“nissan terrano salomon 2.7 TDI ”

written by smnprpnt on 09/11/2013

Purchased my terrano in 2009 as a part ex for an astra van for £1200 best vehicle I ever bought very very reliable a very tough dependable little 4x4 goes everywhere I want it to go be it muddy fields tracks motorways etc . The 2.7 Nissan diesel engine is incredible will outpull a similar aged landrover most important it's bulletproof driven by internal gears she never misses a beat wouldn't swap it for anything else unless another terrano or Toyota landcruiser because they never fail or go wrong . It's a shame Nissan ceased production but they are well worth the outlay if you can find a good example and they cheap as chips to buy and ok for parts and general running.

“22 years and still going strong.”

★★★★★

written by on 05/11/2013

I purchased my Terrano 2.7 about fifteen years ago. I guess the vehicle speaks for itself because I won't part with it. My little girl is now 22 years old and although not the fastest vehicle on the blacktop it just purrs all day. I really should buy another sets of tyres for her (the current ones are ten years old, ha) Beach fishing one day in Bussleton south of Perth WA where I live I pulled out a near new Toyota Prado, the look on the guys face was priceless. "You'll never pull me out with that thing" he said! Wrong!,,I'm not saying I've never been stuck, one of the beaches I visited north of Perth has sand like fine salt and no bottom to it. Tyres let down to just hanging on the rims and a bit (actually a lot) of forward and reversing, bit by bit she climbed out. Do yourself a favour if you are thinking of buying a 4wd vehicle make sure it has a separate low range gear box. Some of the garbage that's sold today can't climb out of soft sand well because they overheat and as soon as that happens they shut themselves down for protection oh the precious little things. They can't hack the rough stuff. City driving is all they are good for. Anyway all you wise Terrano owners happy hunting. Till next time. Cheers. Ceebee77.

“Why did I wait so long?! Brilliant :)”

I have been wanting/needing a big towcar and have had a shortlist of a few cars. After many many months of trying to decide,I kept coming back to the Terrano. I'm so pleased with it, the kids love it "Best car ever Dad!!" :) We've just done a day trip from Bristol to Lands End and back, and it was such a joy to drive long distances.I sat on 65 mph,and it did 38 mpg.Well impressed.Love the higher driving position, great all round visibility. It did take a while to find one that ticked the boxes i.e mileage/service history/condition etc and it was worth travelling for this one.I appreciate i'm in the early stages of ownership, but will update as time passes. Its amazing how much more polite and courteous other drivers are now ;) I hope you enjoy yours as much as I enjoy mine

“To Hell with image....give me a Terrano!”

★★★★☆

written by AngusGlen on 16/04/2012

Perhaps not for the image conscious, but a good workhorse and good all round vehicle. Having had two Mavericks ,two Terranos and driven in excess of 300 000 miles I suppose I am a fan. They were all second hand with between 37 and 56 000 on the clock when purchased ,some with service history ,some not. There are things to look out for, two of them had persistant water leaks from the rear door ,check carpets and under the back seat for evidence.Leaks are a PAIN. Mechanically the engines are bullet proof ....no more to say , gear box ,well, around the 100 000 mark I have had 5th gear bearing problems on one car ,steering pump hoses at 120 000 , Fuel lines along the chassis corrode .... and a clutch plate which broke up without warning . Servicing....gulp I take no pleasure in admitting they could have been better cared for ....and yet they keep on going... despite 500 mile trips delivering boats ... excellent in snow and ice and perfectly ok off road ,although not my usual use. Performance ,well I have no complaints ,never intended to be a racing machine but give me a twisty road and a good set of Pirreli Scorpions ...joy! Towing, long distance motorway towing , drive smoothly and anticipate, hard to better and effortless. On normal roads a little more power might be useful All my vehicles have been short wheel base 3 door models ,probably the best as a tow vehicle...although I am thinking about a 5 door for improved access and a little more space Economy, hmmm not bad if treated with respect around 30ish... however at the current 147p/litre gulp! To sum up....go for it ...if it doesn't sound like a bag of nails on start up its probably ok!!

“Terrano se 2.7 tdi Simply The Best.”

★★★★★

written by terrnaobry on 04/02/2012

I bought my Terrano from Friend,it is a 2001 and it had 65.000 on the clock.Taxed tested and half a tank of fuel. For £1200.Then i gave it a service oil/fliters even a new cabin filter.Since owning this 4x4 i have had to change the M.A.F sensor. The heater switch is stuck in one position(but not a problem) I have fitted it with Goodrich all terranin tyres,And it will go where ever a standard landrover can go(video's to prove)(youtube terrnao bry). I have no problems driving my Terrano on or off road. Just around the the corner to where i live there are guys that have landy's etc.And very week end they have the tool box out and the bonnet up fixing something.Touch wood my 4x4 is bullet proof.Just look after it and it will look after you.Would i swap it for another 4x4,Only if it say's Nissan Terrano se on it.

I also own a terrano 2.7 tdi, what a reliable tough car it has been! i too have changed the MAF sensor due to lack of power and performance, changing this as traceformed the car's driving experience. I have towed with it and it just pulled up steep hills with ease! has for in the recent snow fall, "I need say no more".

bought after writing off a 3 litre shogun (don't ask). went looking for a 4wd to replace it. need it for towing a twin axle 6 berth caravan and to cope with scottish mountain roads. checked for oil leaks underneath and did 50 mile road test. tows very well did 2000 miles with caravan on back. needs more power for acceleration but once cruising sits there all day with or without caravan. average 31 mpg daily driving towing 22mpg. cannot get car to engage 4wd but has coped with 6" of snow and black ice very well. this maybe due to the mud and snow fitted before my ownership. rear lights needed to be rewired as dirt from rear wheels cake them. failed mot on drivers side head light. the lens was for left hand drive and not right hand drive !!!!!! only minus point is strong cross winds inexcess of 60 mph make driving interesting.

