Good Points: Location, location, location.
Friendly helpful staff.
Good pool.
Well tended tropical gardens.
Monkeys !
Bad Points: A and B block.
General comments: Holiday beach club is set in an enviable position at the quieter side of senegambia. First impressions are good with colourful well tended tropical gardens and nice looking terraces of whitewashed single storey accomodation buildings. Freindly smiling helpful staff soon had us moved into our room, what a let down, away from the main complex in a garden annexe, A and B blocks are two storey blocks with a terrace or balcony, and although clean they are quite run down in terms of fixtures and fittings and do not have much of a view. Our first night there we eat at ali baba's on the strip and then crashed out after a long days travel. Next morning woke refreshed and hungry, next let down - breakfast. Bread, cheese, bananas, cold meat, tea and coffee, thats it, not good, oh well this is 2 star Africa.
A walk down to the beach through lovely gardens and past a good sized well kept pool brings you out onto the Kololi beach, a vast stretch of sand running in both directions with plenty of beach bars to choose from. We stayed here for two weeks in April and the area was quiet, with a few bars closing for the 'off ' season. There was however plenty to do out and about, the day trip to Senegal with ARCH tours was very good as was a lazy day on the river Gambia onboard a large well equipped pirogue.
I would reccomend Kololi holiday beach club hotel to anyone who is looking for a base from which to explore the surrounding area, it is child friendly and generaly well run. It would also be ideal for a poolside holiday although food and drink prices were quite high.

We stayed at Kombo Beach last year but the money situation forced a downgrade this year.We booked "First Choice" and they use 2 "Cell Blocks" that are annexed outside the main complex. Our room B 10 was dark/dingy/dirty.Garden view was looking into a clump of trees, wardrobe and toilet doors did not fit and on the maids day off we had to wait until 6.15pm to get our room done and some towels.Sunbed ratio was very low and you need to reserve at 7.30am to get one.Breakfast of bread & jam/bread & sp ...- Read G Dean's review (157 words and 1 comment)

The rooms at Holiday Beach Club Hotel, Kololi, are well maintained and very clean. All staff are very friendly and extremely helpful....not everyone looks for something in the Gambia contrary to belief. The beautiful hotel grounds are meticulously kept and are made up of well established palm trees, shrubs, bushes and flowers.....very beautiful. There are little paths leading to each apartment block.
As most people have probably written about their whole holiday I will just tell you about the h ...- Read Anne Doc's review (495 words)

We have stayed at holiday beach club hotel twice and have just booked to go again, we love the place, the people and the whole atmosphere of Gambia. It may be basic but that adds to the gambian experience. If you want luxury then its not for you but if you want to experience Africa as it is then we recommend Gambia. You will get hassled but you get used to it.- Read trevboy's review (103 words)

first of all i would recommend this destination to anyone who is interested in a relaxing pool/beach holiday as you can relax round the pool without being hassled and you can enjoy a nice meal which will be delivered to your sun bed by very polite waiters :) the beach is great but waves can get a bit out of hand at times so if entering with small children be aware. The weather was amazing, sometimes a little to hot but I cant say I complained , got back to england and everyone was complementing ...- Read lamorna Parnell's review (446 words)

Fantastic holiday, even better than the first time we stayed here. The people are amazing and so helpful. If you want a holiday where you feel spolit this is the place to go. Great food with plenty of choice. Nightlife is great, just takes a bit of getting used to (completely different to England) but well worth losing sleep for. The hotel is basic but very clean, we visited some higher rated hotels and they were not as good as Holiday Beach. If you want a luxury hotel with all the mod cons this ...- Read ang and em's review (153 words)

Don't be put off by some reviews. I read of one couple who called The Gambia mozzie land. Hello people it is Africa, what were they expecting midges, which is the Scottish term for a small mosquito equivalent. I have two friends who have been coming out to The Gambia for over twenty years and the only place they stay is the Holiday Beach Hotel. Adama, Fatima and everyone else, in the words of Governor Schwarzenegger, I'll be back.- Read stula1's review (147 words)

I managed to stay in Holiday Beach Club Hotel for 20 minutes! Though I was booked to stay for two weeks. The staff were OK but the owner was possibly the most rude, obstructive, uncooperative and aggressive man that I have ever met in the Gambia.- Read ioneel's review (45 words)

A great place to stay, very central to everything, rooms are clean but not posh, you need to get used to regular power cuts and sometimes a lack of water but it all adds to the Gambian experience, food at the hotel was not great but there are plenty of restaurants close by that are good. Try the Scala restaurant, Paradiso, Tao, Ali Baba Garden, they're all very good. I am sure you will have a great time at this hotel but if it's not your cup of tea you may spend time in any other hotel close by, ...- Read mbbanner's review (194 words)

I have been to the Gambia now about 7 times and have stayed in this area most of them trips, it is a great place to go for winter sunshine and very cheap if you look around and book on the web £215 each inc all taxes etc for a weeks b and b in December, can't be bad and 90 degrees every day.
But there is one thing that I would advise you all to do, this year on the flight coming back I had my luggage rifeld through and it could only had been at Banjul airport there were 3 watches stolen a ...- Read knobbynonuts's review (302 words)

Great base to enjoy the delights of The Gambia. Only downside was the difficulties we had with young males hassling you outside the Hotel. As soon as you passed through the gate they were there, wanting to talk to you, take you places and then get paid for it!- Read ash3606's review (84 words)

This Holiday Beach Club Hotel is a good base for a holiday in The Gambia. Having visited a few other resort areas this is definitely the biggest and has the largest choice (which isn't that big!)
The Gambia is a great country to visit, the weather is beautiful and it's very interesting and certainly open's your eyes to the way most African's live. I would recommend getting out and about away from the tourist area as this is where you see the real Gambia.
The local's are friendly, often ove ...- Read abbyt1904's review (215 words and 1 comment)

The Holiday Beach Club Hotel, Kololi, was quiet and our room faced the sea which was lovely. At first we were a bit shocked with the room but when compared to the rest of the Gambia, started to look good. It was very basic and not too dirty (rather than clean!). Pool area was nice. Staff friendly and most were not too overbearing. Breakfast very basic. Plenty of extras could be bought at hotel if requires such as fridge, air con, better rooms etc.- Read julietfelgate's review (105 words and 1 comment)

Holiday Beach Club Hotel is nice for families, the walk from the road down the drive is aprox. 100 meters. There is a nice beach bar where you can also eat during the day. It has certainly got the best pool area of the hotels I saw and you can walk into the other ones for a drink or meal if you wish.
There are plenty of places to eat, Chinese, Indian, Lebanese, Italian, Nigerian, Gambian and English within easy walking distance. There is a bar where you can watch the footie on satelite, superma ...- Read Frank Dawson's review (105 words)

The Beach Club Hotel is situated in lovely grounds however it is a long walk down the hotel driveway and some rooms are a good walk away from the pool etc. Would only recommend this hotel to independent travellers who don't intend to spend much time there. Not good value for money - especially when booked as a package.- Read eburrows's review (100 words)
