Good Points: Staff, serenity, activities.
Bad Points: OK, its a bit expensive, but you're happy to pay it in England, so what's the difference?
General comments: I go to this hotel twice a year and I think its the best in The Gambia. Its location is out-of-the-way but it states this in the brochure so should not come as a shock to anyone. I love the location as I don't go there to 'party' but to relax and talk to the locals and hotel staff.
The people are the friendliest I have ever met - even the 'bumsters'. Just tell them your don't want anything or have nothing to give them and they will instead become your friends and tell you far more than the tour operators will. A lot of the 'bumsters' and hotel staff have now become great friends of mine and I visit their families and they visit mine when visiting England.
Food is always to a high standard - yes might be nice to have more Gambian food, but if people in the majority don't want this then they are not going to waste the food by preparing it. There is always plenty of choice and plenty of it.
Air conditioning is in both the rooms and hotel building and is always on. Flies and mosquitoes are a problem but this is due to the humidity of the country and not the hotel standards. Bedrooms are sprayed every night by the porters...the people that choose not to have their rooms sprayed are often the ones complaining the most! funny that...
Rooms are always clean and well maintained and the maids lovely to talk to.
People need to remember they are visiting a third world country so can't expect the Hilton - visit and enjoy the culture and put your feet back on the ground and join us in the real world and you will see what a beautiful and friendly country this is.

A well worn hotel that was just average, staff are fine but the food was rubbish, just basic in the buffet and the a la carte was just awful!
If you are thinking of booking in at the Atlantic, don't do it!- Read Giggy's review (278 words)

This is my third time in The Gambia ('93, '02). It's a place that can be intimidating if you have the bumsters following you around. I took the Mrs and my son aged 5 to visit my Dad who has retired out there. Make sure you go for a wander around Banjul during the day as there is lots to see. There are also loads of corner shops that sell baguette sandwiches that you can have buttered and filled with stuff such as corned beef, sardines or chicken, for the equivalent of 20 pence! Have your breakfa ...- Read Malik Gye's review (288 words)

The hotel should not be a 4 star hotel. How people can say they go back year after year is beyond me, they must be very sad people and never been or seen anywhere else. I have travelled with First Choice before, they have all been excellent. This hotel should be down graded to maybe a 2 star. I know its a third World country, I do understand but put some airconditioning in there and then it could be a 5 star.- Read alanwinch's review (121 words and 1 comment)

We have stayed at Atlantic Hotel four times in the last ten years and still think it's the best hotel even though the bar and snack meal prices are high. e.g.
Coffee 45 dalassi, beer 70/100 dalassi (£1 = 46 dalaassi). The beach has now been vastly improved and the staff are ultra- friendly.
Highly recommended especially for first time visitors- Read rogber's review (63 words)

On the whole Atlantic Hotel was a very nice holiday and very good value for money. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. At times there was hassle if sitting by the pool or on the beach to buy things which I did not like.
It would be nice if the people in the hotel or just outside on the beach did not expect gifts all the time. Such as the postcard man wanted me to give him my sunglasses that were prescription ones and had cost well over £200. He seemed to think because I was on h ...- Read hammie111's review (232 words)

Atlantic Hotel was great, I can't fault anything. The rooms were clean and the hotel was surrounded by lovely gardens. The food was great, entertainment ok, and the beach fine. The only disappointment was that the pool was a little on the small side and there was no children's club.- Read anjane's review (78 words)

Banjul, Atlantic Hotel - An absolutly fantastic hotel with exceptionally high standard throughout. I would definitely recommend it to family and friends. The location does let it down a little as there is very little outside the hotel, no bars/restraunts other than one which is a shame.- Read jackie church's review (140 words and 1 comment)
