The Porsche 924 is a great place to enter the world of Porsche ownership. They probably cheaper to run and maintain than any other Porsche. Don't expect Ford or Vauxhall prices for parts though. Mines done 170,000 miles and is used daily for a long commute. I get 38mpg on a run and it still pulls well to 120mph or so.

Good points about the Porsche 924 2.5s is 50/50 weight distribution, with good tires it handles like a god. Decently quick off the start, pretty good top speed for a 4 cylinder but again, the handling beats almost anything on the road. Great car for the money. Not the most fun thing to work on, expensive parts (if you get OEM parts), ridiculous labor costs, and hard to find a good Porsche mechanic. If you don't know what you're doing and you have no idea how to work on them, you'll dump more ...

Love to drive this car, and creates so much attention, I think every time I take her out someone asks a question about it. I had a 1984 924 lux about 9 years ago, but with the 2.0 Audi engine, it made all the right noises, but lacked grunt, now I've got a 87 924s, and the 2.5 porsche engine gives great performance (ask the plonker in the 316 compact BMW! ha ha last time he tries to out pull a Porsche!). Only thing is the breaks are useless, and need a good hard push to grind her to a stop, and i ...

For a great drive, get a 924S! The best combination of the 924 and the 944. Makes 911s look really ugly. Mine's now done nearly 176,000 miles and still impressively fast. I bought it about 6 years ago for £1,400, have probably spent £5,000 on it but I drive it every day and do around 1000 miles per month. What a car! Turns more heads than any MX5 could and it's 21 years old!

I drive a 1987 924S. the design for the old 924's is VW but 924S is Porsche. Its a 924 body over a PORSCHE 944 drive train. I love my car. gotta fix up some stuffs like the sunroof and headlight motor and paint but still it gets people's attention in a positive way. I plan to change the body a bit.

I'm a 20 year old trainee electrician and I fancied a cheap sports car that looked good and goes pretty well I started by looking at Toyota mr2's then i fancied a bmw 325i but only found abused high milers so I turned my attention to hot hatches and after driving several Saxo vtr's and MG zr's I realised what a poorly built car they were. So i went on the auto trader and was searching for a sports car again and some how came across a red Porsche 924s. I went and test drove it I loved the car bu ...

My Porsche 928 had been in a minor front-end collision, and was bought by a friend of mine who had intended to restore it. His circumstances changed, so it sat idle under a tree for three years gathering dirt and mould. I took pity on it and took it on as a running restoration project. It took ages to get it clean, but after a new set of tyres, a tiny amount of welding, a new set of engine belts and a few electrical and mechanical parts, it now looks good and runs nicely. The engine feels tough ...

Fantastic timeless classic. Rustproof body and chassis; engine good for 200K miles+, with a bit of care. Fuel consumption not too bad, if you don,t red line it too often! Very easy to drive in town and even makes motorway driving enjoyable. Very cheap insurance (£120 a year fully comp on 1,500 miles per year). Room for 4 (just), but my German Shepherd loves it. Space in the boot for full sets of golf clubs in the bags.

A great car which my wife refers to as her "old banger" but I can't see her parting with it unless something really drastic happens.
As I said, it's very difficult to find an equivalent type of sports car with enough space to comfortably carry a large golf bag and trolley (plus, on occasions, her friend's bag & trolley on the mini back seats).

All in all, it was probably the best buy I ever made (around £18,000 back in '86) and I would bet that there's not many wives out there who have ...

Cant fault the Porsche 924 2.5s. I went from a MK2 Golf GTI to this which is cheaper to insure and faster. It's reliable, keeps up with most modern day hot hatches, stands out from the norm. It has leccy windows PAS leccy roof and can remove it. Has heated leccy mirrors. For a car of this age, good luxury really. Galvanized and ally body so should not really rust. I change the oil every 6,000 miles to keep things going nicely.

Getting old now and very collectable as the Porsche 924S is upgradeable and with modern engine rebuilds for a fairly resonable price. When your 924S is in need of such work 400bhp is available but get the brakes done first.

This review is based on a 1981 Porsche 924 lux Sports Car which I owned from 1988 to 1999. The car was passed on to my father who still drives it today.

History. (Hey, it's not a real Porsche!)
The 924 was never intended to be a Porsche but was meant to be an Audi.
Back in the 70's Audi was an independent company who decided to add a luxury sports coupe to their range of mostly VW sourced salons. Porsche were commissioned to design a modern fuel-efficient sports coupe, which could be ma ...

I've owned my '88 Porsche 924 2.5s sports car with the 2.5L engine for 3 years and 35,000 miles without a problem. This thing is fun & seems bullet-proof. It loves to run all day, is comfortable & gets 33 MPG on the highway. Well engineered & built to last a long time. I would definitely buy another Porsche.

Porsche only ever made the 924 with a 2.0 and a 2.5s engine, I had the 1986 Porsche 924 2.5 'S' for 4 years and it was a fantastic car, if you fancy standing out and making a monkey of Japanese hot hatch's buy one.

Watch the Porsche 924 2.4 litre go, I mean the speed watch a tremendous lack of performannce. I bought my old girl and she was in a complete state which is not very nice is it. But I took her down to the workshop and they made her look as good as new. The handling is excellent and the relibility. the comfort is nice as well and she loves to be run (well mine does!)
    IT IS A GREAT CAR
