Good Points: Eventually we made it to our desitnation but it was a very horrible and unhappy experience.

Bad Points: What made it worse was that the employees did not try to apologize, smile, nod, or in anyway acknowledge us as people; we were cattle to them.

General comments: Recently my family and I had a nightmarish experience with American Airlines. The employees of American had less than no sympathy and could not be bothered to even acknowledge our predicament. Our flight was to leave BWI at 4:45 and was late due to what the pilot called "maintenance log problems". We boarded the plan at 5:40 or so and the pilot complained that the air traffic controllers would not approve his departure direction. We waited for an additional hour or so. We missed our connecting flight in DFW and the supervisor on the ground took over as gate agent, funneling all of us into one line. We waited 45 minutes. The supervisor gave us a hotel voucher, a dinner voucher and told us we were on the first flight out on first class in the AM. The transport for the hotel never showed and we paid $30 for a cab. The dinner was delivery pizza in a smelly hotel. When we got to the airport early the next day we and boarded the plane (expecting breakfast) we found our seats were not first class but coach. While my wife and six year old waited on the aircraft I went back out and talked to the supervisor on duty. He said that yes we were booked first class but that American corporate did not allow that and that they had changed the booking overnight. Horrible. What made it worse was that the employees did not try to apologize, smile, nod, or in anyway acknowledge us as people; we were cattle to them.

After checking that I did not have to pre-register for the 40min stop over in Miami, I was told there would be no problem. A criminal record from many many years ago - would not stop me from flying over, and stopping for 40mins.LIES!I had to send my wife and 2yr old on the International Flight ALONE - and spend another $1,000 to find a direct flight - avoiding the all powerful, uncaring, unrealistic USAThen... My child got strange bumps all over her body, that (after spending a sickening amount ...

American Airlines(horrible airlines) I traveled from Shreveport to Vegas with connection flight in Dallas. To start it off my 1st morning departure flight was canceled and I was put on a later evening flight. Had a 2 1/2 layover in Dallas. On the way back my flight from Dallas to Shreveport was supp to leave at 1pm, it was canceled. So put me n the 4:30 flight and on standby for 2:05.At 2:05 was told flight booked. So when 4:30 came, they said it was delayed until 6:46. Was put on standby for 5 ...

I've made the same international trip several times. This was my first and last with American Airlines. The food was impossible to eat and the staff were unbelievably rude. I heard one of the stewards comment that no one was eating anything. They thought it was because of turbulence. On such a long flight you have to depend a great deal on what your offered. Horrible, horrible experience.

It was my first time flying with American Airlines since I usually fly with Continental. I must say I am never traveling with AA again. First of all AA does not have any entertainment what so ever. Secondly you have to purchase food from them which is totally ridiculous ($3 for a big cookie & $6 for nuts), paying $350 for my flight I would thought the snack would come with what I paid for. Third of all the plane was very noisy. Lastly the flight I was on was delayed both times. I would not recom ...

I have flown with American Airlines for about 5 years now. In the past I would have rated them quite highly but in the past 2 years their whole service delivery has deteriorated considerably. The aircraft are well past their upgrade date; staff are indifferent; delays (caused by absent pilots and plane faults) and inconvenience of a large scale is viewed as a tiresome norm and you get the distinct impression that no one can really be bothered to care.In the past 7 months I have flown from London ...

American Airlines is so often late. In my latest trip to South America my first flight was late so I barely made my second flight, but my luggage didn't. They assured me they would "track it", but it turns out they don't know where the luggage is until it arrives at its destination point. In my case it was more than 48 hours late, and as a result I fell behind with the work I needed to do. I asked the airline to reschedule my return flight so I could make up for the time I lost waiting for ...

American Airlines is running a terrible business right now. Flights are delayed without cause, luggage is lost with just one flight change, the planes are old and dirty, and the personnel is less than friendly.

American Airlines customer service very helpful on the phone, at baggage check-in, and at the gate. Flight attendants were helpful and knew what they were doing. Flew from San Antonio to Dallas, short flight, on a special deal AA offered through the Phi Theta Kappa organization. Had an extremely good rate.

Great service from American Airlines - it's changed my view on them completely. I was due to fly RDU to BOS on the 1st June to connect with a BA flight to LHR. I had flown down to RDU on AA from BOS the day before. Anyway, I was in the Admiral's Club and did not keep an eye on the departures board, and got to the gate two minutes too late. Now, contracturally AA didn't owe me anything - all they had to do rebook me on another flight, say, the next one a day later (there was no way I was going to ...

I bought a round trip ticket through Orbitz on Aer Lingus from Phoenix to Shannon, Ireland. American code-shares and has the domestic parts of the flight through Boston outbound and Chicago returning. Well, I got notice from Orbitz that the schedules changed on the American flights and I was concerned with the time between flights being shortened. I called Orbitz and they told me of the fees involved to make a change with them, but said because it was a schedule change I should call the airli ...

worst Reservation service I ever exerienced. These guys rip you off if you ever plan to cancel the ticket. They charge you $150 as cancellation fee for domestic travel. I have cancelled tickets before with other airlines like United, southwest, and Delta. for all these and may be other airlines I got full refund as voucher which I can use in an yr for the same airline. I am optimistic, but still there may be chances my trip gets cancelled for what ever reason. And so may be to any other. So I wou ...

flight from manchester to phil I can not fault it,but the flight from phil to vegas, It was poor, the food ran out going and coming back there was no in flight entertainment to take your mind off the fact you are starving to death.if it was not for thr pretzels off the other flight that we still had in the bag we would have starved.we complained to the stewardess and she told us to write in to American Airlines to complain which we are now doing.

American is not up front about hidden fees. For example, there is nothing obvious after a good deal of search online that indicates they will cancel your reservation if you do not show up for the first leg of the trip. Doing so requires a change fee of $150. Secondly, they are less than up front about restrictions on travel vouchers. They promise that you can use them for future travel when offering them, but just try to use them. There are many, many, many restrictions they don't bother me ...

The poor reviews on here are exaggerated. I fly over 100K miles on American Airlines every year, and I find their service to be comparable to most domestic carriers (even when I'm not upgraded). Their frequent flier program is very good, and service in first class is consistently friendly and efficient. Like everyone else, I've experienced some horror stories over the years, but more often than not it is due to external factors (weather, airport delays, etc).

Called to book a flight with American Airlines from rdu to bos, asking for the "military fare". What a joke. A regular flight is $76.00 o/w, military special fare..... $473.00! It was explained to me that this is a great deal because they allow you to make changes without a fee? I can buy 5 regular priced tickets! Completely amazing.

I am not going to tell about American Airlines delays, I saw many comments about that. So, that part is clear. I flew to Jamaica with my husband. On the way back I had to fly to San Francisco via Miami. Montego Bay to Maimi flight is only a little over an hour, however, the flight was delayed (of course) and at the time of scheduled boarding in Montego Bay our plane just left Miami. When we finally got to Miami we missed our connection to San Francisco. We actually had 15 minutes and I was prett ...

American Airlines is the worst airline in the sky. Shabby planes, rude staff and zero customer service. Always go elsewhere (Virgin or Asian airlines in particular).
