“A Disgrace”

★☆☆☆☆

written by JeanPaulSatre4 on 28/03/2023

I have just received a Comte de Chambord rose. It’s a disgrace. Only two short stems crossed firmly one over the other. Imagine how long that will take to develop properly. I will never risk buying any plant from Crocus. Totally unprofessional. I have asked them to respond and will follow up here.

“They send dreadful twigs then want you to pay postage...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Phil Clay on 02/10/2020

My first and last purchase with this company. They want you to pay postage both ways (£25 return yes £25 for a box that was £7 to send out)on terrible plants they post to you. They charge full price for stuff you would laugh at in a garden centre. Then they want you to take photos to send to a *plant doctor* maybe have him on the packing line and save a lot of hassle. Please if you are thinking of buying don't waste your time. If you do make sure you write a review. Disappointed

“Totally dissatisfied”

★☆☆☆☆

written by MrsBCCh on 29/06/2020

Order took 5 weeks, though mainly seeds and fertilizers! Very Expensive Seeds came in packets with pale print that can hardly be read and no illustrations whatsoever! The two plants, though well packed, were unsatisfactory: the gooseberry plant was not pot grown, just came in a pot with roots in loose soil. The house plant - Sansevieria - had only two green tips out of 12 - ten were brown and dry. Regret making my order.

“Crocus, Covid19 and Customer Care”

★☆☆☆☆

written by growinggarden on 30/05/2020

I have given Crocus one star owing to their appalling customer care and lack of human kindness during this trying time when people are losing their jobs. I ordered some bedding plants in April, the total cost of which was immediately taken from me. I knew there would be a delay of at least six weeks before the order would arrive and reluctantly accepted this. After all we're all trying to exist in difficult times aren't we. However, on 24th April following unexpected financial difficulties arising from the Covid19 fallout and through no fault on my own, I sadly decided to cancel my order requesting a much needed refund. Given that Crocus customers are expected to be tolerant and sympathetic to their current delivery delays, it never crossed my mind that my unfortunate circumstances would be met other than sympathetically. But no. Instead I was promptly told I could not cancel my order because 'suppliers have said they will not fulfill any requests to amendments or cancellations due to the sheer volume and how busy they are'. I was dumbfounded. I was hardly requesting bespoke furniture and how come Crocus use a supplier anyway? I appealed to Crocus three times about this, but they have refused to show any kindness or understanding, just complete indifference and choosing to blame their supplier. It's now 29th May, and needless to say I still haven't received my order and Crocus have had my money for just on six weeks. Oh, and I’ve also just received one of their circulars saying, ‘we’re sorry for the delay…we’ve been let down by one of our suppliers …blah blah…we care blah blah …and shipping will be from 8th June.’ I simply despair! Well Crocus, whilst I've purchased products from you in the past, never ever again! Such callous and selfish treatment from you. To all the future customers out there, I would recommend you find a more understanding plant supplier and steer well clear of this one.

“Six weeks on, still waiting for my plants”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Sevy56 on 18/05/2020

I ordered over 100.00 worth of bedding plants on 6th April. Supposed to arrive early May. I tried to cancel order by email and was told that there was a note on the product page saying cancellation after ordering was not possible. I saw no message when ordering. Come early May, another message. Their supplier let them down. Delivery now 31st May! Tried to cancel again as I believe I am within my rights. I am now unable to receive delivery as am not home due to I'll health. They don't reply to emails, Twitter,Facebook or phone. I am apalled by the terrible customer service. Do NOT give them your money.

written by OliveWalsh on 07/05/2016

Customer service???? Absolute joke! I've used crocus several times (NEVER AGAIN) it started off well, plants were good quality, delivery good etc....last two deliveries I have had a problem ....absolutely no reply to emails....on the phone they can't help you as the customer centre is another building and they can't transfer you!!! I am absolutely appalled that they can treat customers so badly. AVOID (incase you ever have a problem that you want resolved!)

