Good Points: Cala Blanca Hotel is very clean and situated in a quiet location. Staff are polite. Food was a bit "no frills" but there was plenty of it.

    Bad Points: Awful tea !!!!!
archaic toaster only did 4 slices an hour!!

General comments: My wife and I had never been to Menorca before but had seen photos of the beaches so we decided to go to Cala Blanca Hotel for our wedding anniversary.
We decided to go 2nd week in May to avoid too much heat and too many people, both criteria were met, the temp, in the mid 70s and the roads, beaches and spring flowers to ourselves.
We did a bit of shopping around regarding the hotel, car hire, airport transfers prior to choosing what and where, and found the following....
We chose the hotel because it was the cheapest All Inclusive in the area that we fancied as a base.
We opted out of the operators coach transfer and instead booked, via the inter-net mini bus seats from the airport to the hotel direct (no drop-offs en. route!!) This only cost us less than £10 each. The transfer was £30 each and a taxi £35.

The car hire was an eye opener. Do it over the internet, don't book with either the travel operator or the hotel. We spent a bit of time "surfing" and came up with Balearic rentacar.com. They hired us a brand new Fiat Panda for 5 days for 54 euros, most charge double that, even delivered it out of courtesy to the hotel rather than us go to town as was the arrangement. This firm is top drawer! But please, shop around... Oh, and the car is plenty big enough even for 4 people.
This was our first taste of Menorcan hotels so we had nothing to compare this hotel with but we tend to take as find anyway, providing it is clean. The hotel was certainly that. We arrived 1.00am at the hotel due to plane problems, so we didn't see anything proper until daylight, when we were woken by happy chatter below our 3rd floor room...six ladies were mopping the tiled surround to the outdoor pool. A man was hovering the surface of the pool whilst another was arranging the chairs and tables. This was the theme throughout our stay, everything was spotless.

The room was basic, comfortable and clean. The only minus was the lack of a kettle. This could be hired from reception if req.
The hotel location is spot on being in a quiet backwater of Cala Blanca and is set amongst trees. Although the sea was only just visible from the 3rd floor, the beach is only 5 mins. walk past a shop that sells bottled water which is a must. Although safe to drink the local water has a high mineral content so best be safe. All meals are buffet style, simple but quite adequate.( Because we were exploring every day we opted for a packed lunch which consisted of fresh rolls, patte, fruit, little goodies, orange juice and bottled water.)
The only beer available in the hotel bar was San Miguel, but plenty of spirits and sangria but again quite adequate. Due to the early holiday the outside bar was closed but this was no problem as the hotel was only half full so the indoor bar coped easily.
The staff from the cleaners to the receptionists could not have been more helpful, top marks.
Cala Blanca "Down Town" is really one street with a load of eating places and a few shops, nice for a stroll.
The bus stop is right outside the hotel, and for a couple of euros you can go to the old capital, Ciutadella. No, not buses but more like luxury coaches!!
The beach at Cala Blanca is at the end of a small inlet with a couple of resturants either side of the cove, ideal to watch the sun set from.
All in all a good, basic no nonsence, no frills Hotel.
If, like us you have never been to Menorca, go. Words cannot do justice to this wonderful place, its beaches, incredible colour of the sea and the lay back, friendly people.
We could go on and on.
To sum up..The hotel is fine.Menorca is magic.
Do get on the net re. transfers, car hire which is a must.Don't worry about driving on the right,it is a doddle, and can you believe everyone drives nice and slow.
We bought a very useful map(Menorca tour& trail) from www.walking.demon.co.uk which proved invaluable during our exploring.
A word of warning, most of the best beaches are a bit of a walk along stoney tracks so whilst we didn't use stout shoes we used the good quality, rough walking sandles you can readily buy, and take plenty of water in a day sac because this precious commodity is non existant on the walks etc.
Go to this magic island, we go back in late Sept. can't wait!
We hope this info. was of some use to prospective Menorcans!!
