I thought the blue star hotel was the best hotel I have ever stayed in I no some of the reviews are a bit mean but the blue star is a brilliant hotel. The staff are really friendly a big shout out to Hugh and Dean who are a great friend of ours and great staff. The reception is crazy in a good way its on the top then you get an out door lift down to your floor. Our apartment was right beside the pool it was great. We had a shop beside the reception and that had most of the things you need.... (read more)

I and my family stayed with Blue Star and returned to the UK on 25th October 2010. What can I say? The best part about the holiday was the more than excellent service we received from the staff at the hotel. I must make particular reference to Mo and all of the hard working staff in the pool bar/ restaurant and at the restaurant on Floor 8 who made our time their very special. We have never been fed and looked after so well.

The pool bar and restaurant offers snacks and drinks throughout... (read more)

We stayed at the blue star nov 2009, we have stayed at this hotel for the last 4 yrs twice a year and have loved it BUT it is now under new management
and they have introduced a pricing tier ! Well i,m sorry but if they want to do that then they need to spend some money on the place. The place is very basic but we noticed it had gone downhill since the takeover, not as many maids, i only saw the pool cleaned once in our weeek, there was a scum mark around the pool. Blue Star Apartments, overall convenient position. Reception staff friendly and always available. Not too big so feels more personal. There are two lifts so ignore the reviews which moan about the lift. Anyway climbing the steps helps to burn the calories! (read more)

Very clean, professional staff, clean sheets, towels, and tea towels, great views over the sea, quiet location, but near enough to be in the heart of every thing. Puerto Rico is a lovely place with lots to do check out the chill bar its a great bar with very friendly people running it, Dolphin trip is a must, all in all hotel and location food and place is absolutely fab. Taxis from top to bottom of mountain varied with each fare which I couldn't understand. (read more)

Written on: 04/03/2008

I read a few favourable reviews of this place before our trip, with people saying that it was not as bad as some other reports had stated. However, I have to say that the Blue Star Apartements is one of the worst places I have ever stayed. There are no lifts, just a rubbish gondola that takes an age to arrive, if it's even working at all. The TV in your room requires you to put coins in to watch stuff and the signal is generally rubbish anyway. We were lucky enough to sleep near the gondola... (read more)

The blue star apartments are basic. If you want somewhere cheap too stay then book at the blue star, they are just basiclly what you pay for. alot of people have complained about the life/cable cart when I was there it did not brake once. The apartments have 2 rooms a living room and a kitchenette although don't expect much in the kitchen its just 2 gas rings a fridge, kettle and hot water there is no cold water. so we had too buy big bottles from the shop. We had a good view from the... (read more)

Apartments were overall ok but VERY basic. The best floor to be on is 4th and above. No problems experienced by us, but other guests did have not hot water for several days and did move accommodation during their stay.
The BEST place to eat is the picasso restaurant which is located only a two minutes walk away from the Blue Star Apartments, the staff at picasso were fantastic and would certainly recommend it, not the cheapest of places to eat and certainly not a place for burger and chips.... (read more)

We loved the Blue Star Apartments. They are unpretentious. When we first arrived we were put into an apartment which we thought wasn't up to scratch. The following day we were moved to an apartment on the 7th Floor. No questions asked. The apartments were basic but adequate. Just a place to put your head at the end of the day. We couldn't believe the view we woke up to every morning...it was incredible!! The staff on reception are amazing, the friendliest we've ever met on our... (read more)

The Blue Star apartments are comfortable and clean and adequately equipped for an enjoyable holiday. Excellent location for shops, bars and restaurants and close to amadoras beach ( which is superb ). The apartments are at the top of a hill but just jump into an inexpensive taxi to get you anywhere you wish to go. My wife and I never saw any cockroaches the two weeks that we were there and the lift was new so there was no breakdowns at all. The bad reviewers obviously have not stayed in parts... (read more)

Taxi's are cheap and there are plenty of them to take you into town.
The Blue Star Apartments are in an OK location, it was only a short walk to the Europa centre at the top of the hill where there were bars, restaurants, shops, arcades etc.

