My barnett blackwidow lasted for a very long time I bought it with the yellow bands on and I used it for a year with no ripps I shot about 600 shot and it did not rip now I bought the red bands. I like the grip of the handle a lot but the only thing I did not like in this slingshot that it has very narrow forks unlike trumark which have very wide forks but overall i loved this slingshot. Do not try the Black Widow with light, small ammo; shots go wild. Accuracy is fair to good with 12mm/.5" steel balls. Standard yellow bands are medium-hard pull, mainly because the pouch isn't sufficiently textured for a good grip. Try the fist-grip shown on YouTube for a much better pull. I would much prefer tapered bands such as Marksman provides, but with the larger pouch of the Barnett. I would also like to see a better style of band-to-pouch attachment, as the existing type allows the... (read more)

Brilliant power, and with a little practice, accuracy. This is supposed to be a budget gadget, but I would say it surpasses it more expensive counterparts, the cobra and diablo. the quality is fantastic and although I've been using it for a month now, the bands are barely worn.It even comes with a foldable arm brace and ammunition. This catapult is a few year old, and still good as new. it is a good price and value for money, I have used this a lot for hunting rats, and kill rate is very good. It is very robust with good build quality, the rubber is of good quality. the plastic grip could be better, but for the price it can be forgiven. Looks good and feels strong, with the wrist strap for support, for pulling the rubber back for power. (read more)

A very well made and quality piece of kit for both pest control and target activities. Price was very fair when considering the parts involved and design/manufacture. I found the instructions clear and concise, I mean, how much instruction do you need for putting a band on a rod? An amazing slingshot. The best I've ever had or made. The bands are very powerful (but not impossible to stretch) It's got a perfect handle with yellow grips. Very powerful, demands lots of practice. Goggles/plastic specs vital. Stay aware of off-target risks - pets/kids/windows. Steel balls, not stones, have greater range, truer flight, increased impact. Stand about 80/90 degrees sideways on to target, look down extended arm, pull back say 20-30 cms, never overstretch. Let fly when on target. Dithering invites 'wobble' and, long term, wrist/arm strain. 'Practice makes perfect'. Avoid songbirds, cats - but rabbits and wood pigeons (official UK... (read more)

I'm reviewing my one from the early 90s. I'm sure they haven't changed much performance wise.
Back then I was in my early teens and over the course of a year bought all the Barnett catapult range, strike 9, BW, Pro Diablo and a few years later the cobra.
While I loved the Pro D it was a pain to carry about. So I bought the BW. Never looked back. It was easy to carry or conceal, in those days parents didn't like the thought of them. It was just as powerful as a Pro or a Cobra, I know...

Another good point is Barnett slingshots have no gimmicks like other brands, like "powerful slingshot!", "200 fps speed!", ect.
How powerful a slingshot isn't determined by the slingshot itself, but the powerbands. Any well-built slingshots can be as powerful with the right rubber band.

I have the new version with those red rubber thingies on the handle. The wrist brace seems to be longer than the old one and the yoke is slightly curved to the left side, I'm not sure if this is a kind of ergonomy. I never have the old version of black widow.
If you want to get the best power and speed for slingshots, you need to use flat bands. Only Saunders recognizes this. Surgical tube is slow. I attach latex flat bands on my black widow and it works excellently.

The barnett black widow is a mighty fine slingshot with a lot of power. The ball barings penetrate a piece of 3 mm plywood at a distance of 10 meters. It's also a very accurate slingshot, so it's fun to hit cans on a distance of 15 to 20 meters. I don't have any experience with hunting mammals and birds, but if i can penetrate a piece of plywood, it will definitly be affective to hunt small mammals and birds. What kind of range would you estimate it can give, say using the .38" steel shot at a 45 degree angle of fire ?
Also, when you pull the sling back, it's easy for a long way, then you come to the end of the easy stretch. Is it safe to strain it past that point for extra range, or is that unwise ?

Using stones is not a particularly good idea. They fly unpredictably and can cause injury. The Cobra is one of the best slings made for extended target use-that is not the intent of the Black Widow. The Black Widow is one of the best pocketable hunting slingshots. Its like comparing a backup defensive pistol like a Walther PPK with a full size target gun like a Glock 34 or a Colt Gold Cup

I decided to right another review considering my first one was rubbish! I recently managed to get a pigeon with the almighty black widow! I've had the Barnett black widow slingshot now for roughly 4 years and the only thing I've had to replace is the rubber. This slingshot is, as it claims, "The original, the best" I wouldn't recommend it to young people unless they are experienced or have an understanding of serious weapons because, to be perfectly honest, the black widow is lethal. I bought one several years ago and it has sat in a box with many others for at least 3 years. Now my son is old enough to shoot slingshots so we set up a range in our archery training building. I shot that Barnett at least 400 times in the last week and those 4-5-6 year old tubing and pouch still works fine. You might have got a bad pair.

The pouches on the current Barnett slingshots are awful though-far far too big. I advocate replacing them with the TRUMARK or SAUNDERS bands-use the lighter pull bands and you will have a winner.

My friend bought the Barnett Black Widow slingshot and I thought it was very good and powerful when I used it. But a short time after the band broke. So we had to take it off and cut the band, but I saw that the plastic part (were the bands go on) had some points and edges. So we sanded it down with fine sandpaper and heated it up a little with a lighter to get the softness. after that it worked fine. So I suggest when you buy this slingshot take the bands off and do the same thing we did. (read more)

My friend has this slingshot and he broke the band the first day... i know why this is happening. At the end were the band goes on, there is a plastic tip, it had some points and shap edges. thats the only bad thing about it, so once you get this slingshot take the band off and smooth it out, if you dont it will break soon. When i put the same band on my marksman it was great and powerful.
