“Filter pops up!”

Written on: 22/03/2014 by AmandaV (11 reviews written)

I was really pleased with the vacuum until the catches on it refuse to hold the filter at one side. It catch doesn't seem in the right position( or big enough) and eventually wears the small catch on the black filter. I bought a new filter and within 20 mins it has failed again. This results in loss of suction as the lid of the machine lifts. My mum has has hers for years and is a different design catch. Shame on you Miele for not addressing this problem. I am at the moment running it… Read Full Review

Cheltenhamlady's Response to AmandaV's Review

Written on: 09/06/2014

I had similar problem, the on off switch wouldn't work and the lid lifted. I returned it to Miele as it was barely 6 months old - ended up having to pay £90 to get someone to look at it who declared the filter needed changing and I should have tried that first. Disgusting. Didn't believe them but had no choice to pay. I have no pets so hardly having to work very hard.

Anyway found out you can buy a Miele filter housing on Amazon that replaces the black rectangular carbon filter which was the problem. You put the white filter material inside this housing and hey presto all working fine. Interestingly this filter is clean a whistle after 9 months which makes me really angry as I knew this filter wouldn't have been full. Hope you get your sorted.

“Active filter popping - a possible solution”

Written on: 31/12/2013 by mscott45 (1 review written)

The active filter on my Miele vacuum cleaner kept popping up. I changed it as per the instructions, but the lugs on the new one broke as the old ones had done. I tried gaffer tape, but this melted and failed fairly quickly. I then found that by driving a longish, thin screw through the lugs of the filter and at a slight angle into the side of the cleaner, it would hold things together fairly well. Use a self-tapping screw and you should find it bites into whatever plastic is present in the… Read Full Review

“Picks up the dog fur but only lasted 4 months (again)”

Written on: 14/12/2013 by LobusWobbles (1 review written)

OK, this vacuum is really good at picking up dog hair and is easy and relatively light to use (we live in a town house, so lots of stairs), but this is the 2nd machine we have had where the active filter pops out and renders the machine suctionless. We keep putting the filter back, but after a couple of minutes' use, it pops out again. The first machine we had that it happened to was just out of warranty and we put it down to back luck, but the 2nd machine is not even four months old yet and it… Read Full Review

Lobuswobbles's Response to LobusWobbles's Review

By way of update on this, we contacted Miele who advised that the active filter needed replacing owing to the amount of use the machine was getting. Have to confess to being doubtful at this response as the machine wouldn't switch on at all by this point. However, replacing the active filter has worked and we now have a fully functioning vacuum again.

Yep did this too but those active filters are not cheap and seemed to need replacing very frequently. I bought a new filter housing that turns the filter into a regular white filter material. The housing looks the same but has a lid you lift up and insert the white filter material. The active filter is in my opinion a joke. See amazon Miele spare parts. The filter housing cost me the same as the active filter and I won't ever need to replace it just the filter material inside which comes free with hoover bags

“Active Filter Design Flaw”

Written on: 21/08/2013 by michaelP123 (1 review written)

We have had this cylinder cleaner just over a year but its only used upstairs so it has an easy life. We have only used two bags so far to prove my point. Now the active filter keep popping up because of a poorly designed latching system and has rendered the thing useless, i can see from the other posts here that i am far from alone. Also from what i have seen Miele are not supportive in this poor design matter. The machine is clearly not fit for purpose and should be avoided please fellow… Read Full Review

Hi justn
I am just going to run a bead of hotglue just to the right of the faulty clip, it should hold it and be easy to pick off when the filter needs replacing
If you want a pic post your email and I will send it later today

Hi,
Ok the hot glue worked until the machine got hot, the glue then became soft and gave way.
Viewing from the front of the machine on the right hand side front corner where the filter is meant to click in you will see a square plastic tab, its about 3/8 " square, drill a small hole in that and screw a half inch long self tapping screw into that all the way, the tip of the screw will then just engage into the body of the filter and hold it in place.
Make sure you keep the filter pressed down as the screw is being driven home.
If you post your email address here i will send you a pic if it helps.

My machine is now working ok

I feel it will be more money down the drain if you do cleRly the design is poor, my final cure is to put a large cable tie around the machine, obviously the tie has to be replaced each time you change filter / bag but hey it works

I am a bit of cleaning freak so I vac every day. This turbobrush Cat&Dog has been superb. It is used every day.It gets dropped, smashed, bashed,it's full of scractches, chips and evidence of hard use and the metal tube has several massive dents through hard use but it is still as powerful and as solid as the day it came out of the box. Following on from my last reveiw in June '13, the machine is still working as well as it was the day it came out of the box. It's now totally visually trashed (through hard use) - the shell is smashed, the tube is so dented it's unrecognisable, the whole thing is scratched and bashed beyond belief and yet the machine continues it's quest to survive.

