Good Points: The three buildings comprising this small, provincial-style hotel are very private and safely located, yet situated in the heart of the 5th arrondissement in Paris. The staff is extremely helpful, friendly, patient, and easy to communicate with. The main manager, is amazing (smart, very helpful, informative), the owner, is wonderful in an old world sort of way. Her "Bon jeur" and "Ce bien?" every morning sounds like music

Bad Points: The rooms are a little small, but, hey, it's Europe...right? If you want NYC, go to NYC. This is not the Hyatt or some other chain-type hotel, or one that is cold and tinsely. This is the real thing...Paris in its purest form.

General comments: Perfectly located within walking distance of most locations and a Metro stop within a single block; near the wonderful Arab Institute and Jardine du Plantes. Luxembourg Gardens, Pantheon, Sorbone, and shopping heaven of Boulevard Ste. Germain and Rue St. Michele also very close. Many students nearby (Sorbonne) but few tourists. Above all, the medieval rue Moufetard ancient daily market is only two blocks away. I can't wait to go back. We've stayed at the Hotel des Grandes Ecoles least eight times (I've lost count) over the last fifteen years, and it has gotten better and better with each visit. In Hotel des Grandes Ecole you will meet numerous interesting (but not elitist) travellers from around the world, many of whom are on a budget, yet want charm, quality, and authenticity. This place is very individual and unique. Quiet environment, with an amazingly beautiful courtyard patio with singing birds. wonderful plantings, and a cobblestone walkway.
