“What does an early 20th plumber from Bradford have in...”

★★★★★

written by callan cool. on 19/06/2003

What does an early 20th plumber from Bradford have in common with tenacious traveller Phileous Fogg? Well even although the aforementioned Fogg was a fictional character and Yorkshireman Smith Wigglesworth's (yes that's actually his real name) amazing healings seem like fiction to many, in fact they both travelled around the world, Wigglesworth for real, Fogg in fictionon. But how could a lowly working class Bradford plumber in such times 'afford' to travel worldwide and why was he in such demand?

Wigglesworth was one of the world's most prolific Faith healers, harnessing the awesome power of Holy Spirit to heal many people. Jesus said in the bible that believers would do greater works than he did on the earth, and during his prolific healing ministry Wigglesworth was living testemant to this. Whilst he died in 1946 there are still people alive today who actually witnessed the miracles that The Holy Spirit performed in Jesus' name through Wigglesworth. Wigglesworth was one of the early breed of Pentecostal ministers responsible for the growth of the Pentecostal church around the world.

Wherever he would be invited to speak, God's Holy Holy Spirit would sweep through the meeting hall or private house he was in, and as a result simply by Wigglesworth laying hands on sick and disabled people and performing many miracles of healing. Often it was simply praying that brought about the miracle. For God, no ilness was impossible to heal. (though you must remember not everyone was healed as a persons personal level faith plays a big part in Faith healing) and indeed just as Jesus healed the sick and raised the dead, so did The Holy Spirit working through Wigglesworth. And yes you did read right - I did say 'raised the dead', and instances of this are recounted in this book.Indeed the medical profession were amazed at the many miraculous healings that follwed wherever Wigglesworth went. Bed Ridden, at death's door, wheelchair bound, healings from this were almost the norm when Wigglesworth prayed.

The book is actually a collection of 18 sermons given by Wigglesworth around the world, or more accurately, the notes he prepared for those sermons. They were only compiled and published after his death, but subsequently the book has proved to be a Christian bestseller, still selling well today.

From America, to Australia, Sweden Norway and Denmark, France, Wales and Ireland , many of wigglesworths healings are recorded in this book. But it's not simply a book about healing. Thats just one side of Wigglesworths naturally supernatural (i.e. from God).talents. His annointed preachings on The Gospel and living by God's Holy Spirit were so powerful that they left a lasting impression that even today strikes deep in the heart of anyone reading any of Wigglesworths books. The book gives not only remarkable testemonies of the most amazing healings, but also an invaluble insight as to how anyone who believes in God can utilise the awesome power of The Holy Spirit to bring about remarkable changes in peoples lives. Alcholism, addictions to tobbacco and drugs can all be overcome with the power of The Holy Spirit - it's that marvelous elixir of life that people are forever searching for without realising it's right under their very noses all the time. And Wigglesworth conveys it's unstoppable force with such authority that the reader is captivated by what The Spirit guided him to write.

It didn't end with Wigglesworth's death either. Today mighty movings of The Holy Spirit stiil continue. Throughout the world, especially in Asia and Africa, God's Holy Spirit is manifesting Itself through miracles of healing through Spirit filled Christian believers. For example you can write a book about the countless number of dead people brought back to live in those continents, particularly among modern day Chinese martyrs. If you imagine that people like Doris Stokes' books have been read by thousands of people, she couldn't heal or ressurect people like Wigglesworth did when The Holy Spirit moved through him, and this book is a fitting legacy to a truly great man of God. Yes it's a religious book, but its so inspired it demands to be read. Forget the Stokes, of this world, and read something by one of the truly Great Briton's of the 20th century - it could change your way of thinking for the better.
