Well the best motor I have ever owned - great fun and you can't help falling in love with them, get the roof off and and get out in the sun. Class less and DIY fun. Prices are going up so if you buy a good one you won't lose a lot of money.

This is the greatest car 4x4 off roader in the world. You will love yours and respect it. Reliable, completely indestructible, fun to drive, great for city traffic due to high driving position and lower speed than some cars (its happiest speed is about 30) Roof comes off in 5 mins, can keep up on the motorway fine.

The Land Rover Series 2 is an excellent all round car, will do what you want it to do all the time and will never break down. If it does you can fix it in ten minutes.

The Landrover Series 2/2A is the hardcore offroader, the crem de la crem of uncompromised offroad ability combined with durability. Everything is made to last a very long time and even when it breaks or rots away can be replaced, repaired or bodged back into action - the number of surviving examples testify.
On road, it struggles to keep up with traffic, a well tuned petrol SWB will do 60 on the road, geared for bags of torque.
As soon as a series landrover leaves tarmac, it becomes the most capable offroader of all time, It leaves the crowd of wanabee soft roaders stranded at the first puddle, and even later coil sprung landrovers have to work hard to match it's abilities.
It is one of the most modifyable vehicles ever, and parts are very cheap. Parts are even available to make it more practical for today, such as parabolic suspension, altenator conversion kits, soundproofing, 5 speed gearboxes etc etc.
Landrovers are hard to drive, non syncomeshed 2nd and 1st gears need practice to get used to double decluch. The gearbox is not exactly close ratio, its like stirring porrige. Fuel consumption is laughable, probably about 15-25 MPG at best. The landrover 88 has a turning circle which puts artics to shame, and oil leaks are manditory (its a landrover)
Dials are in a centre console, and, on a good day very aproximately indicate speed, water temperature and fuel level. Sometimes random things will stop working for no good reason. Its a landrover.
Leaf springs are uncomfortable and harsh over rough ground and pot-holes on roads at speed, they leave you with a numb bum and the noise of the engine is very loud, and leaves your ears ringing after driving at speed.
