Good Points: A Fridge-Freezer with brushed stainless-steel finish. Simple to use, reliable operation, quiet and very energy-efficient.

Bad Points: Too beautiful to use as the house notice-board. (Stainless Steel is not magnetic). You have to bend down to get the milk.

General comments: Siemens KS39V981 - I am a sad person I know. I have spent almost two years looking for a fridge-freezer to replace an ailing Zanussi (which had become an incubator for the e-coli virus). I spent a long time looking at fridge-freezers with the fridge on top (thinking this avoids bending to get the milk). I looked longingly at Smeg, Fisher & Paykel and Miele but could not afford them. Eventually, I saw this fridge on e-bay and put in a successful bid at less than half the MRRP. A new boxed fridge was delivered two days later which transformed my prejudices and transcended all my expectations.

This fridge is just perfect for a family of four. The freezer isn't frost-free but that isn't such a bad thing (frost-free freezers warm up the linings to melt the permafrost, reducing the safe period for 3*** storage), after two months the accumulation of ice is negligible. This fridge is perfect for us in every way, it operates very quietly and has a single control which goes from 1-5 ( turn it up if you want to freeze quickly). Its 700mm width means that it is not too tall and thin for its 1800mm height and has ample storage capacity (even after a big shop in Sainsburys). It has a class 'A' energy rating which means it costs only £26.00 a year to run. Once the temperature is established, the compresor operates only about 5-6 times a day which must prolong the useful life of the device.

This stunning purchase will probably outlive me! I am delighted with the fridge and would recommend it to anyone even at full MRRP.
