There appears to be 2 known faults :-
1.top engine mounting gives a droning vibration at about 3-4 thousand revs before changing gear. This is due to the rubber in the old engine mounting going hard, passing vibration through bodywork. The new mounting has fins and additional bits to stop this problem.
2. The resister pack for the heater fan on both my 53 and 54 plate scenics both went wrong due to a design fault. There is a replacement pack with cabling mod to fix the problem which Renault know about and so email Renault if you have either problem.
Apart from the above I would still buy another 1.9Dci Scenic as fuel consumption is excellent towing a trailer on Motorway giving sometimes 56mpg. but usually around late 40's and has lots of power for hills. The semi auto handbrake is also very good once you are used to it, allowing you o pull away without touching the handbrake, but putting it on is by pulling the lever on the right with a finger etc. or switching the engine off.
It is worth getting the Renault fuel additive every month or 2 , as it cleans out the diesel system and gives better power and fuel economy.

The Renault Scenic 1.9DCi offers comfort, ideal travel car, gas/oil consuming very moderate (6 lit / 100 km in city). I even travelled from the south of France to home with a gasoil consume of 4,9 lit / 100 km ! With 4 persons and a lot of package, this car is very spaceful. With 126.000 km on the counter within 8 years, I had no problem with this cat that is worth a mention (perhaps a halogen lamp and a little exhaust pipe connection) I would recommend this car to everybody, but you have ...- Read Guest's review (104 words)

We changed from a Focus C-Max Ghia 2 litre turbo diesel for the 1.9 DCi Grand Scenic Dynamique when we had another child. Although the car had a lot of extra space, it has proved worse in almost every other respect. Renault customer service is worse even than Peugeot, which I thought was impossible. Very poor value for money. A great shame as this car had potentially so much going for it - but the build quality and customer service is just dire.- Read angusmcsporran's review (147 words)

I would never buy a Renault again. I have had nothing but trouble with this car, in fact during the year that I have owned it, the garage has probably had it more than me. The pistons went on it which cost 1200 to replace and now the turbo has gone and the whole engine now has to be replaced with a recon which is going to cost 1500. I will be glad to see the back of it.- Read Guest's review (78 words and 1 comment)

Dealers make all the difference with Renaults. Our 54 Grand Scenic 1.9dCi has had a few minor problems (electric window, glowplugs, limp home mode), but all have been fixed first time by our local dealer who are both honest and very knowledgeable. Overall, we love the car, although could see it being much less of a pleasant prospect if the dealer was less attentive.- Read Guest's review (63 words)

Space - the Renault Scenic is like a TARDIS, small & manouverable on the outside but huge on the inside. Plenty of room for driver and passengers & a wonderful configuration of seating that allows it to be a five-seat MPV or a van! My diesel has done 50mpg consistently over 7 years of ownership.
I love this little car and would gladly replace my existing 9-year old (130,000 mile) model for another one only younger & with less miles on it.- Read Guest's review (96 words)

The car is a 53 plate and I will outline the faults so far:
1) Howling sunroof that gets an air lock at 65mph and is awful on the motorways...
2) Sqeaking brakes / knocking noises under car !!
3) Radio will not stay tuned in and crackles all of the time.
4) Electric windows rattle and the glass vibrates against the metal runners.
5) The steering wobbles at 65 mph...I have had the wheels balanced six times, tyres changed and still no better...
If anyone out there is thinking of buying one, ...- Read Guest's review (196 words)

No help from Renault, despite having car for 1 month never even looked at it. Garage bill of over £1000 to replace engine with recon. Had no car since Sep 07 2007(3 months) and still not fixed. Do not buy Renault they are dangerous. I am warning you before it happens to you. Look at forums on Renault engines there are many many cases, VOSA surely know about this danger too, and still no recall to these cars.- Read carlc99's review (149 words)

Have owned my Renault Scenic 1.9DCi car for 3.5 years from new. Thoroughly satisfied, best car I've driven in 30 years of motoring experience. Very spacious family car, back seats may be removed to carry assortment of goods. Great acceleration with loads of power to spare.
The very few niggles experienced were always quickly corrected by the excellent staff at Renault agent Pocklingtons of Louth. Highly recommended family car.- Read mainplantindex's review (176 words and 1 comment)

The Renault Scenic is very powerful when running, very spacious and good visibilty unlike some mpv's with 2 thick posts at the front windscreen / side window area. Excellent for towing trailers apart from you have to make sure you don't forget the trailer is there as it is very powerful. Excellent on motorways driving at normal speeds giving excellent fuel consumption. Bit disappointed in the fact that it has been in garage 5+ times. Renault roof bars whistle quite a bit unlike old versions. If ...- Read titanic1966's review (378 words)

My Renault Scenic is only 11 months old and is in the garage in Lincoln again. Engine cut out totally on overtaking and brakes always have been a sticky problem. Major electronic faults and, they said it was fixed, but we were not happy as "loss of faith" in it, as it nearly killed my whole family, they replaced a CPI or something. I was told that it shouldn't have happened in the first place and the CPI is not the underlying of the problem. Scary is an understatement. It's been in the garage 4 ...- Read DAVISON's review (178 words)

This is s copy of a letter I sent to renault regarding the
Renault Scenic 1.9DCi People Carrier to which 12 months later I have yet to receive a response.
I am writing with regard to one of your Renault Scenics, which I took delivery of in September 2002.
Since taking delivery of the car I have been very disappointed with the service we have received from various Renault garages throughout the UK. Right from day one we had problems, and this has continued throughout our dealings with Ren ...- Read steveab's review (1845 words and 3 comments)

I purchased my 2001 model 1.9DCi Priviledge Monaco People Carrier with just 10000 on the clock via the "Renault to go" scheme.
I purchased it as a replacement to my company car that I'd just been given the option of turning down in favour of a cash alternative, and I've never looked back.
I've covered more than 65000 miles in 3 1/2 years and its been extremely reliable.
In all that time my biggest cost has been replacement tyres (the alloys on this model are huge and decent tyres are al ...- Read bladedog's review (331 words and 3 comments)
