An amazing slingshot. The best I've ever had or made. The bands are very powerful (but not impossible to stretch) It's got a perfect handle with yellow grips. With about a week practice you can hit a can from 10m away! Someone said it can reach 200 fps! 10/10 only £7.50 one of the greatest purchase I've ever made. :)

I first owned a Barnett Black Widow catapult back in the mid 80's and had lots of fun with it until i broke a window (accidentally) and my mum confiscated it :( but for the year or so i had it, it was in use every weekend and pretty much daily in the school holidays and was pretty robust (i was 15 and caring for my toys was not a priority).

A couple of weeks ago while searching for spares for my RC helicopter i found a site selling black widow's well i just had to buy one!

    On first impressio ...

The Barnett Black Widow is a very good catapult. Its very powerful with decent metal bb's. comfortable to use & with a bit of practice very very accurate. build quality very solid, a decent bit of kit !
Bit of a contortion act to get the arm rest seated on the arm.

The Barnett black widow is such a good catapult. Its brilliant, its got really strong elastic and the arm rest is great, it keeps your arm really steady. Its an absolute plesure to use this catapult. There is nothing really bad about it, other than the elastic occasionally flicks you in the hand.

What an inclredible catapault, can put pretty much anything in the leather pouch and it will fire it for many many metres. This will smash glass with a bean in the pouch and i only paid £5.49 for mine so i am defenatly pleased with my catapault.

Very powerful, demands lots of practice. Goggles/plastic specs vital. Stay aware of off-target risks - pets/kids/windows. Steel balls, not stones, have greater range, truer flight, increased impact. Stand about 80/90 degrees sideways on to target, look down extended arm, pull back say 20-30 cms, never overstretch. Let fly when on target. Dithering invites 'wobble' and, long term, wrist/arm strain. 'Practice makes perfect'. Avoid songbirds, cats - but rabbits and wood pigeons (official UK pests) ...

This slingshot is fantastic before I bought this product I would had like to know the rage of the slingshot I would recomend it if you read the the shooting instructions with the slingshot and use some kind of saftey goggles to protect your eyes.

I'm reviewing my one from the early 90s. I'm sure they haven't changed much performance wise.
Back then I was in my early teens and over the course of a year bought all the Barnett catapult range, strike 9, BW, Pro Diablo and a few years later the cobra.
While I loved the Pro D it was a pain to carry about. So I bought the BW. Never looked back. It was easy to carry or conceal, in those days parents didn't like the thought of them. It was just as powerful as a Pro or a Cobra, I know this ...

Another good point is Barnett slingshots have no gimmicks like other brands, like "powerful slingshot!", "200 fps speed!", ect.

How powerful a slingshot isn't determined by the slingshot itself, but the powerbands. Any well-built slingshots can be as powerful with the right rubber band.

I have the new version with those red rubber thingies on the handle. The wrist brace seems to be longer than the old one and the yoke is slightly curved to the left side, I'm not sure if this is a kind of ergonomy. I never have the old version of black widow.

If you want to get the best power and speed for slingshots, you need to use flat bands. Only Saunders recognizes this. Surgical tube is slow. I attach latex flat bands on my black widow and it works excellently.

I brought it for 8 quid and dont regret it one bit, but it could do with a better band on it.
Its alot more powerfull than it looks, its simple to use, its cheap, its safe... for the user that is and its good fun, and its a barnett... now thiers something to brag to your mates about, a barnett slingshot WHAT A TOOL you'l look!!!
The only way of aiming the thing is via looking through the metal points, and because it was made to be an if you like entry level slingshot its pretty basic.

I love it for the fact it is quick and easy to use and also goes miles. I heard there used to be a stronger black rubber band for the black widow. Does anyone know where i can get one?
Thanx to the person that actually helps me lol

The Barnett Black Widow is an awesome slingshot. I found that the bands aren't always strong enough but on the whole its a fun and useful device. I use it a lot and practice shooting at beer cans and I can hit then from a long way off.

The barnett black widow is a mighty fine slingshot with a lot of power. The ball barings penetrate a piece of 3 mm plywood at a distance of 10 meters. It's also a very accurate slingshot, so it's fun to hit cans on a distance of 15 to 20 meters. I don't have any experience with hunting mammals and birds, but if i can penetrate a piece of plywood, it will definitly be affective to hunt small mammals and birds. The impact will give a reasonable shock effect on the animal and probably a certain dea ...
