't have a clue what they are doing and they are very slow. Scott Pringle PHP Developer… Read Full Review

Dflame's Response to scottp99's Review

Written on: 06/10/2013

Hello Scott,

I am sorry you are not happy with the service.

However the problems came from plug ins/scripts used within your own sites. While we can impose security policies, we cannot put 'blanket' policies on a shared server.

If a plug-in script that has been installed is out of date or has its own back door, then you are risking entry to your files.

Unfortunately as we do not make the software or plug ins you choose to install we are not able to vet this.

We always recommend making sure all software is kept up to date at all times.

It is important to note, that only your 'own' data was subject to problems, as it is not possible for any other client to access any other clients information.

I found one of the scripts had been changed to root user and group. This could only have been one of the technical support team. It shouldn't have been left on my account with these permissions as I don't have root access.

The fact that an a attacker can infect 5 websites from one out of date plugin makes the hosting useless. In future I'll manage my own hosting where I can get SSH root access and set it up properly.

Hello Scott,

A file would have had its permissions and owernship changed by us, if 'found' to be compromised, thus stopping any further access to it.

ie this would have been done 'after' the event, not before.

This is done to stop any further problems occurring.

“Shared hosting limits server capacity”

Written on: 19/09/2013 by mpat9 (1 review written)

Used for 8 years. Recently they are hosting so many websites on a shared server that performance is reduced. I have lots of CPU limts each day for a small site. Support was terrible and tried to blame me. I have since moved my commercial site to rochen and have not had a single time out with the same site. I now need to move my other non commercial sites to another host. Poor hosting and poor support… Read Full Review

Hello,

I am sorry you fell this was a problem caused by Dataflame.
However your site was creating a massive load on the server at random times.

We have informed you of this, with logs, over a period of time.
As it is a shared server, we cannot let one use disrupt the performance of a server.

We had tried to work with you, but unfortunately on this occasion this was not possible.

CPU limits and 150 emails an hour limit, don't they know it's the 21 century? They are living in the 19th and also charge you £15 a domain to leave them, time that was sorted as it is surely a breach of competition laws.

“Terrible hosting, avoid”

Written on: 01/09/2013

Their cPanel has bugs, last one meant that my site was down for 3 weeks without me noticing. They never answer the phone - even for sales calls it just rings and rings and you get a message telling you to use the online web chat. The online web chat is useless. It take ages for someone to answer and then they aren't very helpful. AVOID!… Read Full Review

“Sharks! Steer well clear!”

Written on: 27/04/2013

I've been a Dataflame customer for many years now and today I decided my domains required Whois privacy. Dataflame charge £15 + vat per domain which is cost prohibitive for multiple domains, so I made the hard choice to find a new registrar who offered free Whois privacy. I then logged into my Dataflame client area to unlock my domains for transfer but couldn't see a way to do that. Using their awesome online chat I asked their support how unlock domains and they provided me with a URL for… Read Full Review

“What a poor excuse for a hosting provider”

Written on: 07/10/2011 by stardog32 (18 reviews written)

We've been with Dataflame for 12 months (ASP.NET Elite Package), and what an appalling hosting provider they are. Cheap? Yes, as for everything else, NO! The support team consists of Simon, Adam and so many other great English names, strange then that they struggle to string the simplest sentence together. They constantly fiddle with server settings and our website spends most of its life living as a 404 NOT FOUND error. Ask their support anything technical and they have no clue what your on… Read Full Review

“Really gone down hill...”

Written on: 18/07/2011

Dataflame used to be a good host but I have since had to leave them due to the quality of their support. They're fine on basic tech stuff but they are useless at anything that is even remotely taxing. In my last talk with live chat I had to wait about 5 minutes for each of their responses which never equalled more than 10 words. I am currently in dispute with them as they took money out of my bank via debit card even though I cancelled my hosting with them 3 months ago. I emailed their… Read Full Review

“I really wanted to write a good review for Dataflame....”

Written on: 12/10/2010

I really wanted to write a good review for Dataflame. Tell you that they were great getting things set up, helping me out with activating accounts. Transferring databases and information from one account to another. They were great for that, and was impressed.

That lasted about 3 months. Then my server slowed up, bandwidth issues. Then emails stopped working, sometimes for 2 days.

Then the last 3 weeks... All my websites (12 of them, some important client ones) went down for 3 days. I… Read Full Review

Nothing but issues with the server being unavailible (dedicated server) - support are extremely poor spent 50 mins on the live support waiting for a response only to be told we are still investigating

fine if you want a home site that does not need 24/7 uptime, i accept sometimes things go wrong but £200 a month for a extremely poor service is not accetable IMHO

as soon a i can i will transfer all my hosting to another provider with proper support… Read Full Review

I was happy when I first used them, but they have gone way down hill since then.

Support is rubbish. They simply stop responding to support requests when they feel like it.

Terribly slow servers. They blamed my ISP for slow page loading times! Seriously insulting to my intelligence to be told that BS!

I have spent literally hours this weekend trying to get the message ACCOUNT SUSPENDED from our website. Dataflame have our payment details, and they are clearly correct on the client portal. However they havent processed the agreement details correctly at their end, there is plenty headroom on our card and that was confirmed by the bank and despite having spoken to Dataflame on the hopeless live support AND on the telephone. I would like to inform people not to use this rude and ignorant company, The sign up process was smooth and on receiving ssh log in details I found I was unable to ssh in, shortly after I received an abuse report from dataflame telling me I was trying to brute force my way into other people's servers!

So in short the sold me a pre-compromised VPS then blamed me that a server I had no access to was trying to ssh its way into other servers.

Do NOT use this company!… Read Full Review

I migrated to Dataflame in Oct 09 after reading good reviews on the web (must have missed this site).

I have had problem after problem with them and there technical support is useless. I took them 2hrs to understand the you get a delivery failure if you email a hosted account...

Their prices and products are good, but its not worth it. Don't go with dataflame.

I have been with dataflame for seven years and up until the last 24 months I always thought they were great. Little down time and ok on support. NOW my mind has been changed! I hope they go out of business as fast as possible. You would be better off throwing your money out the window and banging your head on the wall than wait for their response and dealing with their business practices. I just spent 50 minutes on a live chat that had an average 4 minute response for each SIMPLE question. They… Read Full Review

Written on: 23/10/2009

Beware of signing up with Dataflame because getting out is costly, also their technical support is appalling.

Their online technical support usually consists of responses taken from a manual. They are unable to solve any problems not in their manual. In one case our website had been attacked with a virus, which meant that the site was blocked by Google Chrome. They did not even bother investigating the virus or suggesting ways to deal with the virus (which I found on the Internet in 2… Read Full Review
