I purchased the Sony KP-51HW40 in 2003 with price of $2500. Within two years was having flickering problems. By paying heavy repairing cost to sony service dealer i got it fixed and again am having problems of red lines and red pictures. I tried to adjust red knobs to remove lines but still problems continues after few seconds. I am frustrated now. I dont want to pay more than $ 200 to fix it again. I would appreciate if some show me the way to resolve this problems., But hence forth i will not ...- Read rspp's review (129 words)

We bought the TV in 2002. It is now 2008. It has had light rainbow lines in it for over a year now. It now shuts itself off. I am told the tubes need to be replaced but that they are no longer manufactured. I will be taking the TV to the Garbage dump. Not a good deal for only 6 years of use.- Read Guest's review (61 words)

Same problem with SONY rear projection TV. Have owned for a few years, warranty expired. A few months after expiration changed Blue CRT to the tune of $500. A few months later changed convergence panel to the tune of $500. This past Saturday TV went red and popped. Was told red and green CRT needed to be replaced but SONY no longer has them. TV tech can order rebuild from California for $1,000. I will never ever buy SONY products as long as I live. Each time I called SONY I got some clueless rep ...- Read Dani23's review (140 words)

Let's see... when I bought this TV new in 2002, it cost me three grand. At the time, the salesperson BEGGED and pleaded with me to get the extended warranty. I generally don't purchase an extended warranty with anything, so I opted out. The guy wouldn't hear of it, and he actually ended up giving me the warranty for 3 years. That should have been my first indication that something was wrong. We then went through 5 tubes in the span of 3 years, which I thought to be ridiculous. The TV require ...- Read jfraga's review (292 words)

I have a Sony KP51HW40. Started seeing red lines on TV about a week ago. Now the TV turns on for 5 seconds and then the picture turns red. Tech said that CRT is bad and I'm out of luck. I have been reading about this TV for two days and I am appalled by what Sony has been doing to it's customers. I don't even know if it is worth my time trying to call Sony as no one else has seemed to be able to get anywhere with them. Too bad because I thought Sony had great customer support. I was wrong. I ho ...- Read Hvacman's review (164 words and 1 comment)

Sony support SUCKS. I called Sony and spoke with customer service from Ft. Myers FL and explained my problem in that the product was defective. Also asked to speak with a manager and was told NO. Asked for corporate address, they said NO. I asked them for their address they said NO. Now keep in mind this is SONY we're talking about. Since they were stonewalling me I asked when I should expect a response from Sony. He said that they'll review my file and should call me back. SHOULD!

For a $2500 item to go bad in 4 years is terrible. Sony were aware of this issue with the Sony KP51HW40 rear projection TV, yet offered no resolve. Cost to repair out of my pocket would be $850. Sorry Sony, but you have lost a customer.- Read tep's review (79 words)

Sony has for me been a name that I could trust. I have given Sony my business for years but to be honest my previous Sony TV died just after the warranty expired and I chalked it up to an exception and purchased the Sony KP-51HW40. It had the wide screen format coupled with a home theatre sound system provided a enjoyable alternative to going to the cinema.
After 3 years red horizontal lines appeared and the TV started to auto shut off. The technician advised that the red crt needed to be rep ...- Read Dave2497's review (146 words)

My Sony KP-51HW40 Rear Projection TV was very good until the picture started flashing, and the TV would then cut off by itself. The service techs said 2 picture tubes were bad. The TV was of course out of warranty, and Sony refused to help with repair or part costs, which were $700. The TV cost about $2500.00. That's +$800.00/year to watch a TV that I have to spend $700 on in the third year. This is ridiculous. No more Sony for me.- Read diamond1's review (95 words)

Loved this Sony KP51HW40 Rear Projection Television, but...
After 2 years where we watch CNN about a third of the time, the little CNN logo in the lower left is noticably burned into the screen. (Visible when any bright solid colour occupies that area of the screen.)
You would think that "burn" would not be a problem in the 21st century, but it is. No more CNN, and I won't buy a Sony next time...- Read nightwing's review (82 words)