“Excelant work horse”

★★★★★

written by Drystonewaller on 13/08/2011

My previous car was a land rover disco auto, very heavy on fuel, cheap parts, but you need so many. As a dry stone waller, most of our work is a long way from any roads, and usually pulling a trailer. with good quality tyres its very good, pulls as good as the disco, not as much room inside, but much more comfy, better on fuel. Spent some cash on getting it up together, but money well spent. Hint always buy one with good service history, when i replace this one, it will be the same car.

written by on 26/03/2011

I got my short wheelbase terrano when it was 6 months old on a 06 plate with 6000 miles on clock. Very happy with it, until the labour government put the road tax up to £430 a year :-( Road tax goes off emissions and the terrano has an old fashioned type smokey engine (same as they use in black cabs) This engine might be a bit smokey but its very reliable. My mate works as a mechanic for nissan, and says the terrano is far more reliable than the newer nissans like x-trail ect. So im going to keep paying my £430 a year road tax because its well worth it.

I love my Nissan, bought for £1250.00 3years 6months ago it is a real trooper. Had no problems with it at all! Brilliant for towing my horse tariler around, got out of muddy fields no prob even when the Daihatsu's, Land Rovers and Range Rovers were all being towed out by tractor! Its easy to drive, flies on motorway for such a big car, got me out of many snowy situations, I wouldn't change to another 4x4 if you paid me!

Perfect for my lifestyle, doesn't mind getting out into the paddock to tow around the harrows, belts through the snow & sand, purrs when cruising the open roads... only negative is the lack of power when pulling/towing a big load

The terrano is a brill 4x4 for the money. It does every thing i want, everyday use, pulls my 26ft caravan, good in snow, and miles per gallon is good for the weight.Go for the diesel in either like mine 2700cc or my favoriet the 3ltre.Its a pity nisson stopped making them after 2005 i think as this is whot i think is the best value 4x4 value for money jeep on the market and ive had a few.cheers.

★★★☆☆

written by on 01/02/2010

The car has been great for getting around in normal conditions besides the lack of a little power. this weekend i got snowed on, around 10 cm, and on the road it did great considering i have normal tires (20% off road, 80% street). the other day other cars were having troubles on a inclined curve so to avoid that i took another road that was much steeper and shorter and had no problems in 4x4. the road to my house is quite steep and is gravel. while coming back home on the descend, i about put the car down the forest. my main problem with this car is the WEIGHT and that was the fault of my slide when i was turning down the hill!!! if you plan on using this for off road go with a land rover defender because this car is just too heavy. if you are doing regular driving and do not encounter dangerous roads or will not use it for off road purposes i would suggest it. also, just to add, if you have bought it and the car is lacking power, trying cleaning or changing out the MAF (mass air flow sensor)

Overall a great value practical car. Bought for caravan pulling and does an excellent job. Comfortable to drive and the huge boot is great. Simple to service and bits to do so are cheap. Road noise is not bad and handling for such a big lump acceptable too. Weve not had it long but in 3 months no problems at all. Performed well in snow covered roads when 4wd used. The only one thing i would improve about this car is to give it a bit moor ooomph! The 2.7tdi is certainly a work horse and not a race horse!

Not long had ownership of this vehicle, but I am a Caravanner and it suits my needs when using as a tow vehicle, also like the off road capability it offers. This country has just had a bad winter, snow everywhere, and it handled without any problem, it really did earn its money during this weather and lack of gritting to local roads, just put it into 4WD Low Box and away I went.

Bought this car for £900 with 120k and couldn't be more pleased.
Got it just in time for the snow and has been amazing going through the snow and over fields even with AT tyres. 7 seat potential. Or bigger boot. Cheap parts all over ebay. Great comfy car that handles UK bump infested roads. Reliable as all nissans are. Looks bland but isn't a Chelsea tractor. Quick enough without losing license. Petrol version is a bit of a petrol drinker but quieter. Can't wait to get off road tyres so I can really put car through its paces. GREAT CAR GREAT VALUE. 1 air bag? don't crash. Rubbish off road? Have you tried buying proper tyres. You cannot complain about this car. I love it. Nissan Terrano II 2.4 SE.

All thats wrong with your car is you, sorry to say. they are very capable 4x4 vehicle, but if you regularly tow on grass, you need all terrain tyres, and use low box (4x4 lever all the way back).
A/T tyres are biased to off road use with on tarmac use.
However, if the ground you are on is so slippy that there is no traction, it wont matter what vehicle or tyres you use, it wont move. Vehicles with wheels need to have traction for any controlled movement (forward or reverse). if there is no traction you need something with tracks..........or a helicopter.
I have had 2 of these terrano's, i pull trailers and caravans and have found them a good workhorse, far more reliable than my landrovers and no oil leaks. My wife loves it as well and uses it for the school run and shopping, the 7 seats is a great bonus as well, or the rear row of seats are very easy to remove for a cavonous boot and still 5 seats. All 7 seats have retractable seat belts.
Its a sham nissan discontinued the terrano for the XTrail, as the xtrail is smaller, lower and far less caperbul off road, and i really dislike the dash in the middle on the xtrail unlike the terrano and just about every other car on the road.

Thanks

i have owned my T2 for five years now only had to change the water pump.
i lived in the north west of Western Australia and was out in some tough conditions, crossing creeks and some very tough terrain no problems. even had to pull out some rodeo's and landcruisers from some sticky spots that the Terrano just cruised through no problems. great 4x4
