Good Points: Interest rate on checking account - no overdraft fees.
Bad Points: Totally misleading advertising and ABSOLUTELY the most unhelpful customer service I've ever experienced when you have a problem.
General comments: ING advertises that there's no problem with overdraft fees. I had a problem with an account where I had set up an automatic payment using my debit card from the ING account. The vendor repeatedly charged my card on days I had not authorized. Because there wasn't funds in the account (which is why I didn't authorize them to charge me then). ING decided to close my account because I had too many attempted charges without sufficient funds....all from this one merchant who was debiting me without my permission.
I had NO advance notice that this was a problem....and they proceeded to keep all of the funds in my account for over two weeks while they waited to transfer to my linked account. I could get NO ONE to return my calls about the matter, and every time I talked to customer service managers, I got nothing but the runaround. I am researching now to find out whom to direct complaints about this....I cannot believe they can legally hold over $500 of my funds, without interest, for over 14 days without my permission or any advance notice that they're going to do so.

I think the amount of complaints about ING Direct's poor rates says it all. I also don't like the way they entice people with their "high interest ISA", only to reveal that the high rate only lasts for the first six months, after which time it drops way below other banks'. ING say this "averages out" to a competitive 6%... so why not just offer 6%? I haven't yet subscribed to my Cash ISA for the current tax year and, having read what I have about ING today, I think I can say for certain that I w ...

I have been banking with ING Direct since January 2004 when I opened a Savings Account with them. I have always used their online banking facilities to manage my account and I have found this service to be perfectly satisfactory. As an existing customer the interest rate I am receiving on my savings is a pretty meagre 5.05% AER. I see that the bank is offering new customers an introductory rate of 6.0% AER (including a 0.95% bonus for 12 months after which time the savings rate reverts to the va ...

It sounds like the people that have had the problems try to use this savings account to pay bills and run it like a regular bank account. I have used ing for awhile and have had no problems however I use it strictly as an investment account. Meaning I just put money in it or transfer it back to my regular checking, that's it, works great. My advice pay your bills through your regular checking then whatever you have let that you can afford to put into your ing account put it in there and leave it ...

ING Direct Internet Banking www.ingdirect.com banking group DOES NOT instill any kind of confidence in me at all.It has taken weeks to get a PIN number from this organization.IT foul-ups caused them to generate hundreds (thousands?) of bad PINsand send them out. Even after all their mix-ups, they still did not get a PIN sent to me upon request, and I had to re-re-request it.I am still awaiting resolution of this simple PIN issue.I have zero confidence in this corporate entity, and I rank them ...

ING Direct Internet Banking Review- The buttons are poorly designed after the initial user number and surname, the buttons to put in the security password as invisible. No matter what I do it still doesn't work. There should be an easier way to fix it. What about having another page or security questions instead of unmemorable numbers. words are better to remember.

Its not that customer service is bad, they are polite. the problem is, if you hickup the wrong way, they throw you on the GRILL and interogate you... My parents are in their 60s. They had both my parents crying because they wouldn't give them access to their own money they had succesfully transfered from netbank to ING. It JUST DIDNT make any sense. I'm writing this as im currently on support hold waiting for a representive to discuss my moms account. I've been on hold for 20 minutes with th ...

The unique thing here is the free wire transfers using Electric Checks. No more writing checks or using Paypal to send people money or expensive wire transfers. Overall have been very pleased without any serious problems.

I can't say enough about how much I enjoy banking with ING Direct. There call center is always open and you get to speak with a person in the matter of seconds. The products they offer are great and are very easy to manage, either over the phone or online. I wish all banks were like ING, There great!

It is far easier to speak to someone in person than deal with their Customer Service staff. I went to the FSA who gave me a contact number for the complaints department, and I ended up back with the same unhelpful person as before.
The complaint came about because ING Direct Internet Banking refunded my money paid into an ISA, which completely wiped out my previous year's tax allowance. They didn't warn me about sending the money back, they just did it. The reason the money was refunded was b ...

Very happy with ING. I just wish they would offer paper checks so that I could completely switch over from my local bank. I don't use paper checks very often, but I'd like to have the option just in case.

I was one of the very first Atlanta area ING Direct savings customers. Their
APY is not tops, but it is still competitive, and my dealings with them have
been most trouble-free.

I love ING Direct. It's got the best savings program that I've found. You earn 4.5% interest on your savings without having to lock up your money in a CD!
It's easy to use, VERY secure and extremely convenient! Customer Service is just a toll free call away, and they have always been friendly and ready to help me resolve any issues I was encountering - which has rarely been the case! I can't say enough good things about this banking system.
Before I discovered ING, I had no clue how ...

I have been with them since August 2005. Besides a regular OSA, I also have a couple of CD's, as well as accounts for my kids. This is a great way to SAVE your money. The whole purpose or ING Direct is to promote savings, so I really don't want it to be too easy for me to transfer money out of the bank. In fact, I treat my savings at ING just like a CD; a very liquid CD.

In my opinion ING Direct (www.ingdirect.com) is one dodgy bank giving direct savings banks a bad name. I received bad advice from telephone agents regarding the transfer of funds into and out of the account. You should be very wary of the customer service agents as they are ever so helpful when transferring money IN and give advice as to various ways in which you can tranfer money out which are ALL un-true when you need to get your money out.

I made a transfer from ING Direct internet banking to my checking account, but they switched the transaction and tried to transfer money from my checking to the ING account. I know they switched it. I needed to put money in my checking account to cover some checks. Then they tried to make me feel dumb. Well, I was dumb. I did not print out the confirmation page, so I do not have proof. My checking account got overdrawn and I had to pay an NSF fee.
I could have made the mistake, yes, but ...

I had great positive experiences with ING Direct. The phone service was excellent when I needed it. Apart from the higher interest rate, I would rate their customer service as a good one.

ING Direct Internet Banking offer a great interest rate!
Unfortunately the customer service and the web application are bad. It took me eight weeks to even open the account due to all the security hoops that had to be jumped through. In the end I had to pay the family solicitor £20 to endorse copies of various documents.
