Purchased my terrano in 2009 as a part ex for an astra van for £1200 best vehicle I ever bought very very reliable a very tough dependable little 4x4 goes everywhere I want it to go be it muddy fields tracks motorways etc . The 2.7 Nissan diesel engine is incredible will outpull a similar aged landrover most important it's bulletproof driven by internal gears she never misses a beat wouldn't swap it for anything else unless another terrano or Toyota landcruiser because they never fail or go… Read Full Review

“22 years and still going strong.”

Written on: 05/11/2013

I purchased my Terrano 2.7 about fifteen years ago. I guess the vehicle speaks for itself because I won't part with it. My little girl is now 22 years old and although not the fastest vehicle on the blacktop it just purrs all day. I really should buy another sets of tyres for her (the current ones are ten years old, ha) Beach fishing one day in Bussleton south of Perth WA where I live I pulled out a near new Toyota Prado, the look on the guys face was priceless. “Why did I wait so long?! Brilliant :)”

I have been wanting/needing a big towcar and have had a shortlist of a few cars. After many many months of trying to decide,I kept coming back to the Terrano. I'm so pleased with it, the kids love it "Best car ever Dad!!" :) We've just done a day trip from Bristol to Lands End and back, and it was such a joy to drive long distances.I sat on 65 mph,and it did 38 mpg.Well impressed.Love the higher driving position, great all round visibility. It did take a while to find one that ticked the boxes… Read Full Review

“To Hell with image....give me a Terrano!”

Written on: 16/04/2012 by AngusGlen (1 review written)

Perhaps not for the image conscious, but a good workhorse and good all round vehicle. Having had two Mavericks ,two Terranos and driven in excess of 300 000 miles I suppose I am a fan. They were all second hand with between 37 and 56 000 on the clock when purchased ,some with service history ,some not. There are things to look out for, two of them had persistant water leaks from the rear door ,check carpets and under the back seat for evidence.Leaks are a PAIN. Mechanically the engines are… Read Full Review

I also own a terrano 2.7 tdi, what a reliable tough car it has been! i too have changed the MAF sensor due to lack of power and performance, changing this as traceformed the car's driving experience. I have towed with it and it just pulled up steep hills with ease! has for in the recent snow fall, "I need say no more".

“Excelant work horse”

Written on: 13/08/2011 by Drystonewaller (1 review written)

My previous car was a land rover disco auto, very heavy on fuel, cheap parts, but you need so many. As a dry stone waller, most of our work is a long way from any roads, and usually pulling a trailer. with good quality tyres its very good, pulls as good as the disco, not as much room inside, but much more comfy, better on fuel. Spent some cash on getting it up together, but money well spent. Hint always buy one with good service history, when i replace this one, it will be the same car. … Read Full Review

I got my short wheelbase terrano when it was 6 months old on a 06 plate with 6000 miles on clock. Very happy with it, until the labour government put the road tax up to £430 a year :-( Road tax goes off emissions and the terrano has an old fashioned type smokey engine (same as they use in black cabs) This engine might be a bit smokey but its very reliable. My mate works as a mechanic for nissan, and says the terrano is far more reliable than the newer nissans like x-trail ect. So im going to… Read Full Review

Overall a great value practical car. Bought for caravan pulling and does an excellent job. Comfortable to drive and the huge boot is great. Simple to service and bits to do so are cheap. Road noise is not bad and handling for such a big lump acceptable too. Weve not had it long but in 3 months no problems at all. Performed well in snow covered roads when 4wd used. Got it just in time for the snow and has been amazing going through the snow and over fields even with AT tyres. 7 seat potential. Or bigger boot. Cheap parts all over ebay. Great comfy car that handles UK bump infested roads. Reliable as all nissans are. Looks bland but isn't a Chelsea tractor. Quick enough without losing license. All thats wrong with your car is you, sorry to say. they are very capable 4x4 vehicle, but if you regularly tow on grass, you need all terrain tyres, and use low box (4x4 lever all the way back).
A/T tyres are biased to off road use with on tarmac use.
However, if the ground you are on is so slippy that there is no traction, it wont matter what vehicle or tyres you use, it wont move. Vehicles with wheels need to have traction for any controlled movement (forward or reverse). if there is no traction you need something with tracks..........or a helicopter.
I have had 2 of these terrano's, i pull trailers and caravans and have found them a good workhorse, far more reliable than my landrovers and no oil leaks. My wife loves it as well and uses it for the school run and shopping, the 7 seats is a great bonus as well, or the rear row of seats are very easy to remove for a cavonous boot and still 5 seats. All 7 seats have retractable seat belts.
Its a sham nissan discontinued the terrano for the XTrail, as the xtrail is smaller, lower and far less caperbul off road, and i really dislike the dash in the middle on the xtrail unlike the terrano and just about every other car on the road.

Thanks

This would be a problem with the drag link of the steering being worn out, or with the driver belting kerbs with the front wheels, both of which upset alignment. I only have wheel alignments done every time I buy new front tyres..whether the vehicle needs it or not..for the last 11 years.

Regarding your terrano being to slow, when I purchased mine (2.7 TD ) it was ridiculously slow ,I did some investigating and was advised to change the air flow sensor, I was also advised not to pay more than £60 from a Nissan dealer as this was a recognised problem they had. I changed mine after paying £48 plus vat. I couldn't believe the difference it made, the thing goes like a bat out of hell now. Hope this has been of help.

have you had the motor replaced at any stage ? I had mine replaced with a japanese import. They put my old recalibrated injector pump on. the motor smoked and was very under powered. On investigation it was revealed to me that one should never swap injector pumps. I replaced it with the one that came with the replaced motor. Not smoking and not under powered any more. Check that the pipe from the air intake is connected to your injecter pump.