The bar at the apartments closes at 6pm and there is no entertainment of any sort.
The apartments themselves were very basic and very dated if you are planning to go and make your own teas a couple of nights, you won't be able to. You can hire a... (read more)

Have been twice now, in 2004, 2005 and now June 2006. I love it, no problems. When we see the cats, I tried to get one back to England last year, as we saw him born in 2004 but would of cost us loads to take it back with us. Great staff, what more do you want. You get a sun bed and good weather, so why people say bad things about the Blue Star I do not know. Perhaps they want a holiday in a Palace. (read more)

After reading comments before we went, we were very apprehensive, but we were satisfied, as it was a very cheap holiday, and you get what you pay for.

We enjoyed our holiday at the Blue Star Apartments in Puerto Rico, Gran Canaria, but we would have preferred to have been able to eat in more often, as we have a fussy eater. The walk to the beautiful beach was about 20 minutes downhill, and a 3 Euro taxi ride back. If you move from bar to bar in the commercial centre, you can be in happy... (read more)

Five of us went to the Blue Star Apartments in Puerto Rico, Gran canaria, and it was everything we needed for a weeks holiday. I have stayed at nicer places, but I was more than happy with the accommodation, and I would recommend it to anyone that isn't fussy about little things and just wants to get on with a good holiday. There are nice views and a nice pool area. The food and drink was well priced The only thing that was a bit rubbish was having to hire a toaster because everyone loves toast. (read more)

Myself and my husband stayed here on our honeymoon in 2004. Not only were the staff extremely helpful when I was taken ill with food poisoning (not from hotels food may I add), but they were friendly and a good laugh. In the 3 times I have stayed at these apartments, upon request they have been loyal and kept us in the same room for two of these trips, so that I could have a private balcony. (The odd number floors have open balconies, and as I found out, people can invade them).

We absolutely loved our holiday at the Blue Star Apartments in Puerto Rico, and we are already trying to book early for next year, as we enjoyed it so much. There are lots of bad reviews on this hotel, but you have to remember some people are never satisfied, and it's rare somebody can be bothered to leave a good review, but people can't wait to dish the dirt when they aren't happy. I was thrilled when I saw all of these comments about the Blue Star Apartments, I was also very disappointed. I stayed at the Blue Star and met the pool cleaner who was very kind and people say the staff are horrible. I also didn't go in the pool and me as a lover of cats didn't mind them at all as they didn't bother you and you don't just get cats in Gran Canaria.
Overall I enjoyed my holiday and am hoping to go back later this year. (read more)

Written on: 22/08/2005 by regantheakston (1 review written)

Blue Star Apartments could possibly be the worst hotel out there. I dont know how it can stay open. The staff are rude. There are stray cats everywhere, maybe even outnumbering the cochroaches, (I said maybe). It does not look like it has been cleaned or a had a lick of paint in a long long time. Apart from the views, I can not think of a good thing to say I'm afraid. (read more)

I totally agree with "regantheakston", 1 st night gave us one room when we booked 2, dirty, not painted, staff were horrible and could barely speak english at pool bar. NO ENTERTAINMENT when it quite clearly stated entertainment ( complaining to travel agents for wrong info ). Cockroaches, stray cats and terrible apartments. Lastly rip of for money on everything and anything.

Written on: 20/08/2005 by chubbszy

We arrived at the Blue Star Apartments to be greeted by a lot of stairs which put me off a little as we had very heavy cases. When we arrived at the reception there were two girls chatting to the receptionist requesting for cockroach spray, the two girls turned to us and said "trust me you`ll need it!", when we arrived to the room we found the place riddled with the vermin, which put us off going to bed. The spray seemed to work though, but put aside our little guests, the overall holiday... (read more)

We arrived at Blue Star Apartments at 4.30pm to find we were staying on the 2nd floor and the reception was on the 9 floor. All lifts were broken so we lumped all luggage, pram and one very tired 18 month old down what felt like 6 million steps. In our room we found the beds were made but the floors had not been mopped and were dirty and sticky were the previous occupants had dropped tomato sauce on the middle of the floor. As we were with our daughter we checked out the cot. Which was... (read more)

I cannot believe these apartments are still open. I went in 2000 and i've got to say that all of the negative reveiws are absolutely right.Cockroach's greeted us as we opened our door into the apartment. There were plastic sheets covering the mattress's on the beds making it very hot and sticky of a night and the staff were very rude. I was also petrified going into the lift which is on the outside of the building, more like a cable car!!
The food they have to offer was awful, it looked like dog meat on a plate!! I have been to Gran Canaria before and really enjoyed it,my husband hadn't and we wont be going back ever again after our experience at the Blue star apartments!!!
