The African Village is such a lovely place full of welcoming smilies most of the time. Our family learn more of the culture every time we go, our Africa friends may not have a lot but our holidays there make us feel so humble and realise our roots.
My grandson of 3 was there last year and even learnt the local language I recommend the Village.

We weren't sure what to expect as we had never been to the Gambia before. The staff at the hotel are very welcoming. The first room we were allocated was not very nice and in poor condition so we made comment and then were allocated a much nicer room (as per the room we booked) They were very helpful once we had said we weren't happy. We weren't that bothered about luxuries and ended up loving the hotel. The food is very good, we dined in the restaurant quite a few times. We started to make use ...

Friendly, intimate, nice pool, (although you're either in or out.- no steps, only a ladder into the deep part! Kept clean). For the grade it's a good menu. Try the fish fingers (not Capt Birdseye shape, so your kids maybe disappointed). Battered fish "sausages" and pure local fish! Best sea views in Gambia as high on mini cliff. Steepish path down to sand-covered concrete sunbathing platform - a lot nicer than it sounds. Swimming from here is not really practical due tide and rocks, but plenty o ...

A welcoming friendly hotel I went with my family and met some lovely people a different step back in time. You will either love it or hate it. Me and my partner love the Gambia sun sea chill, we have fond our destination.

Although the room and amenities were relatively basic the hotel had a great feel to it. The private beach was never crowded and the staff always had a smile on their face. My room was clean and comfortable, I'd definitely go back.....

Gambia is a wonderful country with wonderful people. The scenery is outstanding and the people are always smiling and charming. Everywhere is good value for money. The Hotel maybe basic but is very friendly and very clean. If you want to go anywhere the Hotel staff will arrange it for you straight away. I would stay there again without any problems.

The African Village Hotel in The Gambia is an excellent value hotel. It is 2 star, so don't go there if you want 4 star. Rooms are basic, but they do the job! Breakfasts are adequate, and better than that if you have inventive ideas with boiled eggs! Outside the hotel is a hassle with the locals, but as I went off season, this is to be expected. The airline - Astraeus was excellent. No beach to walk along is a drawback, but not a real problem as the man made one is kind of exclusive! The restaur ...

Bakau, African Village Hotel - More African in feel than many other European-style hotels in the Gambia. Rooms very basic but the laid-back atmosphere in the hotel more than makes up for the lack of frills. My wife and I have been many times and keep bumping into the same people year after year which tells you somthing. Handy for fishing bait and tackle shop.