“Conned by free next day delivery offer”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Ryan334 on 28/04/2016

Typed in FREEDEL at checkout but was charged £6.99 for delivery. Money taken in a flash. Spent the rest of the morning trying to cancel the order, it has been despatched anyway with delivery charge. I was given the run around by 3 customer services staff, fobbing me off with stupid reasons for free next day delivery not meaning free next day delivery. They were going to sort it out, they have now gone home without doing a thing. I am disgusted, I feel as though I have been tricked. If I had known I would be charged for delivery I would not have placed the order. The local garden centres would be much better value £6.99 delivery for one small item is absurd.

Crocus Customer Services emailed to say that £6.99 has been credited to my account and their IT department has been told of the problem.
The young lady who dealt with this deserves full marks, and she has restored my faith in the company!

“never again!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by l_Reiske on 11/04/2016

I ordered £200 worth of plants from this company. When they arrived one whole box (out of 3) were missing. I rang their customer service number about 40 times over the course of 48 hours, they didn't answer once! I instead rang their sales line, they refused to help. I emailed three times, no response. The missing plants eventually turned up. All plants were tiny and raggedy. Could have bought plants three times bigger for the same price from local garden centre. So, so disappointed, would never ever use again

“Very disappointed ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by flWood364 on 17/02/2016

Will not be ordering any from crocus again. I ordered several items, most available for delivery in 2-3 days but one item within 4 weeks. Only upon confirmation of the order did it say that everything would arrive in the longest time stated. As most of the items were birthday presents this was no good so I emailed crocus and was told I would have to pay two delivery charges or could cancel the items that would take longest. Decided to cancel the whole order as this was not made clear during the ordering process. Very poor customer service

“Wrong plants!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by WallsRobert on 16/06/2014

After twice buying what where supposed to be Lavender Hidcote from other garden centres which turned out to be something else, I decided to buy from Crocus, as I imagined they might be able to supply the correct variety. I picked up eight healthy plants that have grown well but they, once again, are clearly not Hidcote as they have flowered grey and not blue. I find it incredible that a supposedly professional supplier cannot supply the correct variety!

“Some OK plants, rubbish service”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Jaysong173 on 14/06/2014

Large order arrived swiftly: reasonable plants, nothing special. I planted immediately and most are doing OK. However, the anemone japonica White Swan, which I planted within a metre of, and in identical conditions to, a thriving clump which I planted last year have wilted and died within a week despite proper preparation and watering. I have emailed twice with a photograph and had no response. I have phoned the customer care line twice, and each time been put through to the order line who were unable to help in any way. Extremely frustrating. I won't order from them again. I suggest you don't either.

“Crocus ignored all contacts regarding poor quality...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by joffi on 01/10/2013

We bought a rotavator from these people 18 months ago. It had less than 24 hours total use and the plastic control lever snapped off, so we contacted them about it, first by email and then recorded delivery. They have ignored both. Don't expect any sort of service if things go wrong, they don't want to know.

“Good customer service - awful plants”

★☆☆☆☆

written by GardenerinFrance on 17/08/2013

Having ordered 8 items only seven arrived in the most appalling condition. Most were half dead and had been squashed into the packing box. Arrived after a week not the 2/3 days promised. Plants could be bought from a nursery at lower prices and better condition. However customer service was excellent and I was offered a full refund and collection of plants immediately.

Yes, you would probably do better to buy from B & Q next year. This is the company that bedecked the Queen's Jubilee Barge, believe it or not, so there is definitely and 1st class and a 3rd class, depending who you are...

“Terrible value”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 10/06/2013

I only recieved half of my order, some of the plants were broken the rest were the worst quality you could get! They dumped it outside my house in a broken box! I tried to ring them but no one was taking responsibility and kept me waiting me on the phone (at ?p a minute) and then passing me from one clues less department to another. Finally they arranged to come and pick it up and issue a refund but they didn't come on the day we arranged and I am still waiting for my refund from May!

