Hhave done 47K Kms in 3.5 years. The Audi A4 3.0 Quattro is a competent work horse with a low excitement factor. 0-100 KPH takes nearly 9 seconds with sluggish initial spurt and it's noisy at low speeds....

I have had my Audi A4 Quattro for a year now, and it is a blast! It goes zero to 60 MPH in 6.6 seconds, and it cruises at 140 MPH nicely.

“Having driven about 25,000 miles over 4 years I've...”

Having driven about 25,000 miles over 4 years I've become very comfortable with my A4 (3.0 Quattro Sport). Its behaviour is predictable and impeccable on all but the bumpiest surfaces. Traction is great, and its ability to pull out of corners is first class. Unfortunately, the Quattro four wheel drive and ESP software are a little bit too risk averse so enjoying understeer is almost always out of the question. Still, the flip side of this is that you have more confidence to push the car towards...

By way of an update, I've got the 993 Turbo brakes, and they have changed the car. There is no whistle, no fade, less erratic pedal travel and more progressive pitch under heavy braking. They weren't cheap, but frankly and in a nutshell, if you like to drive, and you have an A4 (or by all accounts, most VAG models), uprate the brakes but don't get yellow or red calipers. They ruin the respectability of the car.
And finally, I wonder whether (a) anyone reads this page, and (b) anyone has any experience of aftermarket superchargers?

i must say, i'm surprised and not a little gratified to find that people *do* read these kinds of posts.

so i thought i might re-update the review:

i figured out the problem with the electrics: the clever people in the local garage thought the car used 2 pin bulbs instead of 1 pin bulbs (or vice versa, can't remember) but anyway, now that's not happening any more, the electrics are fine.

i asked if anyone knew anything about aftermarket superchargers. i now know what i needed to know, which is that they are expensive, pointless affairs. i spent an embarrassing amount fitting a g3 supercharger that was such a kill-joy (ironically) that i had it removed within 2 weeks.

on the other hand, i do have two recommendations, especially for the other reviewers who were quoting 0-60 in 9-odd seconds: first, try a milltek exhaust. the low and mid range torque gains are incredible. second, use shell optimax. don't know why but it really gets the best out of the engine. my last timed sprint covered 0-60 in 5.8 seconds in less than optimal conditions and i can't think of anything else that'd make the difference.

finally, having found myself in temporary possession of an rs4 last year, i'd also like to revise the last sentence in my original review. no matter how incredible it feels hear a v8 rumble at idle or shriek at 8000 rpm, the amount of attention it attracted wasn't something i was prepared for and i hated it.

i'm an A4 and i invented discreet thrills.
I have now done 16,000 miles in my Audi A4 3.0 Quattro, and 18 months and I am satisfied overall but for small problems. On reversing into my drive I take the car out of gear - it is a manual - yet the reversing lights stay on ( inevitably overnight )and there is no light in the key fob wheras even my Ford Mondeo key has one!...
