Newreg have a very simply business model - advertise registration marks claiming that they are cheaper than the DVLA and then seriously rip people off when they actually try to use the plate. They force you to buy the physical number plates, even though you may not want them however that's not the biggest problem... If you don't asign the plate to a car within 12 months, they charge you £80 to extend the entitlement for another 12, despite the fact that the DVLA only charge £25. Avoid at... (read more)

They Are not cheaper than dvla as they have extra charges and make you buy number plates wether you need or require them or not and if you try to cancell they keep 10% of your payment and claim its non refundable even though dvla state as below .. All to advise is from dealing with once i wouldnt use them again personally i would go direct to dvla who would of cost less for me even though new reg said they were cheaper before i bought from them dvla have ,no hidden costs dont make you buy... Bought a reg of this outfit a 3 years ago for my daughter for £650, but was unable to put it on her car due to it be older than the reg plate year number and you cannot make an old car look newer by the plate. So until I put it on a car I am charged £80 per year. (read more)

Bought a plate from this shower 3 weeks ago never again.
They seem to tell you what they think you want to hear and then let you down by saying they have advised you that it will take 30 days.I bought a plate that was not on any car and paid an extra £26 to speed it through but, what a waste of money.I made a mistake by placing the owners name on the log book instead of my own as, i had just bought the car and they charged me another £80 on top of the £80 i had already paid and on top of the £26 i had paid for the speedy service being a total of £186 for transfer costs and after 3 weeks still no reg papers and i am now told it will take another 30 days.
I was never informed over 4 phone calls with New Reg of the delays so, they may be cheaper but, its not worth it.
Buy from another company not New Reg.

Still waitimng after 2 weeks for the plates come through! I decided not to use the company to do the administration work as they were taking so long and needed to get the plate sorted for my girlfriends birthday but when i asked for the £26 administration fee to be refunded as they were not going to be doing any of the work, the woman replied, "well no becuase you asked for it in the first place". My reg transfer happened in under ten days and I am please with it. They were the only ones to offer my number plate for sale, DVLA and other reg companies said 'call for price' or it is not available at all. I have also ordered a number plate from them, the quality of it is rubbish as it has air bubbles under the skin, the number is skewed on the vinyl plate, the post code is not readable on the rear plate . . . the last makes by number plate unusable. I recently fell for the trick by this company and ordered a registration from them, only to be forced to by the physical plates because they guarantee to be cheaper than DVLA. Then realised they charge you extra for paying by credit card. So in reality they are not cheaper than going direct with DVLA!!! Total Newreg cost was £438. Didnt put the reg on my car within a year... DVLA state on the V750 it will cost 25 pounds to extend the entitlement... but as I bught through NewReg, I am merely the Nominee and not the official 'Purchaser'. Therefore I have to send an 82 pound cheque to NewReg for them to do exactly the same! Crooks! (read more)

New Reg terms and conditions which are online available to read before customers buy do state that buyers should assign numbers before the V750 expires.
We do offer an extension service if this cannot be done but charge an administration fee as do many other cherished number dealers.

New Reg cannot be held responsible for errors made by buyers. Our terms do state this:
Under the Distance Selling Regulations The Company must notify you that the service we provide begins as soon as The Registration Mark is reserved on your behalf, subsequently there is no 'cooling off period', the transaction cannot be reversed and no refund can be given.

Also we would only ever terminate a call if the caller was abusive.

Company name should be changed to "hidden charges". Plate was advertised for £169, ended up paying £285 for the entitlement. However they remain the purchaser so they have full control. Bought a private plate through newreg, communicaiton was dreadful. Received an initial email telling me a second email would follow with details of next steps, it never came. I managed to figure it out. Heard nothing from them for weeks and weeks tried contacting them but was directed to a £1 a minute number opened for four hours a day! So Many hidden costs. They charge an extra £57.00 just for renewal and when asked they said "this is for all the letters we've sent you". I've only ever received about 3 letters from them. I do not understand how this costs them £57.00. There are many other hidden costs associated with buying from this company. They make sure they still own the plate and make you a "nominee" only, even though you bought the plate outright. I would seriously avoid buying from this company unless you buy... (read more)

The reason New Reg stay as the "purchaser" on the certificate is because DVLA do not offer a facility to change this.
This is why clause 24 of our terms and conditions states that "If The Registration Mark you are purchasing is a previously 'unissued number'; it must be assigned within 11 months of purchase to a vehicle in the name specified as the nominee."
We offer an extension service if this is not possible but charge an administration fee as do many other cherished number dealers.

Absolutely awful company, when I wanted to change the nominee details, they charged me £82.00 (it states in black and white on the V750 form that the DVLA charge £25). £57 to do 2 minutes work is an absolute rip off, I tried to do it online (literately 2 minutes work), I couldn't as an account for the number plate was already on there. If The Registration Mark you are purchasing is a previously 'unissued number'; the name of the person or company in whose name the vehicle is to be registered shall be specified as the nominee. These details can be added to or changed later for an administration charge of £82.00 payable to The Company. DVLA will not accept an application by The Purchaser to amend the document.

I would avoid these people if possible. The world of number plates lies amongst the bottom feeders of the motoring world anyway, and this lot don't do anything to improve that image. The staff are generally abusive and unhelpful. I bought my wife a number plate for Christmas and started the process in November and foolishly opted to have them provide the plates to save time. I was a bit dubious about buying the plate as I thought you could only trust the DVLA and what with the address being a P.O box address I was concerned. They wanted proof of Identity and so I sent them an email asking what ID they wanted and they replied with 'Ring our premium rate number'. I can't believe that anybody has ever been this happy with their service...
Newreg are trying to trick people into using them so that they can then completely rip you off with hidden charges for retention period extensions etc. Use the DVLA directly...
