    Good Points: Very sharp
    Reasonable sound
Relatively low heightof stand tv combo

Bad Points: Smearing on screen makes tv a very bad choice

General comments: Purchased my Philips 36PW9308 widescreen tv through Currys web site on basis that I'd have more redress from a High Street name than from an anonymous etailer given patch review of Philips products. Redress needed.

Save for the problem of a smeary screen, this TV is superb. On animated features, eg Finding Nemo, the picture has a transluscent 3-d quality. There is enough adjustment to make it work very well with other material. Its as good a picture as you could hope for and the range of adjustments allow you to get it spot on. There is some shimmer/pixellation on narrow lines as the picture moves eg white lines on sports pitches, but it's not so irritating as to spoil the view.

You need to sit a fair distance to watch the picture as, up-close, it looks blocky. This is definitely not the TV to buy for a small room.

Sound is perfectly adequate if you don't need a surround set. I'm more than happy with it.

Mine is ruined by what appears to be internal smearing on the screen. On detailed images you simply don't see it; but on bland images eg rugby pitch or even large sky shots in golf where there is slow movement on the picture, eg panning, the effect is that the picture appears to move behind smears on the inside of the screen. To make the matter more comprehensible: think about smearing a thin layer of yoghurt on the front of the screen and watching the picutre move behind it and you will get the idea.

I am currently in the process of trying to persuade Currys to take mine back and replace it. They say that it is working properly. If it is, this TV is not worth buying because of the smear problem. The star ratings are given on the basis that it is not faulty and should perform as it actually does.