I got an end of life model (L reg) LWB 7 seater to see if it was suitable. Although general driving was good, the problem is you are not sure what damage has been done by previous owners. Parts are expensive and it is often a specialist garage that is needed to replace parts. Having replaced practically everything on it, I have now down graded because of running costs. So if buying one, buy from new or nearly new and don't fall for the 'these will run for ages!' line… Read Full Review

“My wife and I bought a used Terrano to replace our 3...”

Written on: 20/07/2006 by nix (1 review written)

My wife and I bought a used Terrano to replace our 3 door Rav 4 and we are very pleased with it. It has plenty of room for shopping and stuff which was the draw back with the rav and it is very reliable, never having let us down. I find it comfortable on long journeys but my wife ( who has had surgury on her spine) has to turn the lumber support off.
It is easy to drive, my wife who is only 5 foot drives it almost daily with no problems… Read Full Review

“The Terrano II Touring is a strong car, drives well...”

Written on: 26/04/2006 by Williamwright (1 review written)

The Terrano II Touring is a strong car, drives well and gives me good mpg. However 3 New speedos from Nissan, 1st speedo LCD display failed.2nd speedo 4.6 mph out,3rd speedo 5.8 mph out.
Nissan do not see this to be a problem & most speedos give different readings,They told me if I had it altered in any way the speedo warranty would be void, (wish I never had the 3rd speedo changed) Apart from this the vehicle is perfect for me,so I can live with this minor problem… Read Full Review

“We have had a Terrano 2 commercial at work for 4 years...”

Written on: 17/02/2006 by pshore (9 reviews written)

We have had a Terrano 2 commercial at work for 4 years now, which gets used for a mixture of motorway, towing and remote access use. Overall I think it a good performer. The speedo is a mile out but at a true 70 - 72 mph we get 375 to 400 miles to the tankful which is 30mpg. Drives like a car and cruises well. Original Pirelli Scorpions lasted 40,000 miles and we now run Coopers. Present mileage 60,000 miles. The clutch went about a year ago and the subsequent clutch only lasted 10,000 miles… Read Full Review

“Having had 3 Nissan Terrano 4x4's from the first,...”

Having had 3 Nissan Terrano 4x4's from the first, through "Extreeme" to facelift "S" and just about to purchase my 4th I feel I am qualified to comment. They are a strong able workhorse, comfortable and quite quick if you are able to keep it on the "boil" They are stable to drive with progressive oversteer if pushed to the extreemes on roundabouts or "playing" off road they tow loads in excess of 3 tons illegally but very well. If you have a horse and trailer you`ll love this vehicle… Read Full Review

I am thinking of getting a terrano for the family, my only question would be what kind of mpg does the diesel unit give? Cheers
I just brought a terrano II it is on gas yes tdi on gas just done 500klms and took 40 liters to refuel so should get around 1000 to 1100 per tank witch I think is great 8lts to 100kls dont know much about the car but has plenty of power and pull but the gas is suposed to give anything from 20% to 50% more power and pull than standard and better fuel economy.

If I compare it to other 4x4 vehicles like Prado and Land Cruisers, it is much better. I do not know what mpg it is but in South Africa I get an avarage of 9.5 km/l on my vehicle. On the highway I normally drive between 120km/h and 130 km/h to give you an indication of how I drive. It is a lovely vehicle, comfy, quiet and powerful. It handles off-road obstacles very well and do not stand back one bit for more expensive 4x4s.

Not brilliant but on par with most other 4x4`s depends how heavy your foot is and whether you like honks from behind when you towing...

“Having leased the Nissan Terrano II Touring 2.7 TDI...”

Written on: 11/06/2004 by martinW (1 review written)

Having leased the Nissan Terrano II Touring 2.7 TDI for 3 years it's now due to go back (hurrah!). Now on my 3rd speedo..after 15000 miles it tends to stick on 70 mph, which is a bit disconcerting when travelling at 30mph. During 3 months of last years very hot summer my heater refused to blow anything but hot...spares eventually arrived. Oil seals failed twice on the rear soaking the brake pads. Alarm failed...another long wait for spares. Very agricultural...on a long journey I found two… Read Full Review

Good, it's not a sports car..bends deserve caution in any vehicle and especially in a 4WD. Also good that you stop every 2 hours for a refresher when driving...recommended by most experts as the ideal interval for maximun attention to driving. The oil seals probably failed through the vent on the rear axle being plugged up/rusted closed. At high speed (70MPH) the air in the diff expands, can't get out the blocked vent, and blows past the seals. MAINTENANCE ISSUE.Heater could have been disabled by any half competent garage or even by someone half handy by blocking the connections to/from the engine. no hot water circulating=no heat. Simple.

“This Nissan Terrano II is a great machine for those...”

Written on: 07/07/2003 by Kev. (1 review written)

This Nissan Terrano II is a great machine for those who don't want to go down the MPV road but want something with extra space for family living. The fully loaded interior also means you get a luxury car spec but the advantages of a 4x4. Haven't given it a full off-road test except for a bit of snow / ice driving where the Terrano performed extremely well. As mentioned in the bad points, the Terrano could do with a bit of extra width to ease the roll during cornering and give some extra space… Read Full Review
