Good Points: Has a good display, good CD playback and a nice bright display.

Bad Points: After about a year of use and not every day, the RCA unit started being intermittent about working.

General comments: playing a CD and messing around with the remote I pressed pause then the forward key it plays CDs at 1/4 1/2 and I think it is 7/8 speed and it will do the same backwards at normal speed or slow. Hey this is great for finding secret messages on CD, like the secret message on the Pink Floyd CD It says "congratulations you have found the secret message".

The RCA RC5215P is terrible. It is my backup DVD player (when the kids want to watch something for the 10th time of the day) and hardly ever got used. One day it decided it was not going to play DVD's. If you turn it on and off 300 times it will play. Too bad it was a decent player.

Worked fine for about a year, then went completely dead. Turned out the problem was a small basket had been set on it (weighing about 1.5 kilos) and worked fine when basket removed. Recently have had several DVDs that have been rented receive error message "incompatible disk"; this is not most disks, but has happened several times. Anyone know why? "Gold" disks such as "Fellowship of the Ring" work fine, as do most regular disk, while others such as "10 Ways to Lose a Guy" and "Basic" get th ...

This was our my parents' first DVD player. When I moved out of the house, I received it as a housewarming present. I have to say, it worked well for the first couple of years.

However, for all of you who say that your RC5215P works fine...just wait. This DVD player played DVDs beautifully until one day when it simply did not work. It had not been misused or moved from its original location, yet there was no digital display, no sound, and no picture. I have searched for troubleshooting ti ...

My unit died completely after 8 months. There have been so many others making the same comment, that this is obviously a design flaw. Of course, the warranty period is only 3 months.

The drive mechanism hums and vibrates so loudly during normal play that it is annoyingly apparent during quiet passages in movies.

Buy from an manufacturer who shows confident in their products by offering a 1-year warranty. The December 2002 Consumer Reports lists several such manufacturers: Sony, Sanyo, S ...

I have had this player for over a year now. It has worked fine on all dvd's I have run, but am having trouble getting VCD's to go. I figure that this was one of the first low cost dvd players on the market, and that's probably why all the troubles, but like I said, mine playys DVD perfectly.

I am glad to hear that I am not the only one to deal with this problem. I have an RCA 36 inch television and it works fine so we thought that we would buy the RCA RC5215P dvd player to go with it, boy were we wrong. I don't even give this thing 2 months before it started to act up with the freezing, and the skipping. We also thought it was our cd's. We tried to rent them and same thing. I am glad to hear that it isn't only us, but I am sorry that we all lost money on this garbage.

I love RCA products but this thing is horrible. My RCA RC5215P DVD player bit the dust. It won't play all my DVD's and when it does it skips...and the discs are clean. It doesn't play CD-R & CD-RW's or Video CDs. After about nine months it began having errors and incompatible disc messages. It also fluctuates from light to dark during normal play, even from the begining. I will try to get my product replaced with a new up-grade, if not I will be contacting people to file a class action suit. Aft ...

I have owned my RCA RC5215P DVD player for just over a year (so of course the warranty no longer covers it) and it has bit the dust. It no longer powers on. After unplugging and replugging several times, I finally disconnected the entire unit and noticed an odour - that of burnt out motor parts. From the moment I connected the player after buying it I noticed how hot it would get, but didn't think it was that big of a deal. Apparently it is and now I'm forced to buy a new (NON-RCA) DVD player le ...

This RCA RC5215P DVD player will make you bitter towards RCA!!! After consistantly melting and freezing after about 45 minutes of play, I'm finally on my way out to buy a new progressive scan player.

This RCA RC5215P DVD player has to be the worst electronic anything I have ever purchased! This waste of space played a few movies before locking up continuously. After replacing three times, the last unit worked for three months before it stopped functioning all together. I will never buy another RCA product for as long as I live....this thing is so terrible it defies words. Why would anyone build this hunk of junk?

I have had the RCA RC5215P DVD player for almost a year and don't have any problems at all. The only complaint is the user menu is not really user friendly. You have to go a mile and a half to get where you are going. I think it's a great cheap DVD player. As been said before. You get what you pay for. Its cheap.

I bought this piece of garbage without reading the reviews- I won't again. This RCA RC5215P dvd slayer melts the picture, as if it is trying to break it down pixel by pixel. Do not buy this. There is not one good review on this thing.

I shouldn't have cheaped out on a low cost DVD player like the RCA RC5215P. Now I'm stuck with buying yet another one. After 5 months it does not play DVD's anymore. Gives an incompatible disk error, even on new DVD's or older ones that I have played a million times. No more RCA products for me!

My wife recently purchased one these units for me for Christmas. And, as above, nothing but problems. What a disappointment to load the first brand new DVD into the unit and an "Incompatible Disc Error Message" comes up. We called the service tech via a 1-800 number. Went through the hoops and was given an SR#. We sent the package off to Ontario, Canada. Thomson Multimedia Distribution Center. They in turn sent us a refurbished unit. Well, the word "Refurbished" should have have warned me. This ...

As with others I received my RCA RC 5215P DVD player as a birthday present two weeks out of warranty-would not come on. I call RCA customer service and could have exchanged the unit for 119.50. After seeing the reviews aborted the idea of getting another with all the reported problems went out and bought a Sony

My RCA RC521P DVD player began to freeze up, and eventually after 3 months of little use, the player stopped playing any DVD's or CD's. Contacted RCA for warranty info (no toll free number in the U.S). The ONLY option was to replace the unit at a cost of $89.95. Way to stand behind your products RCA. If you do the research, you'll find many others who experienced similar problems.
My Pioneer DVD player is much better (small, quiet, reliable).

I will never buy another RCA product and will advise all family and friends to do the same. My problems with my RC521P DVD player are the same as the others - screen freezing and not being able to complete a movie. Looks like a scam to have this many problems. Sounds like a matter for small claims court. DON'T BUY RCA ANYTHING !!!!

After six months, my RCA RC5215P DVD player started to fail - freezing and melting the screen. Now, after 6 months of struggling with the customer service reps to get it fixed, it no longer even recognizes DVDs in the drive.

Bought this RCA RC5215P DVD player at nearly fully price ($220) when it was new. Now have an HD ready TV so will be buying a progressive scan DVD. Due to poor reviews here, I won't even sell it as planned, but will give it away, and won't buy another RCA DVD.
