A friend gave me a box of the 22 cal Prometheus pellets, I decided to see how a fired 17 grain bullet would work in a 218 Bee, previous experiments with other pellets only proved how serious lead bore fouling could get. I hoped that the plastic sabot would prevent that and it seems to, or at least I didn't get any plastic fouling in my barrel after about 25 rounds fired. I used small rifle primers with 4 grains of WW-452AA powder to produce about 2800 fps in my Ruger # 1 rifle. This was... (read more)

These pellets work on 2 principles the first being if the mass of the pellet (M) is reduced the acceleration (a) of the pellet from rest, initial velocity (u=0fps) to final velocity (v=aprox 850fps) if the time and force exerted on the pellet remains constant, for a lead pellet (u=aprox 750fps) so the first principle is the huge velocity the pellet hits at.
The second it that the pellet is a 2 stage (metal tip with polymer sabo), on impact the sabo gets stuck in the first median and the...

Prometheus .177 pellets are pretty good, they penetrate much deeper in to harder surfaces than the pellets I have tried. The one main downside is that they dont fit in yo co2 handguns but thats not reall here nor there. They are great pellets. (read more)

I don't know how but I got suckered into buying these by a friend I thought I'd give them a spin anyway I zeroed my scope in and tried a few targets there okay at about 10 feet but after that there very inaccurate my shot grouping at 50 yards was nearly 6 inch with 3 or 4 missing the target altogether
hunting didn't go much better it takes twice as many pellets to put down anything bigger than a household fly in the end I threw them in the bin even though the tub wasn't even half empty

I have a Gamo CFX, and with a bit of gun oil behind the pellet, I achieve supersonic speed.

I got suckered in to buying the Prometheus .177 and made a mess of my barrel, grouping was ok at first at 20yrds but after a while went real bad. Penetration out of my spring air rifle was only good at close range due to their light weight. There are some better brands of non lead pellets on the market (read more)

I have switched from lead pellets to Prometheus and will not be looking back. Once the scope was resighted, due to better/flatter trajectory, it was time to start thinning out the tree rats and groundhogs that run amuck on my property. Prometheus pellets are deadly - routinely producing one shot kills even on tough-skinned groundhogs. (read more)

Only the PPP1 will fit the CO2 magazines on all the auto pistols clones, all others are too long except for the Smith and Wesson which will takes the PCP1.

I'm 99.9% sure that they won't. Plus. I wouldn't risk ruining the barrel, if it's rifled.

I have bought a box of these Prometheus .177 pellets as I was finding it a bit of a drag shooting rats at between 15-20 meters and the little buggers running off with a bruise or two. Yes I have a cheap gun but it is only for rats so looked around for better pellets. I spent half an hour resetting my sights but what a difference these made, a kill every time. If you need a good hard hitting pellet for vermin then this is the one, for longer distance shooting I have no idea apart from one... (read more)

I purchased both the Prometheus .177 and Prometheus .22 out of curiosity. Fired both through 5 or 6 different guns from high end PCP's to Entry Level Co2 guns. At 25 yards with guns I can keep atleast a 1" group with any standard pellet, I found the best I could get with the Prometheus was 4" groups. Now I can say I have first hand experience in how they have earned their poor reputation. (read more)

You have used them in the wrong guns. Check out www.airgunpellets.com and you will find that the two part Prometheus pellets are not designed for bolt/probe loading air rifles.
Better to have used the Prometheus Dynamic range of lead-free pellets, where there should be a model to suit most air rifles.

I purchased a box of .177 Prometheus pellets (yellow jacket), and was very pleased with the build and overall perceived quality of the pellet. The long, bullet shaped pellet resembles a miniature round (bullet and cartridge). The 6 grain weight is just a bit too light for my taste. I proceeded to load one in my Cabanas Varmint rifle (uses blank cartridges instead of air; develops over 1,200fps) with the more powerful of the two cartridges available here (Mexico) and shot at a phonebook... Here I am with additional testing of the Prometheus .177 pellet...
I've further tested these pellets on additional Cabanas rifles and a Cabanas P8 pistol (uses the same blank cartridges as the rifles). Please bear in mind that these are "super magnum" class rifles (1,200+ fps) and magnum pistol (1,000+ fps), so performance might be different on your rifles.
Once resighted (since the Prommies were landing "high" because of their light weight), their accuracy was fine to overall good, depending on wind conditions, etc.
I found out that the more powerful of the cartridges available here (Mexico) tend to tear away the skirt and leave it inside the chamber. I would also expect this to be the behaviour of "super magnum" class air rifles. I believe this is because the Prommie's skirt is quite deep (1.5mm). I also discovered that by putting one small drop of parafin (candle) wax in the skirt, the problem was solved, allowing me to use this pellet, rifle and cartridge to their fullest potencial.
On small game (rabbits, rats, birds), this is a KILLER pellet; no small target has the slightest of chances. The Prommie will penetrate tissue, muscle and bone from side to side! Truely amazing!
My final verdict is that the Prometheus .177 is truely an extraordinary pellet as it is now, quickly becoming my pellet of choice. If Prometheus would shallow up the skirt (to 0.5mm) and add extra weight (to 9 grains, maybe), the pellet would have extended range, impact force and endurance, while not negatively affecting its arc of descent. The Prometheus .177 would then certainly become the ULTIMATE and ballisticly SUPERIOR pellet of all time.

The 0.177 Prometheus pellets are not designed for that speed, they were originally designed for sub 1000 FPS rifles, so chucking one out at 1200 FPS is your problem not the pellets, I use them on a regulaer basis at 950 FPS and get no problemss with accuracy, 1/2 inch group at 45 yrds prone no problem. Great for rabbit headshots !!

Its got me how an expert review can recommend these for people if they are breaking of and leaving bits in the barrel are you being payed by them or somone for this review. Never again will i buy these now i have to pay for my air rifle to be fixed and machined was doing some chonograph tests and accuracy tests and when i fired the Prometheus Hunting .22 i noticed the accuracy went real bad at just ten meters so when i shined a light down the barrel i noticed some of the rifling chipped of near the crown now i have to pay to get it fixed. Now do you think the people who make this rubbish will take responsability no i dont think so do your self a favour take this good advice dont buy them or use them or learn the hard way.
Did you read any of the Prometheus literature? All you have to do is go to their website and read up on the recommendations.

I understand how bits of plastic/polymer can foul up a barrel, particularly if they are left behind by friction generated heat, but since you can fire copper, brass, lead or tin bullets without any instant damage to a barrel in good condition (barrel wear MAY be a little accelerated), your barrel would seem to be suspect. All barrels are hardened and polished, but hardening means that steel is brittle, and if a crack develops, pushing a pellet through the barrel at speeds it was not intended for will most likely flake off bits round the crack and provide areas for the fouling to accrue.

You say that the pits and flakes are at the muzzle end, and this makes me want to ask you how often the gun has been dropped or fallen over, because this is where the impact needed to crack brittle steel would take place, and the breech, where the greatest initial pressure would be, does not seem affected.

The rifle has never been dropped and even if it did it has a big long plastic type muzzle over the crown that protects it, it was a Gamo CFX. I don't like these pellets and only suggest that it would be good for a smooth bore air rifle as plastic and rifling really do mix good. Also due to their hardness they tend to ricochet more.
