I've owned this car for 2.5 years and paid £5500 for it but I can honestly say that this is the worst car I've ever bought and I will not be buying another Renualt ever. I've been to the main dealer 7 times as windows keep dropping and each time parts were changed and the problems fixed (bearing in mind there are only 4 openable windows on the car!!). Driving at night on the M5 and the dashboard went out, meaning I didn't know what speed I was travelling at, how much fuel was left etc. -... (read more)

All the windows broke and was recalled for seat belt problems, engine computer went, all of theses were fixed under warranty and extended warranty. then turbo went which caused damager to engine, so a recon engine and new turbo were fitted by Renault garage along with a new fly wheel and clutch. €5500. Soon after a part that connects front wheel to steering fell of onto the road this was due to threads being reamed of by Renault garage. I repaired this my self as did not want to to take it... Bought my 2001 1.9 DCi a year ago, and so far I've encountered none of the problems that people write about on various internet forums. Mine was a 1 lady owner car, ( I rang her to confirm it.) with full service history, and it came with 108k miles on the clock. I've just passed the 119k miles mark, and it's just had a minor service to keep the book up to date, and it's been so good at the time of writing. It regularly returns 45mpg, and I've had it up to 52mpg when driving sensibly. With... (read more)

I have a 2007 1.9 diesel Grande Scenic bought through Motor Provider at a big discount four years ago. It is a fantastic family car with a great view out for the kids when they were little and storage areas for everything. Now the kids are older there is huge space for an entire drum kit and other musical parapheralia. Great performance from the big diesel and average of about 45 mgp on a long run and about 38mpg on the school run. Light bulbs occasionally fail and the radio has lost the... (read more)

Scenic 1.9 DCI,2004
The previous review is uncannily similar to my experience - bought second hand and 1 month after the warranty ran out the dashboard went, then the power setting on the fan (needs the dash out again) and now we have just had a new turbo fitted but the thing keeps smoking when accelerating (not idle or revving on standstill) - spent a grand trying to fix and still no clues/solution. We loved the car to start with but it has proved a costly mistake in the end as aside from...

There appears to be 2 known faults :-
1.top engine mounting gives a droning vibration at about 3-4 thousand revs before changing gear. This is due to the rubber in the old engine mounting going hard, passing vibration through bodywork. The new mounting has fins and additional bits to stop this problem.
2. The resister pack for the heater fan on both my 53 and 54 plate scenics both went wrong due to a design fault. There is a replacement pack with cabling mod to fix the problem which Renault...

We changed from a Focus C-Max Ghia 2 litre turbo diesel for the 1.9 DCi Grand Scenic Dynamique when we had another child. Although the car had a lot of extra space, it has proved worse in almost every other respect. Renault customer service is worse even than Peugeot, which I thought was impossible. Very poor value for money. A great shame as this car had potentially so much going for it - but the build quality and customer service is just dire. (read more)

Dealers make all the difference with Renaults. Our 54 Grand Scenic 1.9dCi has had a few minor problems (electric window, glowplugs, limp home mode), but all have been fixed first time by our local dealer who are both honest and very knowledgeable. Space - the Renault Scenic is like a TARDIS, small & manouverable on the outside but huge on the inside. Plenty of room for driver and passengers & a wonderful configuration of seating that allows it to be a five-seat MPV or a van! My diesel has done 50mpg consistently over 7 years of ownership. I love this little car and would gladly replace my existing 9-year old (130,000 mile) model for another one only younger & with less miles on it. (read more)

The car is a 53 plate and I will outline the faults so far:
1) Howling sunroof that gets an air lock at 65mph and is awful on the motorways...
2) Sqeaking brakes / knocking noises under car !!
3) Radio will not stay tuned in and crackles all of the time.
4) Electric windows rattle and the glass vibrates against the metal runners.
5) The steering wobbles at 65 mph...I have had the wheels balanced six times, tyres changed and still no better...
If anyone out there is thinking of buying...

The Renault Scenic is very powerful when running, very spacious and good visibilty unlike some mpv's with 2 thick posts at the front windscreen / side window area. Excellent for towing trailers apart from you have to make sure you don't forget the trailer is there as it is very powerful. Excellent on motorways driving at normal speeds giving excellent fuel consumption. Bit disappointed in the fact that it has been in garage 5+ times. My Renault Scenic is only 11 months old and is in the garage in Lincoln again. Engine cut out totally on overtaking and brakes always have been a sticky problem. Major electronic faults and, they said it was fixed, but we were not happy as "loss of faith" in it, as it nearly killed my whole family, they replaced a CPI or something. I was told that it shouldn't have happened in the first place and the CPI is not the underlying of the problem. Scary is an understatement. It's been in the... (read more)

I agree with this review because... we have had the unfortunate pleasure of owning a scencic 1.9dci privalege for just under one year. Our car has spent more time in the garage than on the road. The latest fault being, the engine has completely blown up. Although the car is still in warranty renault will not uphold it and are expecting us to pay the £5000 to have it replaced. To add insult to injury our car is a taxi therefore for every day it is off the road my partner is not earning. The list of faults with the car is endless but here are a few. New dashboard, three sets of window motors, 2 cv joints, 2 sets of lower ball joints, water motor, windscreen wiper motor, engine mount, 2 wheel bearings, cd player, 2 sets of keys, trims fallen off the door seals, flat spot on accellertion. middle console sirvo gone, master cylinder on clutch blew up. As you can see we are at the end of our tether with renault and would never reccommend anyone to buy one.

I purchased my 2001 model 1.9DCi Priviledge Monaco People Carrier with just 10000 on the clock via the "Renault to go" scheme.

Headlight bulbs cost around £40 at Renault to fix , but if you can unclip the washer reservoir neck from the body and black hose, then slide your hand behind the light, remove the rubber cover carefully. Then turn the bulb anti clockwise, you can remove the bulb and do the same in reverse to replace it. (drivers side). For passenger side you have to remove battery cover as well. But basically for £7.50 ish at Halfords you can save over £30 and sometimes over £60. Comment from Renault garage is that they technically have to remove bumper etc and hence the charge of £40-£70 even though they sometimes do the same as I did, taking minutes not hours.

I needed left side headlight bulb replacing and Renault wanted £100+ to carry out the task, after much complaining they agreed to do it for £25. Right hand side has now gone, it looks more accessible behind the headlight unit, so hope I can do the job myself. Previous comment suggests twisting the bulb anti-clockwise to remove, my car is a 2005 model can someone confirm this is correct and can you get the bulb from Halfords.