If you read the other reviews carefully, you would know that people have replaced the HEPA filters several times and they keep popping out. That's why they have to put their foot on the case - to hold the filter in because nothing else works. I give your Miele three months before the filter starts popping out... then I'm sure you'll be back on here moaning about it.

“Faulty filter catch - no suction”

Written on: 10/06/2013

Like previous reviews, this machine works OK for a while but then filters keep popping out. This causes no suction. My machine went back twice and now due for a third visit with same fault not having been rectified. May cut losses, in this case considerable losses (£220), and like previous reviewer dump in bin. Do not get caught out like us - by a cheaper make, as you do not get good service from this expensive company supposedly providing a top of the range vacuum. All they were offering… Read Full Review

“Filter popping problem results in total suction loss”

Written on: 31/05/2013 by MBDD (1 review written)

Great for 6 months then performance seriously declined. HEPA filter kept popping out and could only be kept in place with one foot on the vacuum casing to stop it popping open. It also makes a dreadful screaming noise. This is a genuine Miele part yet doesn't seem to fit. Bag indicator was inaccurate from day one. Motor cuts out, cord rewinder stopped locking in place, and the Turbo brush won't even lift a large clump of hair. Spent £170 about 15 months ago and about to take it to the tip to… Read Full Review

“Infuriating filter problems Miele Cat and Dog”

Written on: 15/04/2013

Well I don't have a cat or a dog but I wanted a decent vacuum cleaner and this was on offer and beat the other Miele I was looking at on price. I even took out the extended warranty to ensure years of happy usage. Mistake. Within about 6 months of not excessive use I might add, the black filter started doing the squeeling thing, just like other reviewers. I phoned Miele who said I should change the bag and filters and try again. I did so with proper Miele replacement bags and replaced the… Read Full Review

I later found out I could buy from Miele this unit which is like a hollow filter and replaces the need for a filter and costs about the same as a replacement filter BUT doesn't wear out, get clogged up or cause loud noise or loss of suction. Wish I'd known about that before I wasted £90 on service charge and the rest.

“Great at hoovering, when it works”

Written on: 26/03/2013

I used to have a cyclinder Dyson, and bought the Miele Cat and Dog having used it at a friend's house. It is a fabulous product, but it appears to be cheaply made and we've had one problem after another with it. The on/off button is very temperamental, the lid to hold the tools on came off (I look after my products too) and won't go back on, the bag claims to be full even when it patently is not, the hose likes to twist in on itself which is annoying, and now the black filter is screaming and… Read Full Review

I absolutely concur with everything you have said. I took mine back to Currys to be told I had to send it back to Miele. Miele sent me a box, I packed it up and off it went (via courier). It was returned a couple of days later, the on/off switch had been repaired - it was stuck to on - but the screeching was not solved and has just got worse and worse. I wouldn't mind but within the first 6-7 months of having it I recommended it to so many people on my dog blog page and now I feel let down. It is just over 12 months old and I am so disappointed.

“bag does not stay on when in use”

Written on: 23/01/2013 by Janemarie (1 review written)

I have the upright version of the dog and cat. This is a powerful vacuum cleaner and like most Miele machines In have owned, I was expecting the best. Well, not so. The interior on the upright is crowded and clunky, it is difficult to change the filter and when you put the bag on, there is no way for it to attach and it keeps falling off, sucking all that great dog and cat dander RIGHT INTO THE ENGINE you just paid $650 for. Written on: 22/09/2012 by Disappointedmum2 (2 reviews written)

I was delighted with my Miele to start with. I found it much better than any vacuum I'd had before - Dyson, panasonic. It's light, easy to use and move around and actually picked up ALL the time. That was until it started doing the 'popping up' trick as mentioned by other reviewers. The black filter kept popping up and the noise was horrific plus all the suction was lost. I am about to take our Miele Cat & Dog vacuum cleaner (S6320), which is only 1 year and 6 days old, back to the service centre for the same problem which has just happened for the 2nd time in under 6 months: the air coming in to the cleaner body blows the filter out of it's pocket and pops the lid off with an accompanying scream and then the power can't be switched on by the foot button (I see other reviewers have had the same issue). Oh sorry I couldn't quite hear you due to the temporary deafness caused by using our Miele vacuum cleaner. It worked reasonably well for the first year and a half, But after just running out of warranty it starts SCREECHING, this is due to the black filter on top popping up all the time,it is held down by two rather small plastic hooks (sticking plasters would hold down better)the air pressure is too high behind the filter, the hooks can't hold it down and it just pops up. I'm getting EXACTLY the same problem. Ours is 1 year and 6 days old and I'm about to take it back for the second time within 6 months for the same reason. The last time I was told it was because it had too much dust and hair inside. What??!! Its a VACUUM cleaner!!! Designed for homes with pets. Most pets I've come across tend to have hair. Perhaps the ones Miele used in their tests don't? If I hadn't spent so much money on this thing, I'd dump it. DON'T waste your money. I miss my old Dyson now and wish I'd got another one instead.
