It is difficult to insert a new battery into the Tomy Tomica - Thomas And Friends - Adventure Set; I nearly took the whole train apart! After a few months (and having only played with it about 4 times) the train stopped working ... followed shortly by the red train that we purchased separately. Very disappointed.

xxmagneticxx.....your experience with those sort of toys is all too common unfortunately.
I repair, or try to, lots of battery-powered toys and find that in the majority of cases, it is battery connector problems.
Mechanical failure is inevitable sooner rather than later due to relatively highly-stressed parts such as gears, cogs and bearings being made of plastic.

I wonder if you've approached the retailer because poor Thomas and his mate have gone to the old shunting yard in the sky TOO soon!

That's a shame. I have a suspicion that Thomas expired from electron starvation and I've yet to fail fixing electrical faults.
Pity you don't live in the Swansea area for I'm sure I could resuscitate both.

Hi, yes I think with "James" the problem has something to do with the wiring because the wires connect the train to the extending carriage that holds the battery - but I don't have a clue what to do! Unfortunately the set and extra train were both gifts so I don't have a receipts. :(