“Echinacea Hell!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Braidman on 30/05/2013

. Ordered 9 echinacea plants through The Daily Telegraph but the invoice was from Crocus, they arrived well packed but the ""plants"" in 9cm pots were only single shoots not plants as I know them! The compost was completely sodden, and most of the ""plants"" were completely rotten, just mush! They replaced 7 of them, these arrived from RHS plants, and were exactly the same as before! When I contacted them again they said after about a week waiting that they had contacted one of their gardening experts who said I should plant them and give them a chance for 3 to 4 weeks this with plants that were completely rotten! They have refunded half of the cost and I am left with two plants that have shown some sort of life! And to cap it all, crocus was supplying plants to some of the show garden at Chelsea, bet they received better plants than me! So Daily Telegraph, RHS and especially Crocus hang your heads in shame! NEVER AGAIN!

I complained about my order of plants (that were not even fit to be planted in my garden) in a detailed letter to one of the Directors, who couldn't even be bothered to reply. I accepted a refund of half cost, which was a mistake, as the plants went on to die completely. Yes it is shame on them: as well as Chelsea, they supplied the plants for the Jubilee Barge last year.

“terrible customer service”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 28/05/2013

I would not ever use this company. I wanted to purchase a plant on special offer, however when I added it to my basket and went to the checkout, it was giving me the normal price. I phoned their customer service to check and the lady told me I was wrong. When I very politely pointed out that there was obviously a problem on their website and what we could do about it, she shouted at me and put the phone down. Honestly, I have never ever encountered such hostile and terrible customer service - all I was trying to do was to check. I have worked in customer service myself before and I know what people can be like on the phone, so I am very careful to be polite. This has left me quite shaken, it is obviously not only the customers who can be terrible!

“So, so disappointing - never again”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 17/05/2013

I've recently ordered a large selection of plants from Crocus, excellent site, easy to compare plants, ideal for planning new borders (as I am doing) but Oh! So disappointing - plants arrived badly packaged, agapanthus crushed together in flimsy cardboard boxes that weren't strong enough to take the weight of the plants let alone stand up to the rigours of the delivery man! Shrubs in very poor condition, smaller plants just left to rattle around in boxes resulting in everyone of them arriving out of their pots, compost scattered everywhere and root balls crushed and damaged, I could go on but I hope you have the picture - so photographs attached I emailed Crocus and asked for their comments on the damaged plants I had to deal with. No reply. I sent a second email and asked for their comments and a suggestion of what they were going to do to compensate me for the losses. No reply. So I sent a third email with somewhat stronger wording and still no reply!!! My next step will be to phone but for all those considering ordering from Crocus I urge you to think again, this company obviously have no loyalty to customers and will happily take your money, send second rate plants in second rate packaging and then refuse to communicate with you. So, so disappointing

“Ignored Delivery instruction, ambiguity on delivery ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 04/09/2012

Ordered a plant with crocus. took 4 days to arrive, note stated 'within 2-3 days'. When queried, they advised that their courier does not operate on Saturdays, which is fair enough, but this is not made explicit at any stage of the ordering process, nor on the website so far as I can see. All they need to do to remove this ambiguity is change the wording to 'within 2-3 working days'. Second point, delivery instruction completely ignored, negating the whole purpose of it. Asked for the package to be left in a discrete sheltered location. Instead was left in an open and exposed location on the other side of the house. Third point, Whilst the customer service were initially apologetic, they refused to offer any kind of refund on the delivery for this poor service. They reluctantly offered a voucher when pushed, which I may have accepted had I felt compelled to do repeat business with them, but considering there are so many alternatives out there, it doesn't seem worth taking a risk with them again in the future.

I don't want vouchers either for poor goods or service - & they never include postage - but seem more like a marketing incentive to buy again. I addressed the problems I had with this company to director level, but they didn't take the time to reply to me personally, which somewhat surprised me, nor did they address the issues I made about abysmal plants etc. I doubt if I will buy from this company again, and as you say there are many alternatives out there. At least your plant was alive!
