Good Points: Luxurious hotel, complex was amazing, rooms were very spacious and overlooking the beach.

Bad Points: Hotel could do with upgrading, lots of Germans stay at this hotel and the staff at breakfast are not overly friendly.

General comments: Riviera, Imperial Hotel - We travelled to Bulgaria and stayed in Golden Sands at the imperial hotel in August/September 2004. The resort was fantastic with plenty to do, but arriving so late in the season we suffered with bad storms and showers which meant we were soaked through on several occasions.
Hotel is very nice, although not the type of hotel you would expect for a 5 star hotel in this country. This hotel must have been amazing when it first opened during Bulgaria's time beneath the iron curtain.
The complex Riveria Beach club is fanatastic with its own private beaches, sunbeds and three swimming pools altogether. At the Riveria Beach club there is entertainment all day for the kids. There are ample snack bars within the complex which means you do not have to stray far to get a drink and something to eat.
The hotel is situated on the edge of the resort, but the resort centre is 10 minutes walk away maximum and you step out of the hotel complex straight into a market area where you will find all sorts of bargains.
Shop around a bit for food as we found some places more expensive than others. It's worth eating in the restaurant which is on the corner of the cross roads as you leave the complex (this may be where your welcome meeting is held) as the food is cheap and very good. you will also find typical Bulgarian entertainment here. Be sure to walk right to the other end of the resort as its a nice walk and you can always get the train back.
One last thing, Happy Grill advertised almost everyone is not good service is slow and staff are ignorant. If I was going to Bulgaria again I would definitely go back here and would recommend this hotel to anyone.
