I had been excited about trying on Johanna Hehir dresses but was utterly disapointed by the showroom. It was a pretentious atmosphere, the staff clearly couldnt be bothered and at a size 12 every dress was too small. I would recommend that if you have your heart set on a Johanna Hehir dress find another stockist that actually wants your business... (read more)

I don't usually write online reviews, but I noticed that JH has had a couple of bad ones on this site, and so I feel obliged to give my account. I had a very clear idea of the type of dress I wanted, something with a slim silhouette and with sleeves, no veil. I had been to 7/8shops in Glasgow, Oxford, and London, and had very little success. In general, no suitable dresses (suggestions included buying a strapless one and having sleeves stitched on), and while most of the assistants were... (read more)

Johanna Hehir has beautiful and unique dresses that I found refreshingly different from the usual bridal selection. They also have plenty of dresses with straps, essential for me and somewhat difficult to find in any number at some other bridal salons. They staff had a good sense of what would suit me - they put me in a dress I wouldn't have picked off the rack, and it ended up being the one I ordered. I think they are reasonably priced for made to measure dresses, and they were very... (read more)

I bought my wedding dress from Johanna Hehir and had my wedding recently. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at the shop and my appointments were never rushed, despite my inability to make decisions on what type of dress, accesorise etc
The overall fit and length of the dress was perfect. It was almost perfect on the 3rd fitting but not quite...so I thankfully had a 4th and then it felt amazing.
You can change the look of the dress to suit you which I really appreciated.

This place gets quite mixed reviews. On the plus side - they have some beautiful dresses which won't break the bank. But I do think for a little bit more money you can go to other places where the quality is better. I really really really liked a dress here but decided against it because I felt that I couldn't rely on them to get it right or to make me feel amzing/go out of their way to make the dress perfect etc. On one occassion I had confirmed an appointment and they said I hadn't so had... I decided to go with Johanna Hehir because I could see right away that all their dresses had a certain quality about them. I think that if you have the budget, every bride should go for a made to measure gown. My dress was stunning, the material was beautiful. I particularly like their acute attention to detail and they were a fun team to deal with!

I visited this shop on recommendation from my friend but I wish I hadn't. I was made to feel very rushed throughout my appointment and even though I turned up early I was seen 20mins late. They cut my session though as another client was after me. Luckily I had another appointment booked in Knightsbridge with Emma Victoria Payne and the prices were much more reasonable and it was the designer herself who looked after me. I visited the store last week and I'm afraid to say that I had an awful time here. I was put into a small changing room at the back which was dark, cold and had no mirror. I had to come out into full view of everyone (including the guys discussing the refurb of the shop) to look in the mirror. I was also told that they 'have no dresses that would fit over your chest'. I left feeling pretty awful. I was not even asked if I would like to look through the dresses and had to sit with the... (read more)

I started out very unsure about what I wanted and picking out very understated dresses as I couldn't see myself as a bride, but with Paul's help I managed to start looking in the mirror, seeing myself in the role and found I liked a much fuller, more traditional wedding dress than I expected. He helped me see what would suit my body shape and consider what I would be trying to do in the dress, e.g. dancing, sitting, etc. It was a great experience going for a first look at wedding dresses... Hunted high and low for my dress but all would have been much less epic if I'd visited Johanna Heir earlier on in my search. I had a fabulous experience at Johanna Hehir and was made to feel extremely welcome. It was my first day of trying on dresses so was a little nervous but the team made me feel completely comfortable. I was very nervous on Saturday morning but was instantly made to feel relaxed by the very kind and patient Caroline and the whole experience was a joy. My maids and I had the small boutique to ourselves, and I was made to feel increasingly confident and adventurous throughout the appointment. We have had a number of negative reviews recently which give the impression that Johanna Hehir does not care about customer service and is very money orientated. I get the impression that they are very much after money. When I made an appointment to try on the dresses, one of the first questions they asked me was basically, "how much am I willing to spend?". Quite a snobby shop which I decided not to use in the end. We often have brides who want to make minor changes to the original design which we are usually happy to accommodate. But occasionally we get brides who want to make changes or re-design the dress in such a way that it is either technically not a good idea or unlikely to flatter the bride in our professional opinion. We are entitled to charge extra for these changes or to decline the order, particularly if we feel the bride will not like the end result. Unfortunately some brides are unwilling to accept this or pay extra.

Added in response to Paul's comment:

I should first say that I am getting my wedding dress from you and am delighted to be doing so. Also I can't comment on any changes in prices as I have not experienced any. But I do feel I have to support kateef's comment re: staff. Whilst the majority of your staff are lovely, I have found one in particular to appear extremely offhand on a number of occasions when I've been in. The worst of these involved them seeming quite rude to my bridesmaids (who had travelled a considerable distance to view my dress with me) when they - very politely - asked this staff member to bring over a few veils for me to try. Hardly an unreasonable request when in a bridal shop! They were completely taken aback and to be honest, if I hadn't already been into the shop and had a positive experience with other staff members, I certainly would not have gone ahead and purchased a dress from you.
Now I know everyone has their off days and I'm a fairly easygoing sort who normally lets stuff slide, but I'm pretty sure we are referring to the same individual so I feel I have to speak up as I don't think her point is just about an unexpected price change. It's such a shame because as I've said before, everyone else I have met at JH has been lovely, as are the dresses. I hope you manage to address it!

At Johanna Hehir, www.johanna-hehir.co.uk, they have a much more comprehensive range of styles than the average bridal boutique and their reputation for styling advice, is such that they have a waiting list for appointments.

They have an advertised price range from £500 to £5000. They do not want to waste the brides time by showing her gowns outside her budget, so before the appointment, (and amongst other questions) they ask the bride "what price she is not comfortable spending over?" which is not an unreasonable question, given that they are allocating a trained stylist and an hour of company time for free.

They also have a 48hr cancellation policy for bridal appointments. This is to deter brides from failing to show for their appointments, thereby depriving other brides of the booking.

If it was all about the money, they would not be offering free appointments, as it costs Johanna Hehir for every bride they see.

There is no obligation on the bride to purchase a gown from Johanna Hehir, but the stylists at Johanna Hehir feel it is only fair that they are given sufficient information to be able to advise the bride in a professional manner. Unfortunately, a minority of brides fail to appreciate this.
